Hey Joseph, I got a question. I’m 55 years old. Would it be a wise decision to start investing and index funds I invest with Fidelity.
@ryanmartinage
@ryanmartinage 2 жыл бұрын
I hold 4 funds. VOO, SCHD, VNQ, and BND. Equity in VOO, Equity /dividend in SCHD, VNQ for stability/ added income from REITS, and BND for a solid low cost bond index. If things are more volatile, I put more in SCHD/VNQ or if on sale, I lean more into VOO. BND always gets a small % of all contributions. So far has been very solid for me.

@_itineraryguy
@_itineraryguy Жыл бұрын
Joseph let me know your thoughts on this one. I am currently able to invest 3k USD/month in this allocation. VTI - 15% (US) VOO - 15% (US) SCHD - 10% (US) FLIN - 10% (India) Low Expense Ratio FLCH - 10% (China) Low Expense Ratio BRKB - 10% (US) IAU - 10% (Gold) BSV + BND - 10% (Bonds) VNQ - 5% (Real estate) VGT - 5% (Tech, like qqq) Goal - I do not want to pick stocks in my 401k, making it totally passive. Also since this money is locked up it takes away the emotions of buying/selling/fear.

I look at the expense ratio as an overall rating on how efficiently the ETFs are managed. It has no impact on the dividend yield so I fail to see the over emphasis on this detail. As long as the expense ratio is within sector averages, you should also evaluate other more important criteria or your Investment goals then obsess over this small detail.

Question that has bouncing in my brain for a while. Why do ETFs have spreads on pricing? Shouldn't they essentially be lockstep with the underlying stocks and just buy and sell based on that derivative price?
@michaelwadleigh2374
@michaelwadleigh2374 2 жыл бұрын
Not many ETFs that track a fund (like the S&P) tracks the S&P identically. They may have their funds in the ETF picked based on what is in the S&P but for a different purpose, like SCHD is an ETF that tracks the S&P but does not have the same spread because it is built to produce dividends. Also, there are different management fees that drive the price of an ETF stock and how the ETF is managed. An example of management is how Vanguard sold a portion of their portfolio which generated a taxable event for every holder of that specific ETF. Many people who hold growth ETFs are not trying to increase their taxes, this could drive the ETF stock down through sales of people transferring to another ETF.

I wouldn’t invest anything in Canada. I’d eat some poutine and watch hockey though. When it comes to investing, America all the way.

Now THAT was a great video for beginners like myself. Quick and made total sense. What I would like to see in the future is ehat etfs should go in a retirement account for maximum growth excluding bonds for someone 15-20 years only left to compound those investments. I was thinking vgt and voo as a start point but it seems they both track tech heavily so I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thank you
@josephhogue
@josephhogue 2 жыл бұрын
Sure thing Fabiano. There will be some overlap with VGT and VOO since the S&P 500 has a lot of large cap tech in it. You might consider the VUG for growth along with a more inclusive index fund like the VT for the world market

@@josephhogue thank you very much! Is there a point in owning all 4? I ask because I bought voo and vgt (only 1 share of each) in my roth and im not sure if I can sell it without triggering some taxable event. Thanks so much for answering me

Again - Joe is right on the money ...“Consistently buy an S&P 500 low-cost index fund,” Warren Buffett (considered the world's best investor). If you can't pay the higher price - by the next best thing as Joseph suggests.
