As someone who supports end users for software I wrote specifically for them, it is actually normal for professionals to forget how to use the main tools of their job. What's completely unlike most professionals I know, Dave admits it. Answer to how the bomb exploding thing works: the creator filled up the entity limit(which is 100) using probably either enemies on tracks or one way gates. There is then some sort of contraption on top of the level that allows a certain amount of enemies to be killed before activating the muncher, probably by spawning enemies itself, then stopping at a certain point. Once there are only 99 entities and no spots in the contraption, the muncher spawns and kills the bomb.

DGR i saw it on ceaves, he uses 1 ways which are always loaded to fill the enemy limit, so you have to kill the enemies so theres 1 enemy less than enemy limit and the muncher spawns. Sorry i took so long

Pretty sure that Colosseum of Casuals uses the sprite limit to detect when all of the enemies in a room are defeated. The Bob-OMB's explosion is triggered by a Muncher, which can only spawn if a sprite slot is available. I once played a level that used the same mechanism, except that it was used to punish the player for killing Goombas. You weren't allowed to kill any, and if you did, an exploding Bob-OMB would hit a switch that trapped you in the room you were in. Killing a Goomba freed up a Sprite slot so that a Muncher would come out of a pipe and set off a Bob-OMB.

If you lose all your lives you don’t have to restart, btw! You just lose your checkpoints for the level you’re at and can continue with more lives. So it’s no different than if you restarted after already collecting a checkpoint to save a life. Thought this might be useful for ya!

The first level uses a level object limit exploit once the enemies on screen are killed the pipe is able to spawn more enemies. I'm pretty sure Ceave made a video on it.
