Ian Watson is truly the greatest champion of Slaanesh! . But with all siriousness this book is so difficult to read. Partly because of the colorfull language that he uses(Which means you need to read it several time to understand it properly) and partly because of the main character. When they said that he is monologing constantly they did mean CONSTANTLY. To the point where I just shouted "Get on with it already!"

I have read the original book, Inquisitor, from its run in 1990s. From what I read from the collected series, Inquistion Wars, a lot was edited. So yes, the original editions of the Inquisition War trilogy were MUCH more...explicit. Yes, Ian Watson wrote things hypererotic. He wrote a couple of stories for a collection of 40k called Deathwing. Both stories he wrote for it were rather...detailed in their description of certain people and actions.

The cast sound as happy as I do when the Plantar Fasciitis in both my feet is aggravated at the same time. And by the 10th step, I'm usually ready to punch something into pulp, so that tells you everything right there. Some side notes: Ian Watson is apparently a prolific Science Fiction writer (in the same way COVID is prolific), which is likely why he wrote this book since AI had yet to even hit production just yet. But most of his work ranges from passable speculative fiction to... *Orgasmachine,* which happens to contain elements of forced feminine subservience as well as actual objectification of women by making them into literal custom-made sex objects. Even speaking as a straight man with more "dominant" preferences, the description alone was very much enough to tell me to stay away from it by any measure humanly available. Like, I'm not the kind of person to talk about "Male Gaze" bullcrap, but... yeah. And about AI: it was originally Stanley Kubrick's brain child, because after Eyes Wide Shut, he wanted to do a fairy tale like film. But seeing as we're talking Kubrick here, he doubted he could get the whimsy down right, so he tried to get his buddy, Steve Spielberg, to do it because that man USED TO KNOW how to make Whimsy. They went back and forth until Kubrick said "alright, you talked me into it," but then kicked the bucket after making Eyes Wide Shut. Feeling sad that his friend's dream film never got made, Ol Stevey Spiel took up the reigns. I say this because I think that interview, plus his biblography, might have been what led Watson to become the screenwriter for the film. That, or Kubrick brought him on board for his background writing Sci-Fi and to shut him up over that Inquisitor movie. And speaking as someone who likes the movie fine enough, I can at least say Spielberg almost git a good fusion of both directors' styles down... but that writing, HOLY ST MOSES!
