@@lou_b00 For the present day show timeline, I'd put in no order besides Barristan Selmy being the top, Jaime Lannister (pre-hand cut), Oberyn Martell, Sandor Clegane/Gregor, Brienne of Tarth, Jon Snow, Daario, Drogo, Grey Worm, Bronn, as far as Loras Tylell...ehhh he's like a 7.5-8/10, he is definitely better than everyone else around him, but with the big dogs, he'd be at the bottom of the list. Tormund would probably die to most on this list before Loras, he's not that focused, just brute force oriented. He'd body Loras into a ditch though.

That's the thing, he didn't know Dayne would be there. You would expect kingsguard to be with the royal family, baby Viserys and and his mom. It was a matter of haste and secrecy, even still Ned's company was outnumbering them 7 to 2 (in the books it's three).

Dayne wasn’t at the Trident. Dayne wasn’t in Kings Landing. Ned didn’t know he’d be at the Tower of Joy. But not knowing Daynes whereabouts is an unknown unknown. And I’m bringing 50 as a precaution lol

There's a theory that Howland Reed, the man who stabbed Arthur Dayne in the back, is the secret lover of Arthur's sister Ashara Dayne. If so, it's possible that Howland mentioned Ashara during the duel to throw Arthur off.

House Reed seems to get Green Seers from time to time. I'd bet that Howland was at least a strong enough Warg, like six skins up North, to least skin change into Dayne once the fighting got bad for the Stark side. This might have created an opening to kill Dayne, since he would be busy fighting an internal battle to keep his flesh. Just like Six skins did to the woman in the intro to Dance, or what Bran does to Hodor

The only feasible way to overpower Dayne is if all 7 ganged up on him simultaneously instead of taking turns as they did. Run at him granted he’ll likely kill 2 or 3 when you charge but it's worth the sacrifice. On the other hand, if Dayne played it smart he would have retreated to the stairs of Tower of Joy thus eliminating the number advantage the enemy has by forcing them to go through a narrow chokepoint.

In the real world, doesn't matter how good of a fighter you are when there are 7 weapons being actively swung against you. Realistically, he'd probably only get to kill 1 and injure a couple, if he got lucky. Even if you had a greatsword or polearm, you'd only be able to temporarily hold off your surroundings. The moment you are exhausted it's game-over.

Pretty sure dawn is in the show, they just wanted to make him look cooler so they made it a short sword and duel wielding. They show Ned specifically bring it up the tower with a setting son on the pommel. So they just failed to do it justice

Did Ned even have ownership of Ice at this time? Would it not be in the capital with his father's corpse since he was the Lord of Winterfell. Ned wasn't even heir, it was his brother who was also killed on the capital. For Ned to have it, someone would have needed to return it to him in the midst of the conflict, like he did at the end of the conflict with Dawn to House Dayne.

I think the point was Ned wanted a splinter group to go to the tower of joy because he didn’t want Robert boratheon to know what went down out there. Ned was scared of what he would find and if he brought 50 men he couldn’t have kept the baby a secret. Robert would’ve found out and put Jon snow to the sword.

He didnt take dudes that he could win a fight with; he took dudes he could trust implicitly. Ned knew what he was going to find, if he didnt already know that she wasnt kidnapped, which i think he did. Benjen was her shadow, was with her at all times and saw her crying over Rhaegar. He would have helped her in everything she did, and this is why he went to the wall despite being only one of three Stark men alive, and one was an infant rob. Plus, im sure Ed knew how much she loathed Robert. Lyanna is the same girl that won a joust against 3 KNIGHTS the day before she went MIA. How often did people compare Arya to her? And Arya spoke her mind to even Tywin Lannister while in witness protection and fought the Hound rather than do quiet. Youre not kidnapping Lyanna quietly if she doesnt wanna go - Ned knew it. So Ned took guys he trusted and who would be 1000 miles from Robert. He was keeping a secret, not fighting the Kingsguard.

Naah, I would use the same number of men as Ned did. But armoured as if they were fighting a tourney against the devil himself (cuz they will!) I mean not a single weak point in their armour. Then when he is distracted trying to find one. Howland Reed will shout him with one of them blow darts his Crannogmen of the Neck are known for. (night night) now where is my sister? 7 was honestly pretty close to what you would need. 1 on 1 fight is doable. 1 v 2 is dangerous. 1 v 3 is suicide. You can be as skilled as you want. 3 v 1 even if they're useless is death.
