Here’s a story: Long ago, during the Jade Emperor’s birthday, he decided to throw a race through a long river. He invited every animal there was. Back then, cats and rats were friends, so the cat asked his friend rat to wake him up in time on the day of the race. Rat promised to do so, but on the morning of the race, rat never woke up cat. He jumped on an ox who swam through a river to the end. Halfway there, cat woke up and was forced to swim through the water. When the cat found the ox, he didn’t hesitate to jump on. He saw rat who was smiling grimly. All of a sudden, rat used cat as a trampoline to propel himself to the finish line, as they were close. Cat was kicked back into the water, hissing and scratching the air. All the other 11 animals zoomed past cat. Cat was finally able to swim to the finish line as the sun was setting, and begged the Jade Emperor to allow him on the Zodiac, but he was never able to. When cat next saw rat, cat chased him without pause. The end. (P.S. There are other versions of the story too, this is just the version I heard.)
