On August 27th, 2023, Sam Norton collapsed at mile 23 of the Santa Rosa Marathon. Three days after his funeral, his application to run The Speed Project- an unsanctioned relay race from Los Angeles to Las Vegas- was accepted. His closest friends knew the best way to honor his memory was to run the race he had been dreaming of. They named their team “The Sam Project.”

Sam and I grew up together, ran cross country, skied, played basketball, & lacrosse. As a kid, he was my coach. I looked up to him, and knew he was always going to do whatever he set his heart on. He had the drive of a superhero and was never afraid to step up and lead the charge. Running the relay in his honor was a beautiful sight to see, and congratulations on finishing. Thank you to all who were involved in the race & the making of this film. Rest in peace Sam Norton.
