Jesus spoke these words on Friday afternoon, and John records that Jesus tells Mary Magdalene, on Sunday morning, that He has not yet ascended to the Father. So, it's clear that Jesus Himself did not go to Paradise that day (crucifixion Friday). The fact that the Bible also teaches that death is a sleep, and that the saved are to be resurrected and taken to Paradise at the last day, also strongly suggests that the thief is not yet in Paradise, even now. But he will be! Seventh-day Adventists, who generally understand this, usually sing, "Then He promised him Paradise." I am surprised at the oversight by these excellent vocalists.
