My old man carried a Buck 110 on his belt for decades. Fortunately, we lived in an area where pulling it out at a cash register to clip a coupon didn't raise concerns 👍

I've noticed that knives made with more traditional looking materials like wood and brass, two handed opening knives and carrying it in a belt sheath all make the knife much more "friendly" to most people. Granted I do live in Montana where lots of people carry knives but I think the buck is still a friendly looking knife today because it looks like a "my grandpa carried that" type of knife.

I started out my knife addiction buying cold steel knives worried I would need to bust open a car window, baton wood logs, and start a fire way more often than I have. Now I buy knives based on how well they feel cutting apples and oranges, stripping wires, and they have to be a fidget toy. Otherwise I have my leatherman for most other small things and a truck full of dewalt tools when those aren’t big enough. Much happier

Back in early 2015 I was repairing a bi-level railcar. I was up on the second with a harness on, about to go up top. I swung around to the ladder and my foot slipped. The safety harness strap wrapped around my neck. I managed to get out my CRKT M21-12G and cut the line. It has been my knife of choice ever since. Best knife I have ever owned and I know I can trust it with my life.

My choice would be the Mora Garberg. The Scandi blade design has been around since before the age of the Vikings and we still use it today, because it works. A Mora knife is a jack-of-all-trades. It is not the best at anything, but it can do almost any job in a pinch. The Garberg is a sturdy, fixed blade with full tang so it should have all my bases covered.

Victorinox Electrician. I had that knife for 15 years, and it did all the cutting, reaming, screw-driving, wire stripping, and bottle opening I ever needed in that time. When I gave it away it still looked new. The two blades are great and compliment each other perfectly. If I needed one outdoor knife, I’d go Victorinox OH Trekker NS. Buck 110. For several reasons: 1) In some places, I'm limited to folders for EDC. I'm automatically limited to folders. And, I challenge anyone to find a tougher folder than the 110. It's all brass with wood scales, so the handle and mechanism are virtually indestructible. The point is the weakest point of the knife, which brings me to my next point. 2) I've dealt with Buck's warranty service on several occasions, and it's the best bar none. The only thing I can imagine ever breaking on the 110 is the blade. And, Buck will replace my blade for $10 if it ever does. Any issues with the handle or mechanism are free. So, as long as I don't lose it, I could potentially run the same 110 my entire life and never need to buy another knife.
@jaxrcexplorer4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I very much enjoyed the analogy of the Buck 110... one of my favorites, perhaps most favorite is the one my two sons had custom made for me with the S30V Satin blade, Blue Wood grips with nickle bolster, engraved for my birthday one year. And my favorite fixed blade, don't use it much either, is a custom Buck 119 420HC Chipflint blade, with brass guard/pummel and Iron Wood grips, with brown distressed leather sheath ... razor sharp from the factory and flawless in it's manufacture...BTW - just purchased a Morakniv Garberg Full Tang Fixed Blade Knife with Carbon Steel Blade, 4.3-Inch and I can't wait to get a grip on it... from all I've heard, it's a real pleasure to use and most utilitarian! Great reviews... Please keep us posted!

I carried a Buck 110 in a Nite Ize holster along with a pen light, a small curved mosquito clamp, a bite stick, trauma shears, a small lighter, a pen and a tourniquet for 23 years as part of my medical kit. As a paramedic with several missions as a first responder to aircraft incidents and rescue missions a good knife was crucial in almost every scenario. That Buck 110 served that purpose well. While working with EOD on gunnery range clean ups my Buck 110 was a secondary tool to my Kabar. When the Kabar was too large for certain tasks the Buck 110 filled in. Unfortunately, while trying to pry a "souvenir" off an old tank (target) I broke off the tip of the Buck. Heartbroken, I used a file to re-shape a tip but not as pointed as the original. I still use that Buck 110 (55 years later) and it serves as a vital part of my survival kit in my bug out bag. The primary blade is a Gerber Strongarm which has proven itself in spades. As a matter of fact it survived a "tag gauntlet" involving several You Tubers putting it through the ringer...total abuse with intentions of trying to break it. I love it so much I bought two of them, one black and one coyote brown. Depending on what color my backpack is determines which Strongarm I take. If I had to choose between the Gerber Strongarm and the Buck 110, I'd have to go with the Buck 110 which presently resides in a Hyde and Drink leather holster alongside a Leatherman Sidekick.

Full tang with black jigged G10 scales. If I could only have 1 knife it would be what I constructed. Hi. I'm over in the UK and we clearly have stricter knife laws which limits what we can legally carry every day without "good" reason. Essentially we are limited to friction folders/ slipjoint knives. My most recent edc knives are: The manly wasp - slipjoint, s30v steel, green g10 handle scales, deep carry pocket clip, £50 The Reel steel Luna heinnie Haynes edition - slipjoint, D2 steel, red g10 handle scales, deep carry pocket clip, £30 ( an addition I've added is a kwick fit thumb stud, allowing me to open this knife one handed). Really enjoying carrying and using both of these knives, would highly recommend, if looking for a good quality modern slipjoint. Would consider both of these in my top 5 UK legal carry knives that I own and a consideration for my one knife to carry for the rest of my life.

