It's up to you to decide if you think I'm full of shit or not hahaha My KZbin analytics tell me my audience is 99% male, so lemme make an analogy to girls: Sure, dating around and experimenting can be good - especially early on. You gain more experience, you discover who you are, what you like, what you don't like... Though, eventually you obviously want to find someone you can commit to. Of course you wouldn't want to settle for someone you don't love; sometimes it's necessary to break things up. Most people don't find that perfect girl from day one, and that's okay! But the ones who do - usually live the happiest lives... ... And if you can manage more than 1 wife at once then damn, props to you 😆

I'm going down the same road as you do but I perceive it a bit differently - music comes from passion, from feelings, from an inner drive. you cannot "think" about it and "plan" your path! you'll be inspired, you'll be influenced, you'll be taking turns and you'll also be wasting time on less useful things (carreer-wise). but that's all part of the journey. what I think is the biggest mistake is being too self-convinced which shows in not referencing and watching too few courses and taking too few lessons. i think once you accept that life is a process of learning, you'll also accept that whenever we want to be good at sth, we have to dive deep in letting others teach us :) honestly if i would start producing again i'd do some courses right at the start!

This has been me for 25+ years. Starting out doing Ruffneck style Gabber in my early teens, then going to House, then Breakcore, then DnB, then Dub Techno, then Ambient, and kind of back to just proper techno. At this point, I almost feel like I missed my mark or any chance to being an artist worth mentioning. I've jumped all over the place. Do I regret it? Mostly No, I had a lot of fun experimenting with different styles. But, now that I'm almost 40, I do kind of wish I stuck to one direction.. Lately, I've invested a pretty sizable chunk of dosh into hardware (Elektron and Modular Synths). I had made a goal to build a live set (Working on some 140bpm Dub Techno shit. Love me some chord stabs!). Glad you found this out for yourself much earlier. 🫡

I literally just came from a composition class today at Juilliard (but yes, I love house music too and am a former house DJ) where my professor said something like genres are the biggest capitalist dream/trap/sham or something like that. But "capitalist" was definitely in there. Anyway, this is coming from a composer PhD at Juilliard, and he's like advocating throwing out the shackles of genres. Needless to say this got me to think. Then I saw your video here where you posed the question if you focused on one genre where would you be today? My first answer for you was "probably bored". I think it's awesome you love so many genres and have such a great background of experience. It's what will make you original, and what will keep you surprising to your listeners and to yourself. Keep it up! :)

Those deep and hypnotic techno tutorials got me following you in the first place. I like that style and would like to see you do that more. Atlhough I think there is not that much money to be made if you think choosing that as your career. I compose something similar myself but I come from completely different angle. I'm already over 40 and having been making my career in engineering. Music Is purely a hobby for me but of course there should be some goals in all of the things we do in life. My goal is to play in local venues my Digitakt composed live sets. I can relate to your points in a way that now as an older dude I see how much free time I had when I was a teenager. I can't be thinking how much I could have achieved in music by starting way earlier. Then again I'm glad that I'm doing it at the moment. And most importantly you should always find a joy and sense of exploration while creating music. Everything else will follow if you stay true to yourselve, or not. In the end you can still be glad that you created something, connected with some like minded people and had lots of fun in the process.

Do you play some instruments? Like guitar, keys or drums... I play music all my life and only after 20 years of struggling I decided finally learn guitar and become musician (not guitar player) Also I started be interested in electronic music for last 10+ years. And it is ok for me have some kind of balance between instrumenal and electronic. And balance between them is continiously changing. As a result I become better musician overall. And yeah, it is just a hobby instead of Netflix, beer etc...

The issue is we cant force ourselves to stick to one genre if our heart isnt in it & music without heart is usually trash. Theres lots of value in exploring & experimenting with other genres but career wise yes its wisest to stick to one genre & experiment in the background. You make great content btw

I think exploring genres while trying to make them is good, so you try out diffrent styles of sounddesign, arranging and all that stuff. But after some years it would be great to find a genre you really wanna focus on or even better you try to create ur own genre🙃

Yeah, I totally get this, the same thing happened to me. Actually, I think I just recently started to feel comfortable and visualize my identity and my sound as a producer and therefore I think I will be able to follow that straight line... But at the same time I think the problem you expose is a good and normal thing to happen, because it means that we are music fans first and we like many kinds of music. Cheers.

You wouldn't be the producer you are today without experimenting in those other genres. Is hindsight a bitch? Yes. But your experience gained from time in the studio / DAW is the real winner here. To any and all producers - there is no such thing as wasted time with music or anything you're doing in life. You win or you learn.
