When you started doing cross-genre recommendations, I started wondering why we don’t have fantasy/thriller books (to my knowledge). It’s probably because the world building/mystery building might be a little too much to cram into one book, but now I’m trying to stretch my brain to come up with an idea for one!

If you're looking for fantasy thrillers you should check out books by Bryan Camp. He wrote City of Lost Fortunes and Gather the Fortunes which are the first two books in a think a series, no positive there will be more books.

If you like detective stories, may I recommend the Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith. First one is Cuckoo's Calling, not the best book in the series but a solid start!

I’m actually reading The Giver with my son for school. Well online school we are in NYC and schools are closed indefinitely we don’t know when they will reopen. He is in fifth grade and I remember my daughter also reading it when she was in fifth grade about 3 years ago and she loved it. Hoping he does as well. Thanks for the recommendations 😊

I love this idea for recs! For wilderness-based thrillers, I'd recommend Bearskin by James A McLaughlin. It's pretty strange and slow paced, but I loved it when I read it and I feel like it went under the radar. I hope you feel better soon.

Deep dark secrets by Keri Beevis...WOW. Loved it. Came out in Jan 2020 but one of those books that i never hear anyone talk about and has gone under the radar. It deserves to get recognition before the end of 2020.

I hope you're feeling better soon! The book S has a similar vibe to Night Film in that it has a fictional creative (in this case an author) and their works at its core. And the mention of Pessl's book reminded me that her Special Topics in Calamity Physics has a similar feel to The Secret History. I also feel like Tana French's The Likeness fits in that general vibe in some ways.

Just read He Will Be My Ruin last night (before seeing this vid) and really enjoyed it. Liked A Monster Calls, LOVED Imaginary Friend and The Giver, hated the ending in Turn of the Key, and DNF’d Evelyn Hugo at 30%. Lock Every Door, Whisper Man, Last Time I Lied , The Family Upstairs, The Other People, Eight Perfect Murders, The One and Inspection are already on my TBR. Long Bright River by Liz Moore is a good sister vibes thriller. It’s about a woman who’s a cop discovers that there is a serial killer in her area right when her struggling addict sister goes missing. I very much enjoyed it!

A new book that is very comparable to Sadie is The Sun Down Motel! In The Sun Down Motel, we have two perspectives that are set in different times. One of the girls goes missing in 1982, the other is her niece who’s trying to find out what happened to her in 2017. Also, if you like the podcast thing, try Are You Sleeping?. This one is a series on Apple+ now, the show is called Truth be Told.

Another book I recommend with the nanny vibes is "The Ruining" by Anna Collomore. I read it 7 years ago, but I remember it being very intriguing, and I obviously still recall it when you mentioned the subject of being a nanny to a weird family of sorts. :)

When you talked about Since You’ve Been Gone it made me think of The Last Equation of Isaac Severy. I just finished that book and it wasn’t my favorite, but it was fairly well done and it was a quick read. It was definitely more on the mystery side of the genre though than thriller.

I love this! I have been wanting to read more mystery/thriller books. It's funny because I love crime shows like Criminal Minds, Bones, NCIS, etc but I rarely read books of the same nature. I tend to read a lot of Fantasy and some SCi-fi but I really want to get outside of that this year some. I have been wanting to try Lock Every Door, it seems really interesting. I keep seeing the Whisper Man on Book Outlet and have been tempted to pick it up, I may just have to put it on my next order.

Try sci-if thrillers first!!!! I would recommend John Marrs’ The One and The Passengers first. Then you can check out Blake Crouch’s Dark Matter and Recursion. Also, you can’t miss The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle! That is a masterpiece and a specimen of sci-fi/thriller/mystery crossover.

A group of friends reunite every year and this time one of them is murdered. You have to figure out who's the victim and who's the perpetrator. It's fun.

So for those that (especially) like "survival" type thrillers, you could check out Michael Koryta's Those Who Wish ME Dead. Story revolves around a 14-y boy who is witness to a murder and taken into a witness protection program. However, the two killers who are trying to find him, knows his identity and gets a wiff of him when the boy is enlisted into a "wilderness skills program" in the Montana mountains. Fast-paced with good characters.

Ooh I loved Night Film and actually do have the audiobook downloaded of Evelyn Hugo but when I started it I thought it did seem like could be really good but just wasn't in the mood for it but now you've made that comparison it's bumped it back up my list! Also interested in Eight Perfect Murders, I looked it up and it mentions in the description one of the murders is from A Secret History. Now that's one book I feel I am gonna love and have it but just haven't got to it yet. Incase I go for Eight Perfect Murders first, does it spoil it??
