Impermanent loss is fine when it's just a little bit but it totally sucks if XRP goes 1000X. The absolute worst thing that could happen to an AMM investment is you wind up with a value exactly what you put in. Example you inject 1000XRP and $530, XRP goes up 10X so now you have 1xrp and $1054.70 because the AMM is trying to keep your investment in the pool at $1060. The AMM has sold most of all the XRP in the pool on the way up. But you got all those fees! If it's stable it's awesome, if it goes up in price you are better off loaning it out to make income. Personally I think AMM is fine once we have a high, stable price. Don't jump into an AMM without researching all that can happen to your tokens and your cash. (Not financial advice) Lewis is giving you more about the AMM than anyone else on youtube, but it really is not that simple.

Impermanent Loss is not a risk and definitely is not the biggest concern of AMM’s. I suggest people look into “Loss vs Rebalancing” LVR aka Arbitrage Extractable Value is where THE ACTUAL LOSS COMES FROM. The problem with Impermant loss is it doesn’t take into account anything that happens in between and is a poor benchmark. He’s wrong on so many things in this video XRPL is optimized for Volatility Harvesting Impermanent Loss is not a risk it’s an opportunity cost that is assumed you sold at the exact top which is unrealistic. It’s an potential opportunity cost. What everyone is forgetting about is that the LP token you receive from the XRP/RLUSD(ripple stablecoin) you would have a YIELD BEARING HYBRID STABLECOIN. 50:50 XRP/USD the flaw with AMM’s, it’s not where the price ends up at, it’s the amount of times the price diverges and then converges.

Please advise me if im wrong. Impermanent loss only happens when you unstaked your lp tokens. If say xrp goes up in value when we sell, the amount of xrp returned will be lesser. But it will be compensated by the additional amount of the second token. More say usdt is received. So, It balances out to the original amounts. So although you receive lesser xrp, you can straight away use the additional second token, ie usdt to buy more xrp, so both xrp and usdt amount can reset back to the original amounts you put in. Do advise me.

Only works if u have big money invested. the average person can risk $100 or less in today's environment. Trading cryptos first is vital to turn 100 to 200 than 500 and so on than later people can stake and earn interest once they develop enough capital to where staking makes sense.

Hopefully they provide data so you'll have an idea of potential yields based on average total value of the AMM, # of transactions, etc . I guess I understand why it balances out th XRP to USD ratio, but XRP is increasing in value while USD continues to depreciate so it's not a great trade-off, IMO, unless you have a lot of both, can invest a significant amount in a high traffic AMM, continue to hold some XRP & just using AMM as a way to diversify investments for passive gains.

My problem with AMM's is that what investigation I did, they try to keep a balance of $ value between whatever two assets you put in the pool. So in the example you used, I don't think you got the numbers right. It's going to try to keep equal dollar worth of XRP, and in USD. If one of those in the pair is going up in value a lot, it's going to continually decrease the amount in number of that asset in the pair while keeping the dollar value equal. So you'll automatically have less of the part going up in value. As XRP goes up, the AMM is going to actively sell you out it. Because unlike your example, it's not decreasing the amount of XRP by proportion, it's decreasing it by dollar value. You only break even for the very first adjustment, after that you lose worse and worse compared to just holding XRP and the dollars. To use your numbers, and simplify, if XRP was 1 dollar, and you had 100 XRP, and 100 Dollars, and then XRP in a moment in time went up to $100, it's going to sell you down to 50 XRP, and 5050 dollars, for a total value of $10,100. If XRP then went to $200 in the next cycle, you have HALF the amount in XRP coins that you used to, and you only realize half the gains. You'd lose $4950 compared to just holding the original 100 XRP and 100 USD. These AMM's only work if XRP value is somewhat stable. If you roll your fee earnings back into your investment, it would offset some of the losses, but you'd have to make a lot of fees to make it pencil. Am I wrong? Explain it to me.

