That Survivor Series 90 team, 'the Warriors', was because Tornado was formally 'the Modern Day Warrior', and the Legion of Doom were formally 'the Road Warriors' and then Hellwig was the 'Dingo/Ultimate Warrior'. So they were literally the Warriors!

At least Macho Man's Retirement loss against The Ultimate Warrior gave us one of the most memorable reunions of all time between him and Miss Elizabeth. How can you NOT get misty eyed seeing Miss Elizabeth come to the aid of Macho Man, tossing an irate Sensational Sherri out of the ring, Elizabeth tearfully pleading with him while he was incredibly dazed and defensive, then finally the two of them embrace and he lifts her on his shoulders to Pomp and Circumstance. I'm choked up already typing this description.

If my memory serves, when you watch the entryway for #18, there's a little flutter of orange cloth that sticks out of the curtain before disappearing back into it. I'm 99% certain that was the Warrior grabbing Savage by the scruff of the neck and yanking him back for a beat-down.

Perfect was slated to win the 1990 rumble. However, a few hours before the Rumble, Hogan politicted his way into winning it instead. Made no sense as Hogan was champion at the time and winning was more of an accolade. Hogan was at the top, winning that rumble did nothing for him. Perfect winning would have given him an even bigger push. Sad we didn't get to see it.

I still remember watching Earthquake's TV debut. He wasn't a wrestler. Dino Bravo was doing some bit about how strong he was and had some kind of competition with the Ultimate Warrior. They were going to do pushups with some 'random' audience member sitting on their back. They pick Earthquake, Dino Bravo does his pushups. Now it's Warrior's turn. Earthquake squashes Warrior. I was laughing so hard because Jesse Ventura's doing commentary. Earthquake proceeds to earthquake Warrior a couple of times if I remember right.🤣

But as this video suggested, had Hulk Hogan won this match not only to repeat history but to redeem himself of losing in the last rumble during this season then Ricky Tortellini would ‘quit’ KZbin (I’ve never been a fan of this manner of getting views). Fortunately, that was not the case as this series would demonstrate that you can never truly imagine just who will win this rumble. As a matter of fact, the final moments of this match featured some of the most unique finalists that we’d never imagine would stand a chance at winning this event. When it was all said and done, yet another powerhouse would secure the victory and stomp his way into the champion’s finale… Earthquake… the big man from Canada… just how would his career have been different had he won this rumble? During the actual event, Earthquake was the runner-up when he lost to Hulk Hogan and that loss made it possible for Hogan to become the first man to win the rumble twice. The following event, when WrestleMania VII took place, the most Earthquake had to offer was a three-minute fight with Greg Valentine in which there was never any doubt that the big man would win. Had it have been Earthquake challenging Sgt. Slaughter for the championship, one would expect to root for Slaughter but at the time he was a heel competitor. This would have been a rare instance for Earthquake to win a singles title as he was mainly known for his tag title run with Typhoon, the eventual identity of Tugboat, but the most we can expect of Earthquake now is prove himself a powerful adversary in the season finale. But who was my MVP of the 1991 Rumble? Let’s get down to the numbers: Of the thirty competitors featured in this match, EIGHTEEN competitors secured the most eliminations (Three stars HIGHER over the average half). The highest count reached up to ‘4’ eliminations, which is three points higher than the average ‘1’ elimination. I give the Golden MVP award for ‘coolest’ performance to… The winner of this rendition of the 1991 rumble… Earthquake. From the actual event’s runner-up to the winner of this event, this was a significant boost for the late John Tenta, who would eventually pass away after a losing fight against bladder cancer in 2006 (Fifteen years after this match). There was no doubt that this big man was a star, even if he didn’t have the best career during the WCW and later WWF years. There’s a reason still why Earthquake remains popular amongst fans whether in his home country or to wherever he took his skills. This was a man who had a promising start in his sumo career and now we hope he has a promising run in the season finale. The nominees for the Dull Participation Medal for the ‘lamest’ performance are: Bushwhacker Butch… and Hercules… While it is no secret that neither of these men would win this rumble, and while there was no chance for a Bushwhacker to win this event (Though surprisingly before Luke, who made it to the Top Three in this run), I have to give the medal to… Hercules. Why him? Not the one who was eliminated first? Because in the last rumble on this channel, Hercules ‘won’ that event to secure a place in the finals… only to lose in the following rumble? That would almost lead fans to assume that Hercules’ previous accomplishment was a fluke, that someone else should’ve won that event. Whatever the case may be, it does not put Hercules in a positive light as this season continues. Topping the very foundation that is the Royal Rumble Participants, Earthquake will be stomping his way to potentially the biggest win of this channel should he succeed in winning the finale. In the meantime, we ask the following questions: Who do you believe should’ve won this rumble? Would Ricky J. really have ‘quit’ the channel had Hogan won? Even in defeat, could this truly have been Randy Savage’s best effort had he entered the match? But the biggest question of them all: Who’s next?

