When spirituals battles were fought. When God's music sounded different than secular music. Getting on the alter. Tarrying until something happened. Calling on Jesus. All night shut - ins. Love these classic gems. These songs promoted Christ and the gospel message. So sad that so many songs today promote the "self" or the so called "haters" against the "self". The gospel message is and will always be the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This song does just that!
