Hey Thanks! I have the Torin 3.5 ton jack…same set up… leaking in the same spot. Everything was so tight that I worried I would break or strip something. After watching your video, I felt better about smacking my tools with a mallet! My seal looked pristine, so I just cleaned everything up real good and put it back together. All fixed! Thanks a million! The only thing I would add is, when you pull the innards out, note how many turns it takes to unscrew them. So when you screw the innards back together, don’t screw them together tight, leave some room for travel so you can open and close the valve. I made that mistake and it took me a few times taking it apart to realize my mistake. (Hopefully that makes sense).

This video helped a lot. My Craftsman jack's handle got stuck and wouldn't turn. I disassembled it and took out the center part. Then I use two wrenches to separate the center part into two pieces. Then put it back as shown in the video and everything worked again.

I hadn't thought to check there, I've been looking all over the pump. I like how you mention regular o-rings from Home Depot. There are 'rebuild kits' for like $60 and a LOT of work, but chances are there is only one failure point...

At 3:06, I would grease that o-ring, the channel and the shaft that turns, use a moly grease. That is a huge wear part, constantly being twisted. You want it well lubed to last a long time.

I have the same jack in the UK, in fact two of them, one made by Halfords and one made by SGS Engineering. I believe it is a common worldwide patent for a 3 ton trolley / floor jack design, and therefore many manufacturers use the same blueprint. This one in the video (the USA version by Craftsmen) is 100% identical to both my 3 ton floor jacks. The SGS version I have has better seals to the Halfords version however, and is assembled in the UK instead of in a Chinese factory commissioned to produce such equipment for Halfords, and therein lies the ONLY differences between them as far as I can tell.

Very nice. I have a very similar Craftsman floor jack. It was in the basement of the house when I moved in, I cleaned it up, spray painted it silver and the thing is a great jack. It just started leaking oil from this seal, also the o-ring where the handle piston goes in. Guess ill buy some new o-rings.

From my similar experience the problem was the ball valve,(ball bearing) under the release valve parts that the video showed. I just cleaned out the recess and put another ball bearing in ; as far as I can see when you screw down ,(turning the handle to the right ) you are pushing the ball bearing valve on to the oil hole at the bottom thereby closing off the flow and allowing the oil to be compressed and push the Jack up. Note that you turn to the right to shut the valve but the valve, due to the two cogs turns to the left . I’ve yet to find a video really explaining this.

I have had 5 hydraulic "trolly" jacks over the decades. From a 3000 to 10,000 pounds lifting capacity. Oh, and another 12 ton (24,000lb) "bottle" jack(purchased at HF for ~$12). In 1989, I purchased a Sears 3ton "trolly" jack, fir $89. It is identical to what you have in this video (except it's painted gray). They all work great. The "cheese-est" two are the type that you find at low-priced /quality chain automotive parts stores. Those two have smaller wheels and casters and the frames are narrow. They leaked from the very first day, but worked. The "professional" jacks, that I purchased a few years later, have beefier frames, wheels and casters. At my father's automobile repair business, are "tradesmen" quality jacks, made by Hein-Warner. They cost a fortune, are large, and heavy. They are rarely used: there are 11 lifts. Two "post" lifts are outside. They are for lifting Winnebagos and commercial trucks. Those commercial trucks (big rigs) and RVs have huge brakes(huge everything). Still the brakes wear out and require inspections. Who wants their brakes to fail, when yir coming down a mountain, with a speedboat on the back (or a heavy load). What is important and distinguishable difference between a $19 jack and a $100 jack is: size, lifting capacity, and widely spread frames and wheels. When you lift a vehicle, they are less likely to tip over.
