You picked the right boat. Sirius an incredible great use of space and setup, and I love the centre cabin. Love the southerly especially the interior design, so bored with dark woods. But the Garcia exploration 52 the best world cruiser and I would spec the ocean volt saildrive, diesels are just a pain.

The new Moody design looks incredible compared to the old 30 foot Moody we had growing up. Love the raised deck salon and the wrap around bulwark... but don't you think it strange there are no drainage ports alongside - I mean, what happens when you take one over the bow? Looks like you would get a deluge of water channeled straight back to the cockpit ...and those moldings wrap right around the helm stations don't they? Maybe I'm not seeing something. I do like the white interior paneling on some of these modern boats. it creates a nice bright open feel to the living space.

I have to say .... after being at the Annapolis Sailboat Shows in Maryland and visiting many of the "production" type boats there, with a few exceptions to that rule .... the boats you've shown at this show are light years ahead in design! I'm sure that comes with a price .... but just beautiful!

That’s pretty much the list of my favorite boats! Awesome. I saw the Moody 54 at Annapolis last month. Insane. Honestly not sure I can handle that much boat, but I could probably figure it out lol. I even wrote to Moody if they can do an ICW friendly version of the 45, which they can of course for a *small* fee haha. But then it wouldn’t sail the same.

You should spoil yourself with it one time! It´s the biggest boat show in the world for new gear and boats but for sure for sailing yachts. Its held every 3rd week of January in Düsseldorf. About 2.000 exhinbitors, 105.000m² in 17 indoor halls, 250.000 visitors from 118 countries. Hope to see you there once!

As a 72 year old US Merchant Mariner, having started sailing at the age of 3, this episode (Boat Show) makes me feel old. The hull design's have changed drastically in the last 10 years, with the beam ratio to LWL increasing, flat sections to the stern, etc.. Interior's are unrecognizable in comparison to what I'm accustomed to, twin rudders, retractable keels, etc.. Even the waterline bow being dramatically extended forward, forward raking stem, etc.. Standard practice of displacement type full keels are lost. Educational design concepts with this video makes me feel frightened to sail again. Jim Antrim, a San Francisco Naval Architect and close childhood friend has been telling me for 20 years, things have changed afloat and this episode has brought this home.

There is a very good video of the Garcia Explorer by an owner who covers many more features. Apart from the major features it is little things such a suction vent high up to draw moisture from ceiling height in the main living area. I know, though, that I would love to see your and Marlin’s shallow draft Garcia adventures, that would be an education. Expected winds in Stellendam today peaking 67 knots. We’re getting the full sailing experience without leaving the dock.

Thank you very much! It´s my favorite too! I personally can´t imagine a better concept than a deck saloon for living on board, blue water cruising and extended cruises... as it adds not only so much comfort, but also so much safety for a small crew or single hand sailing. Than it`s a surprisingly big boat for 35 feet! Usually compares to 40to 41 feet yachts in terms of internal space and roomy feeling do to double use of space in the widest section. Thanks to the raised settee, we do not only get the great 360° all-round view, but also the space for a very spacious master cabin and the practical technical room at the very same position. The pantry gains the large floor compartments with an unbelievable amount of storage space... and whoever is cooking, is still able to look out of the window and/or steer the yacht at the same time. sad how most of those interiors and designs say "hotel near the coast in good weather only" and don't address security issues like those sharp modern edges, nice touch panels for the electric that no one can replace on the run if lightning were to toast it, virtually no point to hold on to or have big open spaces so you can fall through the whole boat in harsh conditions. The Gracia is one of the few on that show which felt like it is a serious traveler and learned from past issues and seems to be build with redundancy and repairability in mind so you can actually sail save even if you face harsher conditions.

I'd absolutely love to see a Sirius 45-48. I think they could run away with it in that range. Incredibly solid build and ingenious design solutions. And the Garcia 45/52 is stunning in every way.

I´d love a Sirius 48 DS as well, please :-), but if we believe the many testing magazines she already offers the equivalent interior space of a 47-48. But honestly, there will be a larger Sirius once...but we do struggle to understand where you will need more space. She already features 3 spacious double staterooms, two heads and the workshop. Apart from waterline length for more hull speed we are still searching for additional rectifications for going bigger. Maybe a dingy garage instead of the davits? … or three instead of 2 of the 3 cabins big enough to be master cabins? …more ideas anybody???

@@SiriusYachts Even a 45 would be enough. At 6'3" and about 100 kilos, I think I want a bit more elbow room, storage in the cabins, and a bit more cold/freezer storage. The galley seems a little tight to me. I absolutely cannot deny, though, the ingenious use of space in the 40.

