The excuse Tails gave was also really dumb "We can't move it without risking the whole island, and we certainly can't lure them here. It's too much of a gamble." Like are you serious? You don't need to move the Master Emerald from the alter to use it, Metal Sonic used it to turn Super and he didn't need to move it. Also Tails makes it sound like the Chaos Emeralds need to be a close to the Master Emerald for it to neutralize them when that has never been the case, or at least it has never been directly stated.

The whole Super Sonic and Chaos Control thing was about dealing with the virus, not necessarily just defeating the deadly six by brute forcing their way. Hence the solution was Silver draining the infection off of everyone with his telekinesis being amplified by the super form and then both him and Sonic supercharge the warp topaz to teleport the virus away. Of course, they could just use chaos control instead of the whole warp topaz thing, but I guess that's why they made sure to mention Shadow was better at using chaos control than they are. Eggman giving metal sonic special treatment ain't that much of an issue prior to Frontiers, since he always brought that robot or some variation of it back in the games(CD, STH2, STH3&K, Adventure, Heroes, Rivals, Forces as examples) so it clearly is one of the creations he's mostly satisfied with the final result. IDW making him show that a bit more while jokingly playing with the idea of Eggman acting as a father figure was fine, but kind of falls flat after Sage was introduced and Eggy acts as if he never felt proud for his creations before. Not really IDW's fault as the comics came first though. And it doesn't fully ruin his development with Sage since with her it seems more genuine. Almost as if IDW showed Eggman has the potential to like something such as Metal Sonic and Frontiers actually went an extra mile with the idea, with Eggman visibly caring for Sage and her safety by the end of the game. But Sonic on the threadmill? Although it's alluded that Eggman made a special version that would be more efficient than simply running(as like mentioned in the video, merely running wasn't supposed to be as efficient as it was early on), it does feel like a cop out to drag the arc a bit more. And Sonic stepping on the grass was most likely just an error between the writing and art department. You're right though, if just stepping on grass was an issue, they should have paid more attention to such detail.

Not sure if I just got the ending spoiled to me, or you're just reiterating the plan they made. I agree, and you're correct though, the plan is larger than just defeating the Deadly Six. I'm trying to pinpoint what you're replying to here, so that's all I have for that one. ===================== I have no problem with Eggman preferring one robot over the other. Especially when discussing how Metal Sonic specifically is Eggman's favorite creation, due to his efficiency and incredible ability to rival, and in some cases exceed, Sonic. and I think that everything in the canon supports the Idea that Metal Sonic is Eggman’s favorite creation. As for Sage in Frontiers, I could have warmed up to the fact that Eggman sees Sage as a daughter, if the incentives and reasonings didn’t fall way too flat. Nothing she does, or can do, would be seen as remarkable to him, or sway him to care about her. A lot of what Sage can do, several robots of Eggmans have already been capable of doing. I go more in depth into what I think of Eggman seeing his creations as his children, and how Sage isn't really any better or worse than any of his other creations in my “Sonic Frontiers Gets This Major Thing Wrong” Video. In regards to Eggman specifically seeing Metal Sonic as his son, that’s the part that I disagree with. Sage has more merit for this to happen as she possesses an actual personality, Metal Sonic, like nearly every other robot of his, is whatever Eggman wants him to be. Especially after he rewired him to not rebel. =============== I’m glad you understand my other two points. I don’t understand the point of bringing up how running is just not gonna cut it anymore, if they’re going to continue making Sonic run as the solution. Sonic stepping on the grass is definitely just an error, but they focus on it so much it was hard to not joke about it. However, every other instance of him running around is highly questionable. Grass falls under the category of things to be infected, and Sonic do be running on grass.

@@kotytang I was mostly reiterating the plan they were formulating lol But of course, I won't deny that they'll attempt to follow through with it. It's only a question of if they'd actually gather the emeralds to acomplish that. And yeah, I don't really think Eggman and Sage's relationship was that well developed, I might check the video you mentioned later to see your thoughts. Btw I don't think Eggman literally sees Metal Sonic as his child or anything like that. Like I said, he's probably saying it in a playful manner since he's it's creator. Future issues on IDW explore even more the idea of how Eggman actually feels about his creations and how he treats them. I won't go into details as it seems you haven't reached that point yet, but as a minor spoiler I can say that regular Eggman doesn't seem as sentimental as he is with Sage.

@@AtomicoMacaco I’d definitely like to see how the IDW team view Eggman and his creations. Now It could be a playful manner, however I much more prefer and think it makes more sense how Sonic Adventure does it. In Gamma’s intro, Eggman tauntingly refers to Beta as Gamma’s big brother since he was the first model, before stating that Beta is much more advanced than him and he won’t be able to compete as well. The idea being that Eggman is instilling a sibling rivalry mentality into the robots, and constantly pits them against eachother throughout the story. But the very first thing Eggman says to Gamma is not that he’s his father, but that he’s his creator and he must obey his every command. He even prepares to throw Beta away before he displays his determination and Eggman reworks him to be better than the rest. The sight of Beta being worked on actually scares Gamma, and shows him how expendable he is. I’ve always enjoyed the idea that Eggman is conniving and manipulative, really sucks that they’ve been dumbing him down to a bumbling cartoon villain over the years. That’s one thing that I appreciate about the IDW series’s Eggman, they don’t give him nearly as many “I’m actually a really dumb guy” moments as the games have been.

