Bernardo gave me the not only the insight what and that I had been missing something in my world view but also courage to explore it which lead me to Rupert who gave me the tools and the understanding to explore and develop the part of me and my world view that had been missing. I want to extend my deepest gratitude for enabling me and others to access and actualize these teachings and insights. Thank you.

One of my favourite quotes in this wonderful discussion is from Barnardo at about 40.00: 'My life is bursting at the seams with meaning because it's not about me'. So true but so contrary to the way most people live their lives; always aiming to improve and aiming at the horizon. Who is the aimer and where is the horizon? In fact the horizon is here and the separate self is an illusion. As Krishnamurti said; 'Happy is the man who is nothing'.

That was the quite profoundly disappointing element of this conversation for me. Surely for ones whose lives are steeped in this understanding, the only truly non-dual response to any situation is one of love and vulnerability, not judgement and force. By that I mean, not weakness and inaction but the most powerful witness of passive resistance and peaceful, non-violent protest against the perpetration of violence. The only way to neutralise violence is to absorb it in the name of love, even at the expense of our own lives. To fight fire with fire is an age-old response which may seem to resolve a given situation but ultimately only sets us up for endless repetitions of the same. I think it was Henry Thoreau who said “Things do not change; we change.” If Rupert and Bernardo are still treading the well worn path of violent retaliation, I wonder if they’ve really changed at all and, if not, what is it that they hope to teach us?

I am so disappointed in Bernardo and Ruppert’s view on politics in their dialogue on non-duality. Doing what they feel is needed with love is better than doing it without love. Your love on this occasion is still of the kind of egoic love. You do not include everything and you have a judgment that you feel is a superior power giving you the right to judge the level of consciousness of another country. In this instance, you seem to forget that Ukraine was engaged in killing the Russian in the Donbas for seven years and you have not uttered a single word this last seven years as something you find so impossible to come to terms with. The persecution of these people and the constant bombardment and killing that Ukraine's government engaged in were mostly silent. Russians have the right to their own spiritual survival. The ultra-liberalism of America is not for them and frankly, many people are starting to say no to it. Our leaders are not evolved enough to understand that their own ways of governing the world are not embraced by other evolving countries. These countries are facing their own issues with their own population and what is now arising in the world. We need a different kind of engagement. A government that can lead at the level of conscious understanding of evolutionary principles. And our place in it in a personal and collective way of being in the world- on this increasing surface of spiritual understanding. Bernardo, you seem to make your own understanding of what is happening about you, where you are at your level of consciousness and delivering a message where not all elements are included, negated, and transcended. Rupert is committing the same mistake. I so wish that people at your level of spiritual understanding will not commit this error. In love and peace.

" Awareness cannot exist with duality, and mind cannot exist without duality. Awareness is non-dual, and mind is dual. If you go outwards you will move into the world of duality. If you go inwards you will move into the world of non-duality; you will become non-polar. Enlightenment is the realization of the non-dual. When there is I, it creates thou. When there is I it creates duality, and all is lost in duality. When there is no I, then there is non-duality. Then you are one with existence, utterly one. Then you are nothing but a pulsation of existence itself, just a ripple in the lake of this infinite consciousness. If you are divided in two, into man and woman, negative/ positive, darkness/light, mind/heart, thought/feeling - if you are divided in two, your energy will be going downward. Division is the way of the downward. When you are undivided, one, you start moving upward. To be one is to move upward, to be two is to move downward. Duality is the way to hell, non-duality is the way to heaven. These are the two planes of humanity: duality, the plane of duality, what Hindus call DWAITA, the plane of two; and non-duality, the plane of one, the plane of the non-dual. When you are divided you are in this world; when you are undivided, you have transcended - you are no longer here, you have penetrated into the Beyond. Then boundaries meet and the boundaries meet in you. So the whole effort is how to become undivided, how to become one. This has to be the criterion whether you have reached the goal or not. If there is still something as its polar opposite, you have not reached; you are still in the duality. One can move from one duality to another duality; it does not make any change. One has to move from duality to non-duality, because non-duality is the ultimate. The ultimate has no opposite to it. It is the final synthesis where all opposites have melted into one, when male and female have melted into one. REMEMBER, when we use the word ‘oneness’, that too is part of duality. If there is no duality how can there be oneness? That’s why Hindus never use ‘oneness’. If you ask Shankara, “What is the nature of existence?” he says, “Non-dual, ADVAITA, not two.” He will never say one, because how can you say one? If there is only one, how can you say one? One needs two to be meaningful. If there is no possibility of the second, of the two, then what is the use of saying that it is one? Shankara says, “At the most, I can say not two, but I cannot say positively one. I can say what the reality is not: it is not two. I cannot say what it is, because meaning, words, all become useless.” Enlightenment simply means you disappear, you become the whole. There is no question of separation or no separation. There is no question of oneness, because even the word `oneness’ hides behind it twoness. What do you mean when you say oneness? - you mean twoness. The mystics have avoided using the word `oneness’, but you cannot. In the very nature of intellectual understanding you can go a little roundabout - and that’s what people like Shankara have done. They talk about non-duality, no-twoness; they don’t talk about oneness. They want to indicate oneness, but they don’t want to use the word `oneness’ because oneness points towards twoness. Enlightenment means the point from where you take a jump into the non-dual. Before that point is duality. Everything is divided. Language creates duality, language exists through duality. It cannot indicate the non-dual. If I say ‘day’, immediately I create night. If I say ‘life’, immediately I create death. If I say ‘good’, immediately bad is created. If I say ‘no’, just by the side of the no, yes is existing. Language can exist only through the opposite. That’s why we see life as always divided - God and devil. Drop language, drop this linguistic pattern. Once language is no more on your mind and you look directly into reality, day IS night. Suddenly you will start laughing at why you missed it so long! Day, every day turns into night; night turns into day every morning again, and you have been missing. Life is always turning into death, death always turns again into life, and you have been missing. They are not two, they are one whole. This is the non-dual, ADWAITA. This is the most essential religion."

