Magnificent music for a magnificent performance by the king! I love the clothes that Lully is wearing, but we can't wear them anymore, right?

FRAGIORGIO1 Yeah that's really a pity. I would love to see a.men dressed like this. Not a carnival costume, no real clothes like Lully's.

This film represents Louis XIV like my fingernail represents me. Louis XIV is a giant of a figure and it is impossible for a film or even a dozen to make sense of him.

Reply to 13gan, four years too late, I'm afraid. A dance does exist for this music, with choreography by Feuillet published about 1700 ( but that is not to say that the dance could not have been devised some time earlier, of course) with the name 'La Pavane des Saisons'. Louis would have been in his sixties then, and Lully was dead. The music is wonderfully stirring, as this extract from Le Roi Danse brings out so well, but the steps are not the same. I suspect that the choreography in the film was specially created for it, using authentic steps of the period. However, La Pavane des Saisons is an excellent dance in its own right, and there are several versions of it on KZbin, taking various degrees of liberty with the original notation. I particularly like the rather zany version where a couple in modern dress emerge from a crowd of visitors to some sort of historical building, perform the dance largely unremarked, and then wander off at the end.

@sgregg5257 I disagree, we see most of Lully's relationship with Louis XIV when he was still a teenager, he becomes more reserved through the years and speaks less, don't you think?

@jubah I know the film is about Lully. But the representation of Louis XIV in this film is fairly flat. I love the film itself and am admirer of Lully's music.
