Because if they are outside, the animatronics would risk being seen, or heard by the neighborhood. Even if a few do roam outside, it can be explained away with Willian making guardian robots to protect his kids. But if they try to chase his kids who are clearly terrified through the yard, the neighbors would definitely notice.
