Hey Joseph, I got a question. I’m 55 years old. Would it be a wise decision to start investing and index funds I invest with Fidelity.
@ryanmartinage2 жыл бұрын
I hold 4 funds. VOO, SCHD, VNQ, and BND. Equity in VOO, Equity /dividend in SCHD, VNQ for stability/ added income from REITS, and BND for a solid low cost bond index. If things are more volatile, I put more in SCHD/VNQ or if on sale, I lean more into VOO. BND always gets a small % of all contributions. So far has been very solid for me.

I hope you don't have this in a taxable account because the taxable events from REITs and Dividend ETFs like SCHD are abysmal.

Joseph let me know your thoughts on this one. I am currently able to invest 3k USD/month in this allocation. VTI - 15% (US) VOO - 15% (US) SCHD - 10% (US) FLIN - 10% (India) Low Expense Ratio FLCH - 10% (China) Low Expense Ratio BRKB - 10% (US) IAU - 10% (Gold) BSV + BND - 10% (Bonds) VNQ - 5% (Real estate) VGT - 5% (Tech, like qqq) Goal - I do not want to pick stocks in my 401k, making it totally passive. As long as the expense ratio is within sector averages, you should also evaluate other more important criteria or your Investment goals then obsess over this small detail.

Question that has bouncing in my brain for a while. Why do ETFs have spreads on pricing? Shouldn't they essentially be lockstep with the underlying stocks and just buy and sell based on that derivative price?
@michaelwadleigh23742 жыл бұрын
Not many ETFs that track a fund (like the S&P) tracks the S&P identically. They may have their funds in the ETF picked based on what is in the S&P but for a different purpose, like SCHD is an ETF that tracks the S&P but does not have the same spread because it is built to produce dividends. Also, there are different management fees that drive the price of an ETF stock and how the ETF is managed. An example of management is how Vanguard sold a portion of their portfolio which generated a taxable event for every holder of that specific ETF. Many people who hold growth ETFs are not trying to increase their taxes, this could drive the ETF stock down through sales of people transferring to another ETF.
