I hope this area remains forever protected. I've had the privilege of flying in and out of some of these remote landing strips to spend several days hiking and camping in the wilderness. Some of the best memories of my life.

So much respect for Sen. Frank Church. Thanks for fighting to protect wild lands across the USA! RIP!
@matt123411 Жыл бұрын
Frank Church did nothing to protect forests. He started the Church Comittee in 1975 to address abuses by the NSA, CIA, FBI, and IRS. the committee was part of a series of investigations into intelligence abuses in 1975, dubbed the "Year of Intelligence", including its House counterpart, the Pike Committee, and the presidential Rockefeller Commission. The committee's efforts led to the establishment of the permanent US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.The most shocking revelations of the committee include Operation MKULTA involving the drugging and torture of unwitting US citizens as part of human experimentation on mind control; COINTELPRO involving the surveillance and infiltration of American political and civil-rights organizations; Family Jewels, a CIA program to covertly assassinate foreign leaders; Operation Mockingbird as a systematic propaganda campaign with domestic and foreign journalists operating as CIA assets and dozens of US news organizations providing cover for CIA activity. It also unearthed Project SHAMROCK in which the major telecommunications companies shared their traffic with the NSA (while officially confirming the existence of this signals intelligence agency to the public for the first time).

If you are out of state, I want to say welcome! You can move here if you want, and you can visit anytime! Don't listen to these terrible comments. Some Idahoans are so hostile. XD I'm from California, been here thirteen years, and i have never understood how some of these people are so hostile. The landscape and history are so amazing. Kinda wish they took better care of their ghost towns like Mackay, but it's an amazing place! Please see Craters of The Moon!

That's what sucks about being a traveler nowadays. Almost everywhere has been infested with annoying tourists (usually Americans & Asians). I can't imagine how awesome it was to be a traveler in the 19th century. Obviously you had to be an extremely rich European, but the world was so untouched back then.

I live in McCall ldaho a small community at 5300 feet elevation to the west of "the Church". Midas Gold has now contracted with the state, in exchange for restoring sections of the Salmon River destroyed by mining, to remove 5 million ounces of gold from the area. It will bring in much needed jobs to McCall where I live. I think making good deals with the companies to restore damaged habitat in exchange for responsible extraction of resources is a win-win for all.

Frank Church served Idaho until Steve Symms beat him in 1980. Not that it matters one Helluva lot. But I did grow up in Idaho and met Senator Church many times. I didn't agree with the man politically, but he was a man of supreme decency and character, and he would kick your ass in a debate over a bourbon and water. Great memories, and The Frank Church is a fitting testament to his struggles, (and ours), fighting Idaho Power and their dreams of turning The Snake into a bathtub of green dead water. Actually they did do a pretty good job of it, before we woke up in the early 70's.
@geomodelrailroader5 жыл бұрын
more then that Frank kept the liberals out those liberals in California and New England tried to steal our water and the Snake itself was at risk. The Snake is the life blood of Idaho if you drain it and steal our water we die there is nothing out here just desert. 100 years of Idaho will be lost if the liberals pump the Snake dry and good thing they did not. Frank Church, Don Evens, and Cecil Andrus said NO! all the people of Idaho said NO! all the governors from Andrus to Little said NO! and still they try every trick in the book to drive us out and steal our water. They poisoned it, they they tried to pump it, they tried to place a coal plant here (twice), and they did underground nuclear testing. We told them to clean it up Frank and the governors sent the EPA after them and it is being cleaned up. This is why the only way into the Frank is by air roads are prohibited, logging is prohibited, and anything man made is prohibited with the exception of planes. Frank fought for Idaho's rights that is why The Frank Church Wilderness and Preserve are named after him.