And Companionship aka Love is what Oneness (it is OK to call it God or Christ) is all about hence why it is said that God is Love. No need to agree. Blessings.

A message for Bernardo and JaCha (below): Consider there may be no "getting completely there", no point at which one can say "ah, now I'm fully enlightened", but rather only an endless deeping of understanding, and you have "arrived" at every point along the way, never to stay there. (Maybe being enlightened is just a silly idea.) Being sensitive to suffering and injustice and feeling unrest while that is going on, is no sign of a shallow understanding of the nature of reality, and there can never be a complete understanding either, in my view. We are where we are in our individual and collective ripening. While we may admire a beautiful, ripe, juicy fruit and recognize ours is a little greener, being green is as necessary as being ripe. Forgetting about getting to the next stage, may help things flow along. Thank you friends, for your generosity. These conversations are a treat for us all.
@jacha14742 жыл бұрын
Not sure I'm understanding what you are meaning here. I don't think I mentioned getting to the next stage of anything...not certain if Bernardo did either. For me, there is no "next stage" no "getting anywhere." This is it. Enlightenment is merely the understanding and realization of who you are beyond the ego/person and living life from that perspective. We are where we are in our individual ripening...that's true. But either we "ripen" as an unconscious aspect of ourselves...through a lack of understanding of the nature of reality, or we "ripen" through grasping the bigger picture. The bigger picture is that we are all ONE. Sometimes we don't feel this unity, but just because we don't always feel it, does not negate the reality of it. Thanks for sharing your message here.

@@jacha1474 Hi JaCha! So nice to talk about these matters. Thank you for clarifying your perspective. I guess from your words I felt what I interpreted as something like disappointment at not feeling unity. Maybe I misinterpreted you both. It felt something like wanting to feel unity and that the felt sense of unity hasn't come to you yet... or that you don't always feel it all the times. Also, in Bernardo's words I had heard some kind of longing for peace which he says he doesn't often feel. I was speaking to that. When I spoke of the next stage, I meant like the next stage of personal development wherein one might feel more at peace, have a deeper understanding and feel more at one with everything. It seems to me that longing for peace can help propel us towards it (to set us off on a journey seeking it until eventually we may stop looking outwardly), but I notice that the longing for it can also get in the way at times and in some cases it's helpful to let go of our ideas of how it should be. I must have simply misunderstood your words. I meant no undermining of your understanding of enlightenment. It got me to thinking though... (now I see it musn't be true of you and maybe not Bernardo either), I thought to myself... if a person who had an idea of what unity was supposed to feel like actually felt it, would that person be able to recognize it, if the actual feeling of unity wasn't like their idea of how it should feel? Maybe they were feeling it already and not realizing it because it wasn't as extraordinary as they imagined?
@jacha14742 жыл бұрын
@@nataliciosa Yes, Natalia...very nice indeed! Okay, I get ya now. Because we're part human, we experience life through our feelings. Thank goodness, because if we didn't have them, we'd be robots. (That doesn't mean we should lose ourselves in them, however.) But, you're right on several issues here....for those who don't quite grasp what awareness and the nature of reality is all about yet. In 2010, I wrote a book, "The Next Level...a Journey of Spiritual Awakening through Physics and Other Sciences." In it, I explained my spontaneous feeling of ONENESS with the universe...for a short period...and how I tried desperately to get that feeling back...ultimately learning to let go and live my awareness through that experience and through my understanding of the nature of reality. There are many modern day teachers/gurus who tout a "felt" sense of unity...being one with God & Nature" and how to "feel" connected. And their subjects...especially the new ones, long for this felt sense of connection. Although Bernardo, in another talk, did feel this unity...through the use of LSD, it was refreshing to hear him point out that, feelings aside, a conceptual understanding is also an "avenue" if you will, to live life from a unified perspective...as opposed to an individual one. But...the experience and feeling of ONENESS is extraordinary. It's life changing. Sometimes you can experience this through psychedelics (like Ram Dass did...which changed his life forever.) Sometimes spontaneously (like I did...which changed my life forever.) And sometimes gradually...through, meditation and understanding. But you're right....it's probably nothing like you would imagine it to be. It's beyond what takes place in the mind. :-)

