Hi, this is in reply to Rustem Yeshpanov, you are absolutely right. There is a grammar rule that the verb "graduate" should be followed by the preposition "from". However, it is also used these days without the preposition "from", for example "she graduated college". It is a slightly more informal use of the verb, quite common in the US as well as in the UK now. All the best Liz

I have a question regarding the homework given in this video. If it is the other way , means if the question was the statement given and the statement was the question then wouldn't the answer be: Not Given? @@gunelcarayeva5153 Practice different questions types.As far as heading is concerned ,I can say read headings first and try to understand what do they really mean?and then you should read the paragraph,but I would say try to take heading with other questions at the same time.Read as many questions as you can before reading the paragraph,If you want to do answer headings and other questions simultaneously as you read paragraphs. This strategy will save your time. In some heading you may get answers correct by just reading first lines,whereas for others you may need to read the whole paragraph.So, Taking as many questions at the same time should be your strategy. Also,try to increase your topic specific vocabulary.There are around 22 Ielts topics.

Thank you Liz for this amazing video. May I ask a question? Isn’t “allocated” not equal to “used”. Land may be allocated for agriculture but may not necessarily be used for farming. Kindly correct my understanding.

A also thought like you... As, used mean something is beeng used but allocated meaning something is allocated for use..so, all the allocated portions may not used...🤔😪... Suppose, your mother allocate 5 oranges to your 5 members... One Orange is consumed that mean used...other 4 oranges may not consumed...
@elielmurmu5 жыл бұрын
In the passage of your 3rd example, it says 400 acres of land is being used and in the question it says about 400 acres of land is allocated (given or distributed for a particular purpose). In the question its not mentioned that whether the land is being used or not, it could be used or could not be used. In that sense shouldn't the answer be NOT GIVEN?

You're right. In fact, she stole the sentence from a book called Vocabulary for IELTS written by Pauline Cullen and officially published by Cambridge. She then changed the word in the question in the book, which is "used", into "allocated". Ironically, she hasn't been taught what ALLOCATE really means even though she's a native speaker. So, don't follow her advice if you really want to master IELTS Reading skills.

your last example while you had correctly compared the approximation of 400 million and the present tense of the activity, I would like to ask you whether "allocated for" and "is being used for" have the same meaning. I say this because even if the land is allocated for agriculture it does not necessarily mean that in that piece of land agriculture is currently being used for agriculture. Accordingly I was going to say that the information is NOT GIVEN. correct me if I am wrong.

Homework : False , Because the question told us "After the 17th century : It could mean as 18th or above.", in the other hand, the passage told us "Second half of 17th century : It could mean as 1650-1699 still on the 17th century". So it was contrary. and the answer is False
@truongconganhquan46527 жыл бұрын
It is false, found it's way means arrived at something. And like Lowis IcLey said, "after 17th" is different from "second half", that's the key right there.
@sulimanalhaidari29377 жыл бұрын
The answer is "Not Given", because false means the opposite, and the opposite of this statement is "BEFORE 17th century" which is definitely WRONG.