Oh most definitely. I will be checking out each of the mini-series as they are presented throughout each saga. I've already covered the Tangle and Whisper Mini-series, and the first annual special just before starting the Metal Virus Saga. Unfortunately Scrapnik Island won't come up until around Issues 50-55, so if you want me to get there, I'll have to cover -Bad Guys and -Imposter Syndrome first. I've heard a lot of good things about Scrapnik Island, but I also heard a lot of good things about the Metal Virus Saga, so only time will tell if it's really that good. I appreciate the kind words, and hope you stick around as I work my way up through the comics!

Odd. Everytime I say I hate the Zeti, everyone in the fanbase tells me they were actually used in the comics in a better way. So I imagine they were included because they wanted to use the Zeti and show they could make them better characters than Lost World did. I suppose clearly IDW haters are gonna disagree with that. But that's the point of being a hater of the otherwise positively-received IDW Sonic comics.

I think your criticism of sonic being so infected is moreso just a nit-pick, because it's meant to be styalised and dramatic. We already know he had a resistance to the virus due to his speed, so i see no real issue here. And for eggmans characteristic of treating metal sonic like a son, eggman threw him out and still treated him like trash all the time (the sonic mania amy animation shows this). The only thing i see as character breaking is how he acts with sage. People would call that character development, but i dont see it as justified at all because these "character developments" we keep getting are out of nowhere and not earned after years of bad games that have no connection to each other.

No, I don't agree that me commenting on Sonic being THAT infected is a nit-pick, it's a very bad decision to draw that, his eye is literally changing colors, and a sliver of his face is visible. This "stylistic dramatic" choice directly contradicts how every other character is consumed and taken over by the virus. Especially when factoring how fast Sonic is supposed to be getting infected at this point, we've seen other characters be taken over in a matter of seconds the more it takes hold. Sonic's speed, specifically when he's running, is what keeps the virus at bay, when he's not moving he's no different than any other character in terms of the virus, this is displayed in not just THAT scene, but every scene before it. Sonic is unable to just stand around, can't even sleep. So no, it's not a nitpick, it was a bad decision by the artists and writers to allow Sonic to look that infected with no side-effects. Classic Era Eggman is pretty much always fine, and there's little to no story to really follow there, they're all at their base personalities, I would never use Classic as an end all point for trying to prove how modern Eggman acts. The character break is if Eggman ever acts like he cares about the robots he makes in a familial way. He's spoken to Metal Sonic in a familial way twice now off the top of my head.

Maybe suspend your disbelief a little? you've gotten the information that he can resist it by running, that already shows he's different from others and he can also hold it back. That's literally what you're defending. ======== Shadow also CAN and COULD do the same thing that Sonic did. Sonic even told him that's how he gets the virus off. Shadow just ignored that in favor of fighting the Zombots.

There is NO establishing shot showing that the base is the shuttle and there is no caption box stating that they're inside the shuttle. The cast literally just appear inside of it the next time we see them, and even the panel that shows Whisper outside of the base show's that the entire thing is embedded into the ground??

Ima be real with you my only real problem with IDW Metal Virus saga was Shadow but thats about it really. Call me easy to please but I like what IDW has done, not gonna say much on it but if you dont like the Metal Virus saga then thats honestly a win in my books cause it does get a lot better after, at least imo.

Eggman is a specialist of making things that could potentially contain Sonic, I mean let's be real, if you're a super genius and your arch nemesis is a hedgehog that can easly break the sound barrier with his speed, then obviously one of the first thing you need to learn is how to make machines that may be powerful enough to contain or at least keep up with his speed. I mean... Eggman found at least multiple ways to extract Chaos Emeralds from Super Sonic form, making something that Sonic can run on that would keep up with his speed shouldn't be a problem. Tails is a genius, right, but let's be real, he lacks the experience that Eggman have. That's why Sonic was able to get of that much of this virus using that metod now, but earlier it didin't work. Then it was just Tails who could help Sonic, now there was also second super genius with even bigger experience than the first one.

As the story progressed Sonic began getting worse and worse to the point that running was barely even helping and should eventually not even work at all. This is confirmed by both Gemerl’s assessment of Sonic’s virus, and Sonic himself struggling to be rid of the virus. The question isn’t “Why do treadmills work for Eggman and not Tails.” The question is “Why does this contradictory event work at all based on statements and observations made by each character.”
