Michael, I remember once seeing a picture of McCartney with a capo on his bass. Do you think that could explain the “boomy A string”? As in he had his Rick capoed at the fifth fret and was hitting the “open” E string? Just a theory. Anyway, the cover sounds great! Always impressed with your drumming.
@AcumbaWumba2 жыл бұрын
The picture was from the Michelle session I believe, which makes sense since I think John and Paul’s guitars are also capoed on the track. I think likely this song could be Hofner. Is there any other song that might be a Hofner candidate??
@Jason.Brayshaw2 жыл бұрын
@@AcumbaWumba Yes! Thank-you for pointing this out. Everytime I've mentioned this on other 'chats' I've always been told that is incorrect. However, I would also go as far as saying that the solo on Michelle is in fact Paul playing a capo'd bass.

@AcumbaWumba2 жыл бұрын
@@gdholmfirth In My Life could be. I haven’t listened to the isolated bass track for it but It does also have a sort of thump that is normally the Hofners tone. I’m Looking Through You is a track I thought also might be Hofner but the isolated track sounds almost fender like with the highs present in it’s sound. Honestly was really surprised though might just be the isolation. Maybe he was using the middle position?

Absolutely outstanding, Michael (do I really need to add, "as always"?). It's funny and interesting that Paul's bass playing, while always incredible, seems a little "extra" on songs he did not write (like "Something," for instance). It's almost as if he can devote more energy to just playing rather than worrying about all the other stuff that goes along with bringing one of his own songs to fruition. And his bass playing on this song is literally Paul at his best. Great recreation!

Four questions for you please Mike. 1. Is this the last use of the 360/12 on a Beatle's recording? 2. George had the second 360/12 by then. The one from B Sharp music that is MIA. He used that for this track live many times. Can we speculate about which one was used, is there any difference sonically? 3. Are there any Beatles recordings where all three of them used Rickenbacker? 4. Why do you think George used Fenders, I think a Fender X11 for this song later in his career and what would have been the difference. Indeed might he have just used Rocky with some effects?
@MichaelSokil2 жыл бұрын
1. There's an electric 12-string on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," but nobody knows if it's a Rickenbacker or the Guild-12. 2. It was almost certainly the second 360-12. You'll notice my tone isn't quite what the record sounds like. The second one has a slightly rounder sound. 3. Great question! I don't think so. The closest is the outtake session of "What You're Doing," when Paul is on John's 325, George is on the 12, and John is on the 325-12. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWrVpKlrf8SGaLc 4. George was a childhood fan of Fenders! A Fender Strat was his holy grail guitar. The "Anthology" book has sketches from his grade school notebooks with drawings of Strats. He favored them early.
