If STARSTABLE was more SKILL-BASED

In my opinion racing in sso would be way more fun if we had more skill-based things to do, so i tried making my own! This is an edit, it's not in the actual game!

That's a good idea, although I think, that RDR2 has the best implementation of that system. First of all, you can slide there and take sharp turns using ctrl to slow down and shift to speed up. So, if you want to take sharp corner, you press ctrl, your horse starts to slide and after taking the corner you press shift to speed up again. Another thing is the stamina system. In SSO you get to the fastest gait and that's it. You just don't have to do anything other than keep running. In RDR2 you have stamina, so you can't run on the fastest gait all the time. If SSO had 6th gait called sprint or something, that could change the way we race. You would need to know when to sprint and how much. It's pretty simple stuff. RDR2 managed to create fun and engaging system or horse riding and I feel like SSO would benefit greatly just from this. Regarding the video, random speed boosts sound fun, although I would have to try them out, to really check if I like it.

That's interesting, I know a similar system with the horses in Zelda, it works with stamina as well. I'd love to see that in sso but I'm sure some people might find it annoying

Tbh many horse games have combinations for stuff like this. Different from AO, yes, but some nonetheless. Only option away from this would be better speed control (so you cannot run at full speed the whole race) and more sensibility for the turns. Maybe some keys to hit before a jump? Or before a curve to curve more efficiently? (So leaving out speed boosts).

It would make racing so much more interesting and actually worth it to me. It would also make champs harder and more skill based than just knowing the short cuts and having a fully trained horse. Also the editing on that is Beautiful! Hopefully sometime earlier than 2056 we get smth like that lol!