@@jacha1474 Hello again, nice to greet you. I hear what you are saying and know what you are referring to. I sometimes wonder if that intense and all encompassing feeling of oneness (like a kiss from God) is actually sustainable throughout our daily activities. I tend to think not. It seems to be natural that the feeling should fade a little into the background so that we can tend to what is before us in our daily lives. I don't suggest that we can "lose contact with it", or that it's something other than ourselves that we can lose touch with (though at first, the more intellectual processes of the mind seem to give us the impression that we have lost touch with it), but we can't seem to always be entirely engulfed by the feeling. I would say it's too all encompassing and we are not able to do anything else so we simply can't maintain it all the time while we are living human beings. It seems to me we must have one foot in heaven and one foot on earth, if you get my meaning haha. In my view, the one-foot-in-heaven-and-one-foot-on-earth experience is quite common, and even felt by everyone at times. I think the felt sense of unity occurs naturally when we appreciate beauty, or fill up with affection, also when we are in creative processes, or flowing - becoming involved with an activity to the point of not thinking, forgetting oneself and time, or losing the distinction between me and what is going on. I would say these experiences are quite extraordinary, though we tend not to see them that way, and we may tend to seek to more exotic God's Kiss experience haha. The God's Kiss experience is life changing without question, but it is not necessary in order to feel a deep sense of unity, in my opinion. Once we become aware and understand these things more deeply over time, there is no getting away from that felt sense of unity, even if it feels subtler than a Kiss from God haha.

You are absolutely correct in everything you’ve written here. The key, however, is “becoming aware.” Not many of us are. I appreciate Rupert and Bernardo because they speak about awareness from two different perspectives…science and spirituality…which for me…starting out as a non spiritual person…lead to the same conclusion of unity. I love the conversation, thank you for this sharing, it is deep and at a level that I crave or I could say a level that I am immensely grateful to have the privileged to watch. In my own life, this understanding has permeated my experience with peace, joy, love, freedom and authenticity. I love how Bernardo brought about the topic of the sense of mystery of life and how this has been lost in our actual society. The sense of mystery, the wonderment about existence. The felt sense of awe and wonder of the mystery of life. I love the talk about the mystery and the felt sense of being a kid in kermes. In my own experience, there is a feeling of wonderment about the beauty of life, a sense of playfulness, the magic of being here experiencing existence. The game of life living itself through me, being a person, going to work, driving a car, looking at a plant, eating an olive. That existence existing through us as an “individual” body/mind. Individuality alone for me was very dry, and very hard to live with and I experienced a sense of having lost something very important, a sense of something being really wrong. But individuality coupled with the knowing of our shared being has brought back the sense of love, peace and joy that I longed for all of my life and with it, the felt sense that being here, existing is the most magical wonderful thing that can happen. The fact that there is existence, to connect to that mystery of life is a doorway to the sense of being alive deeply. The aliveness and the simple joy of being. And from a deeper perspective, seeing, knowing or understanding that consciousness knows itself as itself only, from that perspective, nothing ever happens, there is only being or awareness of being, and even deeper, nothingness. The mastery in which they put that into words is also astonishing and I can’t thank them enough for doing so publicly, we need it. I also wanted to reflect about labels and what we do in the world. I felt compelled to share that nature expresses itself through me as “life coaching,“ in the moment, although “my“ life coaching is informed by the knowing of our shared being. I know that Bernardo was not judgmental about any activity and I totally get what he was saying when mentioning that often life is about “me” and how to be a better “me”. The label “life coaching,“ is assigned to “my“ activity instead of friend or spiritual “something”. But what goes on in a session is the meeting of reality through our shared being and the “transmission” of the “unconditional love and total freedom” of our true nature. What speaks through “me” is to the best of my ability, Truth. And words are clumsy, this is not to say that it is not what is going on in any activity, it is just to open the discussion about how an activity might seem to be about the me person becoming a better person but in fact it might not be. I also feel that the field of life coaching is evolving from a transactional coaching to a more, “transformational“ or deep coaching, more towards being and less towards doing. I also love the talk about the need of force and that hiding in doing nothing about situations that are limiting freedom and love is a reaction or the ego. That stopping evil can be done as Truth and that the absolute does not mean to hide behind some concept about it. Sometimes it means enforcing law and stopping evil even though this evil is nature expressing itself as that limiting of nature itself. Thank you and I hope to see more of these conversations. And I also want to say that Simon is playing a crucial role in bringing these conversations to life, so thank you Simon.

