Sure maybe in the movies..... but not in the book. They changed a lot between the movies and the books for the sake of movie making, which made it so Hermonie took on and did many things that which Ron, Harry and Dobby (Possible more) others did in the books. It's why specifically Ron is deemed to be such a cowardly incompetent character in the movies, all the smart and brave things was cut from him in essence.

I'd say even in the books, Hermione really does a lot of the work, for sure all the trio was important, and I see your point, but we really can't cut Hermione short. Without her Harry likely wouldn't have gotten passed the potion puzzle and he also could've been killed in his first quiditch match, Harry would've had no clue he was up against a basilisk in his second year, let alone what a basilisk was and that they're gaze could kill people so he likely would've died in the chamber, Sirius would've been killed by the dementors and Buckbeak would've been executed, she figured out Rita Skeeter was an animagus and stopped her, if I recall correctly, she still came up with the idea for Dumbledore's Army(although she didn't find the room of requirement, that was Dobby) as well as the coins for notifying them of the meetings, in her sixth year I admit she didn't do that much for Harry, but she was the only one who ended up getting her apparition license by the time of the 7th book, which was very essential in the deathly hallows, and even if Ron had gotten his apparition license, she was the one who packed everything and had a plan, so we really can't say she wasn't as essential in the books

That's what Hermione could've never done. She cared little about what others thought of her and as a result made more enemies than friends. She was smarter than everyone else and she let everyone know it. She wasn't truly arrogant, but she sure seemed that way to her fellow students. If she had Harry's leadership skills, she would've been the perfect protagonist, but she didn't. Its a testament to the writing skills of J.K. Rowling. All her characters had flaws and depth. There was no perfect good character, like you'd find in many other , less good fantasy stories.

Ron offered Harry friendship and sacrificed himself in the game of chess in the philosopher's stone. He went after the spiders along with harry in chamber of secrets even though he was deathly scared of spiders just for his friend Hermione. He stood on a broken leg and stood in front of Harry, facing the prisoner of askaban. He did so many things. He destroyed a horcrux. He was a pureblood yet became a "blood traitor", just to support his friend Harry. He went absolutely mad and tried to jinx Malfoy when he called Hermione a mudblood. He had actual, witty lines and not just cowardly expressions on his face like the movie portrayed. Yes, he didn't shine much. He was constantly overshadowed by The Boy Who Lived and the smartest witch of her time, but that doen't mean he wasn't a brave and good friend to Harry and Hermione.