I have held crypto, specifically XRP since 2017, met a young man in 2020 who had 250k XRP at the time. He told me he's going to sell out completely at 5 dollars. I asked him why you would sell everything getting only 1 million ish, after taxes you'd be nearly broke again. Why not buy diversify, and try to find coins that you can use to get monthly payments from as well as some coins that you can sell for cash and not touch your favorite coins for future investments

Absolutely ! My humble bag has done 5X+ which seems nice but I would never sell out for 4 figure gains when I can wait a little longer for 5, 6, 7 figure gains . Some people see big numbers & really over-estimate how far it will go, esp after taxes! Not to mention the cost of protecting it like using a trust, charity and/or LLC to reduce tax liability & the cost of paying someone to help with that. They think they're just gonna go cash out their 1-5 million & never work again 🤦🏻‍♀️ It is more complicated than that & I won't be touching a cent until I know exactly what I'm doing. Might take a little profit once XRP reaches $100 to set up the framework for taking more in the future but for me this was always intended to be a long term hold , to create my retirement & diversify gains/investments for passive income .

I'm not sure how you are correlating ... Yes, having a burn rate with a token of finite quality helps increase its value, especially if there are many transactions being done..but I'm not sure how this correlates to the concept of an AMM.... Think of an AMM like a form of staking. You're making your dollars and tokens available (liquidity) for others to use in transactions and you get paid a nominal amount for it being used. It's kinda of like banks paying interest rates for savings & bonds. As XRP is burned , the number of tokens you put in or have doesn't change, the value of them goes up. But as he explained that increased value is balanced out (in AMM) by converting/selling XRP to USD , so both assets in the liquidity pool remain balanced. In order to make any real money in AMM youd have to put in significant amounts, welllll over the $100 in the example. Especially since XRP will be going way up and as it does you lose tokens for USD (whose value is dropping) .(In AMM) That's that many fewer tokens you have to keep making gains on as the price goes up. Once XRP hits high stable values , you could potentially diversify some of it into staking or AMM to create various streams of passive income but really run the numbers and I wouldn't even consider doing it unless I had a lot more to work with & XRP was not expected to grow a ton more , bc right now with XRP on the verge of going to the moon, I would definitely not give any of them up to make a few cents here and there in an AMM and lose out on the increasing value of those XRP bc it got converted to fiat.

Hey Lewis, respect what you do! But your math is wrong please redo it with the dollar value (which it should be, example $100 worth of xrp - $100 worth of usd) not per coin. You will see that at the end you won’t have more cash than holding it as is. In amm you will only benefit from the fees not the value of the coins.

That’s a great question, and it can definitely be confusing! In many countries, exchanging one currency for another-like crypto to fiat or even crypto to crypto-can trigger a taxable event because it’s seen as “disposing” of an asset. I would not bet on it, because the "legal framework" may not include the retail investor. Ripple services institutions, the Bank of banks and governments. XRP was made for institutions. Hopefully those of us that owned our XRP before XRP was delisted (they have a snap-shot) will be grandfathered in. Just know when Brad, David, Monica, and Rosie speak, they are speaking to the institutional investors AKA Big Money and not us the retail. RLUSD will be issued by the central banks as a CBDC. We'll have wait and see.

Correct…unless you also provide the other pool pair (in this case dollars, or a dollar backed stable coin). In other words, if you provide $1000 worth of XRP + $1000 of Tether = no XRP will be sold = no tax event. If you only provide $1000 of XRP, $500 will remain XRP and the other half of your XRP will be traded for USD. This sale of $500 of XRP would be a taxable event.

It will be a liquidity pool. You invest $100 of XRP and $100 of RLUSD. But be careful, because you will be paid in LP token. What the value of a LP token will be is any bodies guess.

In your example, would the yield be in xrp or usd? Is the yield taxable when you earn it or when you claim it or both?

I'm not a total expert but I'd say when you claim it. As long as its invested or locked up in something it sits there & fluctuates, you can't directly spend it.. like an IRA.. but when you cash out you're basically selling/trading something for $$ you can spend, which then makes it taxable. Same with crypto holding, as long as it sits in a wallet or exchange, you're not taxed for it, until you sell/trade it for spendable USD, that's when you pay tax based the value you liquidate, take cash in hand, or put it into an account you can access for use/spending.

If Ripple gifted 38 billion XRP (the current escrow) to the US government and the US government passed a law (or sign an exacutive order) allowing Ripple to set the price of XRP at $10.000 (what it was created to do) then that woukd equal $38 trillion, which is all of the US debt......if this would even be possible, it's a no brainer!!!!!!!!!
