Ross Hi, how are you? I have 2 Violet de Bordeaux and 1 Mitchurinsca-10 in my garden. Non of them have produce anything because the violet I bought it 10-11 months ago but it’s 110cm and the M10 is only 20cm. I follow you all the time and I learn a lot from you. Many Thanks mate. By the way next month I will go on holiday for 10 days where a man has 3000 fig trees there, and 1834 different types of figs. I will go there and see if I can get some cuttings. All the Col de dame types he has them. 😊

@rossraddi if you wanted to add one honey or sugar fig to the mix what would be a similar top 3, based on the same criteria. Between the two types you could have a balanced, diverse, and long cropping collection. Challenge - put together the mix and match early -late, humid, winter hardy, and tasty variety set of four cultivars. You’re almost there!

There's only 3 figs period that check all of the boxes.

Hey Ross, I'm wondering what are your top 3 for central Arkansas, zone 8a (7b last year) that are great tasting. My first thought to add to my collection is Smith if you'd agree with that. Might help to know that based off of your videos mostly, I've bought and have growing nicely Madeira KK, I 258, Adriatic JH, Kadota, Black Mission, Chicago Hardy, Violette de Bardeaux, and LSU Purple. Also, which of mine (and your suggestions) would grow in the ground here?
@g3nizzl32 ай бұрын
Smith is a great choice.
@RossRaddi2 ай бұрын
Right now Campaniere and teramo are producing the highest quality the most consistently here. The same would happen for you. I would one of the figs mentioned in the video and a late fig like the Coll de Damas.
@RossRaddi2 ай бұрын
Smith is excellent, but I would choose green M over it if I could only have one fig. You could also try littmans instead of CDD. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more 3 varieties seems like an impossible task.

Yeah VDB was my best fig in terms if taste. Will make many copies of it, got a green michurinska that i cloned into 2. Was thinking selling one but ima keep both in 7 gal for trial. I have also smith that i will clone.

Is green mich earlier than vdb? I love vdb but it’s a little late for me in zone 5. Black celeste has been best tasting early fig for me but haven’t tried mdc yet.

Probably about the same.

I just grow what grows well in my yard. No point in trying to grow something that will fail. It has to work in my climate.

Good morning Ross! I have two Chicago Hardy trees in pots. They started producing fruit about a month ago. I’m in Connecticut. I’m going to keep them in pots. Do you think the fruit will make it to maturity? It’s pretty mild here still.

Approximately 90 days from tiny figlet to ripe fig is a general time frame.
@robgriffin48012 ай бұрын
I'm in RI with the same situation. One tree set 2.5 months ago and I've been harvesting for a week or so, the other set 1.5 months ago and still waiting there. First harvest for me, with the oldest tree in its 3rd year. The transition from small green fig to ripe happens quickly, was surprising.
@RossRaddi2 ай бұрын
They need 90 days roughly from pea size.

My squirrels beat me to the figs in my pot this year. 1st year it (Chicago hardy) gave me ( or rather the squirrels) fruit ( zone used to be 6b, upgraded (theoretically to 7)
