As far as why someone who has been hurt will go to people who will hurt them is the known negatives in life are less frightening than the unknown. My sister ex husband didn't have a stable job, she married him, she had a stable job. After marriage he was talking about demolishing the old house and building a new house in those instead. While he had no money. She was supposed to do that all for him from her father's money and her's. Cause he got none. When my sister got pregnant, he refused to pay a single dime for child care. He was expecting her rich father to pay for his child's care. Can you imagine being with someone like that? That's why a person needs to have a job that can support his family, if you can't, don't marry and have kids. It's the power dynamic thing. Being with a rich man where he has more power, it makes you feel like you have no control over your own life and the other person. she might think she's being used etc. But with an average man, she is the one with power, the one with full control, she is controlling, demeaning, shaming him instead of the other way around.