But but those mid 80s and early 90s days were great! We had to wait forever for main events and it just made it much more believable. My friends and I lived in Romulus Michigan which is right by the airport. We would have sleep overs and all sneak out on our bikes to a strip bar down the road called the landing strip when we knew their was an event. And like clock work they would all show up at midnight and find 5 12 year old kids waiting for them. They would all show up. Great times.

Just sharing with you an explanation about Demolition. Ax, aka Bill Eadie, had a fatal allergic reaction to shellfish that almost killed him just before WrestleMania VI. So Vince started working out a plan to phase Ax out of the team and introduced a new talent named Brian Adams, and dubbed him Crush. They ran with Demolition being a three member team for awhile. The plan was for it to be Smash and Crush, and Ax becomes a behind the scenes employee to work his way to being a road agent (something that didn’t work out but that is another story) . What didn’t help was that Vince signed the Road Warriors, and because Crush was not a seasoned wreslter like Ax and Smash, Demolition just lost traction with the fans. So Vince retired the team by having wrestlers on loan from SWS of Japan bury them at WrestleMania VII.

Hey Ricky j I'm a big fan of your channel and and all of your content. I love what you been doing with the WWE Royal rumbles lately. As a suggestion could you do a Royal rumble with all of Undertaker's WrestleMania opponents. Now because he only has 27 wrestlemania matches with some of them being repeat opponents I'm thinking you can have three different versions of triple h come out, two different versions of Shawn Michaels and two versions of Kane. Undertaker should come out as number one but because it's a 30 man Royal rumble with 27 WrestleMania opponents we can include three different versions of undertaker within the Royal rumble lol classic mortician undertaker, big evil undertaker and my favorite phenom undertaker. Tell me what your thoughts I had a great time thinking of this idea and hopefully I trust you to put it to good use. Keep up the good work, love ya bro and stay safe.

This is probably my least favorite of the early Rumbles. Something just feels “off” about it. And even though I love Hulk Hogan, having him win seemed anticlimactic.

Fun times Ricky! I think you missed knobs hitting earthquake with brass knuckles prior to his throwing bushwhacker Luke out Also with all this talk of Mount Rushmore’s of wrestling, why not put your 4 in a 4 way match and let the game decide? You can also take listeners 4 and do the same. Oh, btw, macho never does well because you are rooting for him. The curse is real

Warlord had to change his aesthetic because Vince brought in LOD and Powers of Pain were essentially LOD ripoffs. No point having Hawk and Warlord with the same hair/make-up gimmick so shaved head/half mask/W staff was the call

Knobs & Earthquake were in the final 3 of the actual 91 Rumble…(with Hogan)
@robertanderson2898 Жыл бұрын
Heh, it's kinda cool that Knobbs and Quake were the final 2. In the actual Rumble that year they were 2 of the final 3 remaining, along with Hogan (I guess Luke was Hogan)? LOL.

Yeh Macho King Randy Savage was due to come out as entery number #18 but the story was on the night after what happened in the title match the Warrior run him out of the building but....as you mentioned he might of been injured but he was meant to be in it that year would of been interesting to see if he'd been in it how long he would of lasted in the match!

I watched the 91 and 93 royal rumbles literally hundreds of times when I was a kid. They were the only vhs tapes I had. I still have them, actually. They sit with my complete Hasbro figure collection that I kept under my bed for 30 years. I sure am glad I saved those and my gi joes. It’s not weird for a 37 year old man to still have toy room. My 2 year old son has one. Why shouldn’t I?

The Macho King Randy Savage/Ultimate Warrior Rumble 91 story.. Either at the Rumble or on TV just before, I forget which. Warrior was being interviewed when Sensational Queen Sherri interrupted the interview to request a WWF World title match for The Macho King Randy Savage. Queen Sherri attempted to use her feminine charm to persuade Warrior but it backfired and Warrior refused. This angered the Macho King leading to him interfering in the Warrior/Slaughter match hitting Warrior with his scepter, costing Warrior the match and the world title. It had also either been implied or said by Slaughter, storyline wise, that he would give The Macho King the first shot at the World title if Slaughter won. Upon losing the world title, Warrior stormed from the ring giving chase after the Macho King and chasing him out of the building. Which is why the Macho King didn't enter the Royal Rumble.