I just want to add something to Bernardo's closing statements about addictions. He noted eating meat but the real issue is not what is eaten, but eating in and of itself as food addiction in general. I was raised in a dominant vegetarian environment as a Seventh Day Adventist. And you can bet your butts that vegetarian food addiction is no different than addiction to eating meat. We had some holier than thou attitude about a superior health message. But when I looked around at the congregation of people, what I saw is a lot of people who are either way too fat or sickly looking skinny. The fat people were vegetarian food addicts and the frail people were malnourished in various ways. It's not a congregation of perfectly fit people with demonstrable superiority where weight and physical strength is concerned. People get the wrong idea a lot of the time about vegetarianism. It has its own "dark side." If not balanced correctly.

Hi, why do you relate to media? The fact is - without doubt - Russia invaded Ukraine. Please look up on Wikipedia how the second world war began - please really look it up and see how the story unfolded in the beginning, and what the consequences were. Yes there might be economic interests involved and media/propaganda might tell this and that on both sides, but the core issue remains. This is the reason for the reaction of the West - having that story in the back of their heads (invasion austria, blitzkrieg poland,…) - doing nothing would have similar catastrophical consequences - as they said in the talk: “If they get away with everything, they will do everything.” We have historical proof for that. Besides that - I think they discussed it pretty well.

We become what we understand when it has moved to 'the heart'. We have transcended the impression of something outside ourselves, as reality. This also points to appreciating what thought *extantly* is. We typically experience thought with vague depths of intention and attention. Philosophy is what we do to slow down to examine our thinking. Philosophy has a significance, as our ability to think, but what we have become is what we bring wherever we go, wherever we are.

The more abstract and "spiritual" the language, the more it all sounds the same - and the more easily it can be used to both incite and retroactively justify violence. Motivated reasoning works the same no matter what the spiritual altitude it comes from. Do you think it might be safer to... stay in your lane?

I believe that each and every one of us in whatever life form we are, are living this life experience for our own personal growth. I believe that all life is a form of God, of the source, of consciousness, whatever you want to call the ultimate greatness. All life is a manifestation of consciousness, so in other words, we are all God living a life experience. I believe that we all go back to the place or state that we all came from before we manifested. I agree with Rupert that love is the energy that we need to "try" to guide us in our daily challenges. Although we are the same, we are here in this life experience as unique individuals; an experience that God is experiencing through us. So the awareness and importance of not judging others are paramount to trying to live in love. We don't understand or know what is really going on with Putin. We have our own personal beliefs, but that does not make them a reality, it's just our own personal beliefs and understanding. Hence the importance of realizing that Putin is also a manifestation of God and we don't understand why he is what he is or why he is being driven to do what he is doing, but he is still from, and of God. Maybe our eternal individual souls are on a constant evolutionary journey of gaining deeper knowing consciousness with each life we live. Maybe Putin's soul has to learn important lessons from his experiences in this life for his own evolutionary journey's growth.

Rupert (in case you read this), Byron Katie once told a dear little story … There once was held a big council in heaven, where all the angels of all the heavens came to hear … and God asks for a certain job to be done … and when the angels heard this - they all shrank back … in horror … and fright ... And after aeons and aeons of lifetimes … finally … one angel showed up … and said “YES!” … “I’m gonna be THAT one, to be the Hitler on this Earth!”. I do NOT know … and NOTHING is as it seems (that’s at least MY story).

