Thank you for addressing the fact that guns are inanimate objects that ppl w poor decision making skills use to deal w problems that 100% could be delt with in literally any other way. And that the real problem is... They need better coping skills and just overall they need morals! You don't have to read this part but... There was a shooting 2 wks ago at my apartment complex in the building right behind me. And I live in the "nice" part of town. Now I'm not one of those people who say it can't happen here because that's stupid and anything can happen anywhere but I was a little surprised... Until I found out what happened. So after observing the police put up yellow tape and watching a woman walk around talking to a police officer pointing at various places around the buildings I compared what I saw with what I later found on the news. Turns out a felon, he's not allowed to own a weapon, got out of jail that day or recently, nobody's quite figured that part out yet or hadn't at that time, had a friend take him to a gun store, friend bought a gun and then gave the felon the gun then drove him here so he could shoot someone then he dumped the gun and took off on foot. Then came back the next day to get it. The police came, investigated, watch the video at the gun store and the next day brought in the friend. Friend immediately through felon under the bus confessed everything including picking up felon, driving felon to the store, buying gun, giving gun to felon and driving felon to the apartment complex. While police were interviewing friend the next day, felon was arrested as he was observed outside sitting in the car! That alone is deserving of an arrest. Turns out that felon had been planning to come and shoot someone the entire time he had been in jail. Most peer-to-peer shootings are between people who know each other and are very rarely random and that's why I was not afraid at all. We have a lot of great laws in place in the state of Indiana including some new ones but this did not stop a felon from obtaining a gun and transportation and committing a crime. However several poor decisions with the aid of someone else who also made poor decisions were major factors in the shooting. One person was shot, not seriously injured. And no children were hurt which is amazing because that's one of the good things about the location of this apartment complex is that there's children everywhere and in the nearby neighborhoods. Mass shootings are premeditated in the minds of people that find certain behaviors acceptable. "Laws that aren't strong enough" don't cause mass shootings therefore "stricter laws" won't prevent them. Bringing back morals, getting rid of this stupid self entitlement and understanding that not one single person has the right to decide whether another person lives or dies is not acceptable behavior. MAKE BETTER CHOICES PPL 👊
@sherb98412 жыл бұрын
If there had been a mandatory waiting period, or an interview with the friend by an officer about why he wanted the gun (mandatory in some countries), the friend may have gotten spooked and changed his mind. ‘Better morals’ give me an effing break. We are rather poorly evolved primates and violence is in our dna - because under the right circumstances violence is an adaptive and useful trait. The problem is that we are at a point in society where our predisposition for violence is now more harmful than helpful. Only option is to limit the tools available that will allow us to hurt each other. Or put drastically more dollars into funding public mental health but this country will never do that.
@michaelduran9262 жыл бұрын
@@sherb9841 guns save millions of lives a year compared to the thousand of deaths caused by guns and it’s far lower when you take into account most are suicide and gang violence. Don’t let the few psychopaths stop you from being able to defend yourself.

True. A close friend of mine carried for decades. He was mugged twice and once punched by a raging drunk. He has intervened and chilled down innumerable tense sitations and arguments. He never once drew his weapon; he believed that none of the situations warranted deadly force. edit: He and his wife both check places for exits in case of mayhem or emergency. At first I thought they were a bit paranoid, but in time it just turned out to be pragmatism. We once went to an art showing/party at an Oakland warehouse/artists' co-op but after a quick tour we noped out. A year or two later Ghost Ship, another art co-op, caught fire, killing many.
