One change? Easy. Either get Gats to emphasise the importance of ruck speed (and the 9 shipping it immediately), or getting a coach that believes in that philosophy.

One big change at organisational level club vs country I would recommend improving Medical care ( staff quality and numbers and equipment ) in the regions as what they have at the Vale and WRU level is million miles apart if we look from age grade all the way up to senior level … been there , worked as a head physio at the dragons and know the difference👍

Whilst I like the URC, I can't help but feel that an Anglo-Welsh league would be better for us. I would also suggest that in this scenario, we amend the 25 cap rule to allow players to play for Wales with less than 25 caps if they play for Welsh OR English clubs.

Hi Christian, your first question, about Warren Gatland should he stay I say yes every time I know I've said this before it's new team, so if Warren left it does not matter who coaches Wales we will still be in the same boat it's a new team the legends have gone and we got to start from scratch no matter who coaches us. You were saying about rugby collages big in Ireland and New Zealand, like you said only 3 in Wales, it not enough for a rugby nation. The cap rule needs to be looked at may be down to 10 caps ? ..... may be. The Wales team of 1999 great team I still like watching them games under Graham Henry beating South Africa by 10 points and that 1 point win over England. I do love watching old rugby the win against Scotland 2010 from 10 points down to winning by 7 points all with in 6 mins and one of my faves is Wales v England 2013 ( 30-3 ) what a win. As always great rugby review catch you soon Take care
@TheWelshSportsPodcast4 ай бұрын
Yeah I think that’s a good point Shaun. If he was to go we’re still in the same spot. Maybe a new coach could change things but it’s going to take time either way and he deserves a chance I guess. Depends how the autumn and 6 nations go I guess 🤔 Thanks as always mate. Next time I do one of these Chuck a question in. Always good to hear your opinion 👍🏼🏴

@davidlee554 ай бұрын
Definitely no one fix for Welsh rugby. 25 cap rule certainly isn't it. Joe Hawkins and Rhys Carre are the only players currently captured by that law. Young player of the future most certainly is Louie Hennessey. I reckon gats has looked at Hennessey and that may be one of the reasons hes moved him to 12. Would like to say completely agree on the second rows. Daf, Tshiunza, Davies, Teddy, Carter and Fender. Going to be a competitive place.
@TheWelshSportsPodcast4 ай бұрын
Yeah, definitely one fix isn’t gonna do it all. It’s going to take some more fundamental changes I think Yes, I’m good young players on the horizon. Let’s hope we can develop them into a real competitive team🏴
@Reecewgee4 ай бұрын
Hey bro, i agree about Thomas i feel like him at 12 like a Kiwi style second-five-eighth with Costelow at 10 would open up the playmaking possibilities which could remedy some of Costelow's shortcomings, might also remedy the issues we're having in the midfield currently... Crashball centre doesn't seem to be working for us. Doubt Gatland ever would go for it though as he doesn't seem to like kicking game much. What do others reckon?
@TheWelshSportsPodcast4 ай бұрын
I was always a massive fan of the crash ball centre, but I feel the game has moved on. Unless you’re a freak like Aki who can do it all I think you need multiple distributors to beat modern day defences I don’t think Gats will go with that though. The next option for me is Eddie James. You can do it a bit of everything and he looks really promising
@clivesilver4634 ай бұрын
Regan Grace looks to the manor born, and I would start him, Anscombe should start at 10 and I feel that from the second test Wales have turned a corner, and I have more self belief now than beforehand with so many quality players returning I feel we will beat Fiji and Australia.

in regards to an anglo welsh league i dont think it will happen in the near future because of the relegation system and none of the 4 regions can ever afford to be demoted to the championship although i agree i would personally love to see the ospreys compete and living in south england i could actually go to more games. my happiest memorys r watching the ospreys with my dad and this would just let me and loads of other fans down here watch so more matches live
@TheWelshSportsPodcast4 ай бұрын
Yeah that is a real interesting point and it does make things slightly more complicated. The only way they could get around it is if a team wants to get relegated they would have to work out someway where they reduce their funding and maybe give it to the other teams. Not sure how it would work, but I really hope it’s something that happens not too distant future
@StopTheRot4 ай бұрын
I think we need passion. Without relegation, part of the jeopardy and, therefore, emotion, is removed.

