Story 1 reminds me of a Rich Hall joke: Asking for directions to a friends farm. This local said 'Go down this road for about 3 miles and you'll see a dead Opossum in the middle of the road. Turn left there'. 'How will I know if the Opossum will still be there? 'Would you pick up a dead Opossum?'

Back in the 90s when my dad was looking for work as a flooring installer, his first boss used the whole "turn where the old red barn used to be" joke with him knowing that he was new to the area. Being a small family owned store, his wife was right in the office and came out to give him a good whack over the head, ordering him to show my dad where the place was. Probably one of my dad's better stories, tbh. XD

Pre boomer: "dag nabit I guess now a day if you want to do things right you have to do it yourself, watch this is how we did it in my day". Getting a visceral reaction on number 3 there on my end. My old man was basically the same regarding jobhunts, and while there was still a few smaller stores that were actually worth pounding pavement for (I'd argue the only reason our town isn't entirely podunk is it's a major highway split to the coastline towns) though in my case it was during the 2012 recession and the years after before I just... kinda gave up and resigned myself to fate. Wasn't even getting callbacks from the chainstores, what was the point of wasting the effort? Lost him during covid alas.

I got a job by going in and handing my resume in 2021. I just went in and handed them a resume when they said "Apply on our website "i told them "SERIOUSLY? I just drove 30 miles and to work at a company that says help wanted but had no specific instructions on how to apply?" (She goes to Manager and says this and i later asked to see him and get hired), the company later changed their help wanted banner and added "apply online" with a bunch of websites and a QR code.
