I love this so much. It’s one of the only tracks by Zs I know but every once in a while it’s a blast, especially the last section. Always reminded me of Indiscipline by King Crimson for some reason, maybe it’s the red cover or the odd lyrics idk

I cant believe how underrated you are. I just found you through the Wildlife album reaction and watched the full 4 hours over the last 4 days. Your reviews are awesome bro

I think it's more "unknown" than "underrated"... and most people don't want 4 hours of detailed discussion about the music, they want to see someone make idiotic faces and comments like "Bro, this is dope!"...

"the ways that I've spoken about it are not ways I think I've spoken about any music"... wow! very happy to have brought you such a challenge. Zs' stuff was all about exploring exact repetition, extreme precision, unison, monody, etc in really confrontational and alien ways. i had the same reaction at first listen and then it just kept drillin into me. would love to give you an Extra Life track in the future that explores some of Looker's current fascinations like his obsession with vocal melisma... very peculiar music thinker. thanks for thinking about this so hard Bryan! p.s. i have sent you the lyrics. after a decade plus of knowing this piece, i found them......30 minutes ago. my apologies

to answer another question: they were a double trio at this time, so it is 2 guitarists (both singing), 2 tenor saxes, and 2 drum kits

"exploring exact repetition, extreme precision, unison, monody, etc in really confrontational and alien ways" That's a perfect way of explaining this. It's all quite technical and I can't imagine how many hours of practice went into creating such a perfectly timed performance like this but it's also beyond unconventional. It's one of those things where I love the skill on display but have no idea what's happening.

@@seanglover481 can you post the lyrics? I think this is some of the only avant-garde leaning music that I can say I actually could listen to regularly.

Ooo Zs! I absolutely love their album New Slaves. Might be my favorite album from 2010 but that year in particular has many many contenders

I think you'll be a much bigger fan of the main composer's (Charlie Looker) other project, Extra Life, in particular their reunion album Secular Music Vol 2 that dropped a couple years back, a lot more accessible while still being interesting and avant garde He also has a great KZbin channel I'd highly recommend, interviews a lot of artists, some of which you've reacted to on this channel, as well as other KZbinrs

This gives me Cardiacs vibes but with less chord progression. I don't mean that in a bad way though

Given your detail, perhaps the host required a little more credit on reflection. Before the analysis i agreed, but after i though you would cut him a little slack

Brookliners aside... this is not too bad. Just a little to farty to be really enjoyable to listen to (the hard thing is not to make complicated music, it's to manage to keep it from going overboard and becoming an intellectual exercise that's not fun to listen to).

I take weekly themed requests from Patreons and anyone can buy a guaranteed request, called a Special Selection. Links to proceed with either of these can be found in the Linktree link in the description of any video. I do take general comment requests, like this one, but I can give no guarantee of when I'll get to it.
