For those who did not understand what is going on this video, here's a brief explanation: The main loud music really comes from the tesla coil sparks. They are literally playing the music due to the programmed phase, pulse width and firing frequency! So, there are no speakers, no audio / video special effects. It looks even better in person and sounds almost the same, just louder than people expect!
I hope you all enjoy this version I worked for musical tesla coils!

Edison however saw the money in charging for it and got it all set up and patented to make electricity a utility service that you pay for, or go without. All thanks to Edison we pay for our electricity instead of it being free like Tesla wanted.

Strictly speaking, it is possible. There are nuances to the design/approach, though. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJLWoWtuo8emiNk A plasma arc can be modulated to create sound and ultrasound. An electric arc is actually a very good speaker - nearly ideal at higher frequencies in particular. But this isn't what is giving the characteristic "crunch" of these tesla coils. The crunch comes from multiple cycles of a "bolt of lightning" being generated and the shape/size of the toroids plays into how this works. I'm not sure what the audio engineering terms are, but each tesla coil is tuned to produce what would be similar in audio to a saw tooth wave. How long that wave is, is part of the tuning of the coil. How many times you allow that to cycle in a given unit of time would be your modulation, or your tune on that. Unless the waveform is at least 40KHz, it would be hard to modulate through the whole of the audio spectrum and the "crunch" would sound more like a hiss. What I would expect - and I would have to do a bit more research and I would also have to experiment some - is that you would more or less be able to use one tesla coil per string. You might be able to reduce it down to two - or maybe even one depending upon what sound/effect you are looking for - you could just have a giant glowing arc acting as your speaker - but that would not have the thunderous effect. So, in principle, yes - you could create one tesla coil for each musical note at each scale if you really wanted to put on a show. And while you could connect one to an electric guitar and use it as an amp, one that could reflect the full range of the guitar would be beyond what most people have built and would likely require multiple coils or a work of electrical art to make it work in the way you envision - and it might not work for a different effect - IE - many amps or effect pedals and the like can emulate an acoustic guitar or give the guitar a different sound - wave form - etc. ... Although lightning banjo/thunder folk would be amusing as hell.

In theory, you could hook any audio output device (even a Tesla coil array) up to any audio input device (mp3 player, midi, keyboard, whatever). Their software may require certain formats and their hardware may require certain electrical isolations. I think they play pre-recorded stuff because safety factors are involved - too much power draw all at once can trip the breakers or melt the coils, etc, they need a few cooldown moments. It's not a packaged consumer product, lol, very niche so probably all custom hand-built designs. Capabilities will vary. Modifications are possible.

@@Mightylcanis in order to work correctly, a Tesla coil needs a so called top load. There are different types of that, but some work better than others.