@@pnwesty7174 yes, I can see this. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. At times I could top you weight ;-) but am only 6`1". But there should not be a problem as the saloon area is more than 7" and below areas could be 6`8" and more. (we even raise the floors in the below areas artificially as this looks not right for average tall people. Moving with 3 people around the galley might feel a bit tight but very safe in a seaway. There is 130l + 50l cooling and freezing storage already but if your are of sailing does not keep the bottom storages cold enough any of them could be converted to a freezer or fridge box. Some customers on our smaller boats decide on a car trunk freezer as a seat in the work shop. A bigger Sirius would generate more of all of this naturally but I am still searching for additional functions and rectifications…

Some wonderful vessels there, I went on board the moody at Southampton, an amazing yacht! The rep said they were taking orders from catamaran owners and motor boat owners too, bit out of my price range but the decks gave you a fantastic sense of security, great to see everything, I think we have similar tastes in yachts :-)

The Garcia is a nice choice. It’s still very tight in the technical spaces, but the hull and Globe trotting features of the boat are unparalleled in a boat this size and sail away cost. Tip: unless you like the burn, eat really spicy food with a generous dollop of rice or other heavily starchy foods.

If price was no object, I would probably want a "J" boat but to be realistic, S.V. Delos has me sold on Amel ! For me there is a tie between Aluminum and Wood for a hull - Glass is out. I think I would lean toward Beneteau or HR as possible alternative to Amel. I can't be happy with any sailboat that can get up 10 knots so if I must give up some comfort or appearance I'm willing. It's tough to go thru life after your first, childhood, sailing experience of 5 years was on a 1911 Herreshoff 59' sloop that I personally saw the 12 Knot Kenyon Gage pinned on multiple occasions. sdh in CT, USA

Johan, great review of all of the boats. I liked that you gave a thumbs up to the Discovery 48 for it's innovation. It's a very good cruising boat. I liked your review of the two Sirius boats. I particularly like the design of the Sirius 40 which offers a tremendous amount of boat and comfort for it's size but if you have seen the companies video of how it handles with it's unique flexible helm and how easy it is to manoeuvre in tight spaces it is a exceptional boat for it's size and also well-suited for northern climates where you need to get out of the weather. It is definitely one of my favourites and one of the most affordable boats on the market. It's too bad you didn't get a chance to look at the OVNI or the Alubat line of boats. And last but not least the Garcia 52 is one of the best designed, bullet-proof, blue-water boats on the market. At the same time I recently saw a review of the Fountaine Pajot SABA 50 catamaran which is a very comfortable, highly stable, high-speed cat. Compared with monohulls it is a great alternative in my opinion. Heeling over while underway is not that comfortable.

yes, the Garcia ist fantastic. I can not understand why other blue water cruisers aren't designed like this. For example, they have often huge Diesel generators on board but no solar panels or a wind generator.

James Miller . Hi James. Without doubt, all of the Hallberg-Rassys are gorgeous and sail beautifully. I almost bought one for those reasons. However, I would not want to hit a whale, growler, log, sunfish, rock, bombie, or most of all a container, with one. Re the Garcia, there’s so much to be said for strong, welded aluminium hull construction and full-height, watertight bulkheads at the front and rear. Then there’s the welded through-hulls with valves above the water line. And have you seen the companionway doors on the Garcias? There’s so much more. The Garcia 45 gets my vote. In fact it did! They’ve started building one for me. 🙂

When Sirrus gets serious and build a longer boat, then that is one of my favorite boat. I like this boat, I only wish they went a bit longer, but I love the work shop area and living in the deck salon. The Moody is another favorite of mine, because of the deck salon again. I wish Sirrus would make one in this size, I can only image how invented they would be. The Garcia is the king of aluminum boats no doubt. From what I have view on KZbin from other channels, there is to much there, 17 buildings, is just to much for one tour.

I´d love a Sirius 48 DS as well, please :-), but if we believe the many testing magazines she already offers the equivalent interior space of a 47-48. But honestly, there will be a larger Sirius once...but we do struggle to understand where you will need more space. She already features 3 spacious double staterooms, two heads and the workshop. Apart from waterline length for more hull speed we are still searching for additional rectifications for going bigger. Maybe a dingy garage instead of the davits? … or three instead of 2 of the 3 cabins big enough to be master cabins? …more ideas anybody???

@@SiriusYachts The 40DS is a great use of space! Very impressive design. Love the mid-ship master cabin option. Really no reason to go longer unless one is looking for a little extra hull speed or just has money to burn. I'm a fan! Well done.

I would really like a Garcia to cruise around all the world and not just the warmer places. Maybe someday I will get a chance to. I also like the use of space in the Sirius and Moody boats. But there is one potential problem about the Moody which is their doors into the salon. Those doors remind me of catamaran doors (which is probably the idea they are going for) which makes me think if they are sturdy enough to be watertight if in the event of capsizing. Otherwise I really like the Moody boats, but maybe a 54 footer is a little bit too big for me. I would go for a smaller model if there would be no issue with the doors. Anyways I will keep saving up for my Garcia....
