Honestly I think it's a problem of the language per say. You can either say you like something or love something. In spanish we have several ways to refer to something we are astonished by or truly enjoy or admire. It goes from: "me gusta", "me encanta", "lo adoro" to "lo amo" the last one being I love it. So it's easier to actually find a word befitting the way you actually feel towards someone or something. Which is why oftentimes spanish speakers are baffled by the relationships of English speakers as they cannot actually escalate in feeling and finding"I like you" to be insufficient to demonstrate the level of affection they feel before they are ready to say "I love you"
