Outstanding info Richard. The smaller shank size of a #8 hook is less stress on the bait as well as just piercing the upper part of its mouth to let it 'breathe' easier while hooked. Also lengthening the line length from the split shot to the hook lets the shad swim more freely, which drives the crappie crazy.

Hey, Richard, another good un. You had the best fishin incentive today that there is, Mama Sue said she wanted some fish. When you said that, I knew you were gonna have a good day. Sure do appreciate all the tips and shared knowledge that you give us. You did the smart thing, weather comes up. It's much better to just get somewhere and sit it out. Especially in that flat bottom boat. God bless y'all and stay safe out on the water.

Evening Mr Richard Gene, You my friend aren't loosing much, if any. I just wish I could gain and retain the crappie knowlege you hold in half your pinky. Man o Man. I spent my first 19 yrs being drug around to Marine Bases all over So. Calif. Then Spent the next 16 years being a Soldier myself...(well cooking for them anyway, with all kinds of screwy hrs), then Drove a truck all over the country for an other 17 yrs before my knee and back said no more of this stuff. So Now I'm taking care of momma and fishin when I can...and when I can't, well here I am...You are the man my friend...

The rain reminds me of a time I was fishing on a dock at Monroe Lake in Indiana. The rain started, but I was catching some nice crappie. I went up to a shelter to wait out the rain. It didn't want to let up. So I remembered I had an umbrella in my truck, so I went and fetched it out...headed back to the dock, cast with my right hand. I held the umbrella under my left arm, held my rod and reel with my left hand, and reeled with my right. I kept catching fish in the rain. Hillarious to my friend who stayed at the shelter. Nice video to stir up some memories.

You don't realize how loud thunder is until you get caught out on a lake in a storm. Stayed out to long a few years back. Thought I had time to make it back, but a finger of the storm crossed the lake in between me and the boat ramp. Lightning was hitting the hillsides all around me. I had my ear pushed down against one shoulder and one hand on my other ear trying to drive the boat with my free hand. It was like I was in a war zone with bombs landing around me. The wind was so bad at the ramp the boat loaded onto the trailer half sideways leaning to one side, but I was just glad to still be alive to fish another day.
