What works individually is key. One example: when I was a TA in graduate school, I had to do help sessions for Intro Genetics. So a student asked my for help, I looked at her problem, and then explained it as you'd find it in a text book. She just stared at me. So there is another way to think of it, and I explained it that way. She just stared at me. So I tried explaining by analogy, told a story, and I could see it click in her eyes. Great! Then she gave me a look like "Why didn't you just say so, idiot?" I was trying so hard, it was all perfectly clear to me, but she needed three different approaches before she got it. These things happen - kids come from different places, and sometimes you can't just follow the book that works for the majority.

I’m so glad I found you. I pulled my daughter out of 7th grade (public school) about a month ago. My Amazon cart is now endlessly filled with books. I can’t stop searching the web! I’m not purchasing anything else until I receive my first order from Generations. I pieced together an 8th grade curriculum based on one of your “favorites” reviews. Thank you.

I am with you on abeka phonics. We used it for our oldest in kindergarten and she is a fantastic reader and going to use it for my son who is going to be kindergarten next year

We have 4 children 14, 12, 7 and 3 year olds. We’re starting our homeschool journey soon with our 2 youngest. The oldest does not want to be homeschooled. Praying that changes though. I’m so nervous about this change for us although I know it’s the best. I love your videos and we’re just unsure which curriculum yet. It’s so overwhelming.

I get it, I've been there too. It gets easier the longer you homeschool and find what works for you. You'll get to a point where it will be easy, because you know what works. Keep praying the Lord will lead you to the right resources.

I agree! Abeka phonics is the best. It makes sense.

I agree with all of this except for the math - I like teaching it myself. My kids both had Abeka for the first few years and they are both good readers and do well academically. We are loving Generations too. And we did 18 read-a-louds this year!

Honestly the biggest thing I would have changed is that when covid shut down the schools, I would have started homeschooling then when my oldest was just starting kindergarten

With Abeka’s phonics, would you suggest all the flashcards and games they have? It seems like so much.
@mandy-maltz7 ай бұрын
We used them and I think it really helped my kiddo. We used them over several years of Abeka phonics, so it wasn't as much of a burden that way. My kiddo loved the games and the flashcards were really helpful.

I don’t do the games and the flashcards and it works for us. I just do the books and the charts to focus on the sounds.

What about Abeka Phonics vs generations phonics?
@mandy-maltz7 ай бұрын
I’ve never used Generations phonics to compare, sorry!

Oh he could take a college math with dual enrollment. Or taking financial math classes works too if he runs out of things to do!

We're going to talk to his liaison about that this summer :)

I would love your thoughts !! My kiddo going into grade 1 has ASD, but she is motivated to read. I feel Abeka would be too fast pace for her, in this case, would you recommend all about reading or any other curriculum choice to teach her to read?

What would you recommend to use for 3rd grade grammar, writing, and science? It doesn't seem generations includes that or does it?
@mandy-maltz7 ай бұрын
I use IEW for grammar and writing, and Generations has science. Science referral link: bymandymaltz.com/generationsscience IEW free downloads referral: iew.com/MandyMaltz