It s really beautiful to think of it that way: The physical space and the mental space are one. Moving through the physical space Is equal to shifting "our" consciousness. From the point of view of the consciousness we are literally moving the mountains sec by sec. Thank you for this amazing and truly inspirational exchange of thoughts! 😀❤

Non duality implies duality, which means that there is a 4th law of thermodynamics:- From a convergent, convex or syntropic perspective everything looks divergent, concave or entropic -- the 2nd law of thermodynamics. My syntropy is your entropy and your syntropy is my entropy -- duality creates reality! Syntropy (prediction) is dual to increasing entropy -- the 4th law of thermodynamics. Teleological physics (syntropy) is dual to non-teleological physics (entropy). Mind (the internal soul, syntropy) is dual to matter (the external soul, entropy) -- Descartes or Plato's divided line. Idealism is dual to materialism -- substance dualism. Noumenal (rational, analytic) is dual to phenomenal (empirical, synthetic) -- Immanuel Kant. Homology is dual to co-homology -- topology. Reducing the number of dimensions or states is a syntropic or convergent process -- homology. Increasing the the number of dimensions or states is an entropic or divergent process -- co-homology. Differentiation (reductionism, entropic) is dual to integration (holism, syntropic). Convergence (syntropy) is dual to divergence (entropy). Action is dual to reaction -- Sir Isaac Newton (the duality of force). Attraction is dual to repulsion, push is dual to pull -- forces are dual. "Always two there are" -- Yoda.

This is so enormously surprising, to a point of shocking perhaps, to see that these enormously evolved minds and hearts, still fall victim to this obvious kind of selective outrage. At first I was disappointed, but immediately thereafter realized we 're all simply human. That's what we are. And that's so wonderfully okay.

It would be OK had they at least acknowledged that they were falling short of the ideal, as indeed we all do. The disappointing thing to me is the way that it was portrayed as being consistent with the non-dual understanding. It isn’t!

There is 'no one' to express unity. There is no one to experience whatever 'is', except from the illusory perspective of a separate self. You could both release referring to each other's ego or separate self in a apparent context like this.

Aside from my other comment, I'd like to add that this interview is largely inspirational. The coming together of the philosophical logical path and mystical experiential path is well in order. I've ascended in life from what I mentioned below (strict dogmatic and dualistic fundamentalism) to a non-dual vision of interconnected Reality. And in a non-dual Reality, it's not possible that the logical and experiential paths should ever be separate and not united. That separated sentiment goes against the very foundational premise of non-duality. We should see science, philosophy, and mystical experience as one interconnected unity of multidisciplinary understanding across the board. And that is what goes into a newer version of Idealism that I have named, "Hermetic Idealism." Which embraces Analytic Idealism and Mathematical Idealism. As well as the experiential path. When I get my own KZbin Channel running for "The Hermetic Order of 21st Century Idealist's," I would very much like to book you (Rupert Spira) for interviews. And collaborate with Bernardo Kastrup and Donald Hoffman with myself moderating. So that the four of us together can further explore the coming together of the scientific, philosophical, and experiential paths and the audiences of each.

From the Hebrew Scriptures: "Vengeance is mine says the Lord (YHVH - the Abrahamic "God"). I disagree with that, after all, that "God" supports the institution of slavery in Leviticus.

This was my favorite conversation either of them have ever had on KZbin. Particularly the beginning, talking about the Ukraine. I’ve never heard Rupert or Bernardo speaking so conversationally. It was refreshing. Reminded me that they’re humans just like the rest of us. Well done. 🙏🏻
@mangelwurzel4762 жыл бұрын
Yes they’re human like the rest of us but they’re also supposed to be teaching the rest of us humans that our conditioned reactions to situations like this are missing the point! The non-dual path was simply abandoned for several minutes while they discussed how we should go after the Russians. However there was never any acknowledgement that this normal, violent human reaction fell short of the non-dual understanding. That’s the non-dual understanding which is supposed to be about NOT being dualistic? Weird.

@@mangelwurzel476 are you suggesting that the ukrainians should just let russia step on them, because in essence (in idealism pov) we are all one and the same? the fact that we can even have these discussions in a free society is because the state is protecting us from external forces

@@JA-gz6cj That is exactly what I’m saying, Read Gandhi’s appeal to the British, during WWII to accept his method of non-violent resistance: “You will invite Herr Hitler and Signor Mussolini to take what they want of the countries you call your possessions. Let them take possession of your beautiful island, with your many beautiful buildings. You will give all these, but neither your souls, nor your minds. If these gentlemen choose to occupy your homes, you will vacate them. If they do not give you free passage out, you will allow yourself, man, woman and child, to be slaughtered, but you will refuse to owe allegiance to them.” Would many people die in this scenario? Yes! But they’re dying anyway! This is radical non-duality. It demands courage and a deep, deep understanding of our oneness. Gandhi seemed to have some success with this approach. By all means allow the state to protect you and fight fire with fire, but please don’t call it non-duality. True non-duality is an outrage to most in our society.
