The diagram represents the map of Danford, which is home to 60,000 inhabitants. It provides us with information about the distribution of housing area as well as the location of the town centre along with the location of the rail tracks. Overall, the Housing Area ( HA) occupies the majority of space in Danford, while town centre(TC) is located in a comparatively small area at around the centre of the map, circumscribed by HA. The Railway (RW) nearly divides the town in half and passes through the TC. As it is evident by the map, the area on the east of the RW comprises mostly of HA with just a bit of TC ground. While most of the TC lies in the west of the RW. The RW runs from south to north of the map roughly bisecting the Danford into two congruent halves. It doesn't cross any of the other boundaries of the map except for south and north.

Thank you, Liz. This is a highly useful video. I really appreciate your excellent work. That said, I hope you don't mind my reminding you that you need a comma after the 'town center', the reason being that it is followed by a non-defining relative clause. Another thing. According to the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary the correct spelling of north-east/ north-west , etc. is with a hyphen.

It's worth mentioning that: #In the north: - “in the north” implies the north part of a large area. Example: Florida is in the south, and Maine is in the north. Both are in the United States. #North of: - “north of” is outside of the area; between the area and the North Pole. Example : Canada is located north of America (or north of the United States, anyway).

"B is located north east of Dartford, which has a population of 60,000" For me, {, which} gives an impression that B has a population of 60,000 not the town. Would it be better to exclude {,} ? I think {, which} refers to the previous sentence.. thank you
@MuaHe-ox7pl9 жыл бұрын
+SeungJu Yoo I have the same idea.
@crgc239 жыл бұрын
+SeungJu Yoo Either way, the relative clause (which has a population of 60,000) still refers to northeast of Dartford. Rule of thumb in relative clauses: The relative clause must follow the head noun immediately. You cannot separate them. Otherwise, it will result in either a dangling or a misplaced modifier.

SeungJu Yoo I thought the same. I am going to avoid complex sentences as much as I can.