Interesting video Chris and alot of ideas aired Not in favour of the 25 cap rule myself Scotland haven't got a cap rule They just pick the national squad from all available players The WRU should operate a similar protocol .Reallyy the WRU like the IRU and SRU needs to just finance 2 of the regions with a competitive amount of money and give the other two regions less But give them 1st pick of the upcoming talent as a balance The idea of a Anglo- Welsh league im afraid is long gone at the highest levels It may work at Championship level teams If and it's a big IF they can secure a real tv contract
@TheWelshSportsPodcast4 ай бұрын
Yeah, that’s fair enough. To be honest though I don’t trust the WRU to get anything over the line properly at the moment. I’m really hoping this grand strategy that comes out changes that I do think the demand for the Anglo Welsh league is there though the amount of weak week out rivalry you’ll get just makes too much sense to me
@westy80654 ай бұрын
Hi Christian, my change i would like to implement is the rule for a player being held up over the line and a drop out is given, seems unfair on the attacking team!
@TheWelshSportsPodcast4 ай бұрын
Yeah, it does feel unfair. I’m not really sure they could do to rectify that though because they try to reduce the number of scrums. Maybe like a line out on the 22 or something ? I’m not sure to be honest

Hi mate, great video. For the schools Rugby there’s district U11’s my son just finished last season, some kids will be U10’s and play a year up which my son did, he has two years, the odd thing the Schools Rugby then stops “as in the Schools district” there’s then schools Rugby for U16’s not sure why they stop it for that big timeframe but it is what is is and we’ll lose a lot of good kids to football academies over that period. I also think an Anglo-Welsh league is the single thing which can save Welsh Rugby, we are in a very bad place with the Regions, if we have proper historic rivals I think it would get so more many people on board with the Regions, not to forget the RFU offered Wales 5 teams into their league and the WRU said no, 10 teams or no deal, just two years later we could only sustain have 5 professional Regions which lasted just a year and now we are left with 4 Regions, the WRU are their own worst enemy, if we don’t look at getting an Anglo-Welsh league soon I think it’s going to get worse, I was at both the Harlequins and Bath games atmosphere was amazing and the year before I was at the Bath game too, one not seen the atmosphere as good there apart from when we host our old rivals. It’s clear and obvious what needs to happen it’s just does the WRU have the vision to make these big calls. Cricket we are in a league with the English Football we are in with the English Varsity we are in with the English; it’s clear and obvious where we should be!
@TheWelshSportsPodcast4 ай бұрын
Hi mate. Thanks for that explanation. Ive had no experience with the schools system so I have no idea how it all works. Interesting like you said about that gap though that’s certainly a formative period where you would lose players to other sports and interests. The wisdom of the Union 😂 Yeah, agree with you completely about merging with the English league. I think it’s the only way possible to sustain things. Maybe even for both parties. That Harley Quinn‘s game was crazy. I’ve never been to a rugby atmosphere like that for a club game really it was amazing Yeah, interesting. You say about the five teams issue. I only found out that a couple of months ago when I was reading something. Travesty 😂

@@TheWelshSportsPodcast unfortunately Wales have been blessed with the players we’ve had, all the resources was pumped into the international side while grassroots and Regions took a back step. We can only hope the whole setup is more professional and money is spent wisely. Yeah the schools Rugby I will be honest is brutal for kids at U11 when kids are dropped in the selections every other week for 3 months it’s not nice but luckily my son got through but now he feels lost with no schools district Rugby for a few years. Enjoying your content mate, keep it up and I’ll continue to watch and like your continent 👍

Thank you mate. Very very kind of you to say. Yeah, I imagine that whole selection process is really difficult, especially at the young age if you don’t get selected. Always a lot of tales of nepotism and favouritism as well with the way the structure is set up 😬 Yeah, I really hope the new WRU board can figure things out and get us moving in the right direction. The fact that they managed to finally change the governance last year and taking some power away from the local clubs might hopefully bare fruit in the future.

@@TheWelshSportsPodcast I think nepotism and the WRU being insular is why we are where we are. While Ireland have been evolving we have been stagnant unfortunately