I also own a Spyderco Salt series Pacific model as I live in Hawai’i. I think the full serrated blade has many uses and it is very fast cutting rope

I have a lot of knives. I mean a lot. Inexpensive ones, expensive ones. All types of steels and blade shapes. Every time I buy a knife, I try it out with the intention of replacing the Recon 1, tanto. And every time, I end up going back to the Recon. Some people dislike the knife because they don't like Lynn Thompson. Some people dislike the knife for whatever reason. I have 6 of these knives in different styles. One of the things I use it for is to cut up very thick cardboard from appliance boxes. These are some of the thickest, strongest boxes you'll find. The Recon slices through them like butter. Some people might say a utility box cutter would be better suited for the job. I use those too. But there are times when my Recon will do a much better job. I keep my knives very very sharp so that helps. 🤙🏾

Man that's a hard one never thought to have one knife. I would say price, quality, foldness, deep pocket, warranty, toughness sharpness outofbox . I would say kershaw blur . But then my 9400 is my favorite once I put my own edge I like. Waiting on my hogue I just purchased to come in.that mat change my mind.

I'm all about folders but if it came down to I can only have one forever, it would have to be a fixed blade due I to the fact that I don't believe a single folder would last me the rest of my life. Well, maybe a cold steel would.

Before I even got to the end I was hoping to see the Buck 110. Of all the damn "super steel" knives from Benchmade, Cold Steel, Spyderco, USA Gerber and others I've collected over the years and wasted money on, that BOS 420HC is all you need. Ease of sharpening is the biggest thing for me now and that BOS 420HC takes a razor edge. I don't want to have a super steel sharpening session on the trail or at the campsite with a Worksharp pocket sharpener. So now all those super steel knives sit in a drawer and I rock the 110 in a pouch or an aluminum 110 drop point with a pocket clip from Copper and Clad. And I'm not an Uncle Randy (hat tip Pete - Cedric and Ada), I'm in my thirties. Plus mine represents Idaho with the Idaho state stamp on the blade.

Mine is the Spydiechef. I generally use the Spydiechef for everything from EDC task to bushcraft. I pair it with my machete or I could pair it with an axe and do whatever I need to in the bush.

My lifelong blade is the Benchmade Nimravus. 154CM Steel, drop point, no serrations. MOLLE sheath with belt loop, and I sewed on little "ears" at the base of the sheath so that I can attach thigh straps to lock on.

I haven't seen the whole video yet but I feel that most people in there everyday life, a solid folder knife will serve 99% of their needs. For me, the one knife for the rest of my life would be my boker kalashnikov spear point. Its light enough for every pant type, deep carry for those more discreet occasions, and quick deployment for emergencies. Ive made feather sticks, cut meat , veggies were a little difficult because its just a little to small but it gets it done.

Yeah i didn't like the feel of them. I got aftermarket scales in from AWT last week and it made a world of difference. There are a lot of companies making aftermarket scales and I'd recommend getting a set of scales

Initially I thought so too, based on others opinions and put off buying one for over 2 years. Now I own two them (standard and mini) and have a different opinion. The design concept was for a lightweight tough knife, which it is. Sure the scales flex but pop right back and I don't find it an issue at all. I like the blade profile and how slicey they are. It now ranks #3 on my extensive collection (207 and counting) of knives. If you haven't held one, do yourself a favor and check it out.

They flex, it's really not flimsy though. That flex keeps them from breaking.

@@stoutdog56 Right beside you there Stout. Over 150 in the lineup and in the past, my daily was a Mini Grip. LOVED that knife, but gave it to a friend. Regretted that for years after giving it away because I'm a Leftie. And, as a South Paw, an Ambi or purpose built Left Handed knife is my main focus. My Chris Reeve Small Sebenza Insingo Left Handed is my #1 and my Mini and standard Bugout's are #2 and #3. Something about the light weight coupled with handle and blade shape and that Benchmade Axis Lock are just a Grand Slam. Cheers! Zip~ p.s. I too am not bothered by the scale flex at all, but have been looking into a custom set of scales just to change up the appearance and not for handle rigidity.

Kabar Turok with linen micarta scales. Makes the knife super sweet. With the stock sheath it fits a number of roles. Combat, survival, hunting, utility. And the heat treat on the 1095 gives it a strong piercing tip and the ability to baton where bigger ,heavier knives would normally be chopping. It’s a medium survival knife A large combat utility knife Good camp knife And a large but not too heavy belt knife for long Treks hunting game. Maybe having to build a sled to drag your trophy out. With time and practice. Notching ,drilling, woodcraft. I hope it makes it on your show. I love mine.
