Dr, Berg. Very helpful to go over these points. I find myself wanting coffee early am but no breakfast until 10am. Then I naturally want a meal at 3pm. Good to listen to ones' body. B1 does help me sleep better along with a dark room and an open window. Thanks for this video.

@DudeWheresMyCardz When that happens, try taking a homeopathic remedy called Aconitum 30C. Just one pellet, just once. When it happens. Keep the tube handy, with a pellet in the chamber, ready to go, so you don't have to turn the light on. Don't touch the pellet. Just tip it from the dispenser, directly under your tongue. Once it has touched your mucous membrane, you can either swallow the pellet or spit it out. The energy from the pellet is in you. No need to swallow even. I hope this helps. 🌿

Grandma always slept with her window open. Maybe just a little in the winter. She had wool blankets. I had many overnight visits with her when I was little and remember not being to sit up because of the heavy weight of the blankets, my nose being cold and hearing the sounds of the city outside.

I've been providing solo hospice care for someone and being too exhausted to sleep has been a real problem lately in combination of it always being interrupted sleep. Normally I'm a night owl so night time isn't the problem, but being forced to be up during the day without any sleep has been really killing me. Thank you for reminding me to try some deep breathing. I hope it starts helping.

@@mirsidorov5112 not sure what most of those acronyms are, but the real problem is having to get up every 1-3 hours to provide care/medicine and often involves heavy solo lifting. I typically take 1-2 hours to calm down and rest my muscles/bones enough to sleep so by the time I'm ready to doze off, it is time to get up again. I'm lucky if i get 2 hours of sleep a night/day lately unless I overdose on melatonin, which i typically refuse to do.

I use quite a few ways to help me fall asleep: exercise and light exposure during the day, cool and dark bedroom, no eating 1-2 hours before bed (and if I eat anything, then it's something light like yogurt and berries, or toast with almonds butter and banana), no screens before bed and drinking chamomile tea 2 hours before bedtime. A not-very-known light that helps me fall asleep is pink light - it's a really nice light to use in the bedroom before bed.

This video helped me realize that prior to my spinal cord injury, I really was "normal." All those things you mentioned plus a life full of compound trauma & I still slept well. At present, I'm almost 6 yrs. into zero REM sleep. My brain is constantly sparking & every specialists I've been to can't believe I'm still able to carry on a conversation. At 8 months into this H3LL...I was concerned I'd die of a brain aneurysm. Instead they told me that sleep deprivation would cause my demise & likely within a year. I've gone through 2 involuntary adaptations. I'm guessing it's my body's way of coping. The latest was almost 3 yrs. ago. The best way I can describe it is blanking-out...as someone who studied marine life, I compare it to how a dolphin is able to let one side of its brain rest whilst the other is fully functioning. I'm not afraid of death, nor am I suicidal. I see my doctor every month & speak to my pain counselor every Tuesday. All my conditions are/have been inoperable & each test points to my spine shifting like a Jenga puzzle being the culprit. The ONLY good that has stemmed from all this is that Work Comp, by order of a judge, was forced to agree it was their fault for refusing to operate on me when I was operable. I went through every agonizing & embarrassing test at the expense of W.C. The only thing nobody will do for me...even if I sign a waiver...is hit me in the head with a mallet, just enough so I can sleep. I'm truly that desperate. I take what I call quick naps....anywhere from 30-90 min. & if I get 2 a day, that's a good day indeed. I think my brain/body is trying to adapt again...I told my counselor about it today. Like I explained to her...I'm just too tired & feel a prisoner to this predicament more than I ever have. I do my best to stay positive by meditating, staying away from negative people/things, & living as fulfilled a lifestyle as my condition will allow. As someone who has always been useful & an advocator for survivors of compound trauma...my lack of sleep has made me into a pathetic shell of my former self. I'm not asking for pity...only that you be grateful for every hour of sleep you do receive. Blessings, ~ Covah

This happened to me once, when I had to work during the day and go to college at night. The doctor advised me to exercise, but didn't go into details like Dr. Berg. I couldn't believe it at the time, because I was too tired to exercise. He just said if you still can't sleep, come back to prescribe medicine. After I tried to exercise, my sleep got better and better.

I found that eating the last meal earlier in the day is a major positive factor for my ability to fall asleep. At least 4 hours before bed time is perfect for me. And following a bedtime hygiene regularly (such as bath with relaxing essential oils before bed, no blue light in bed, etc.) always ensure that I sleep well every night. As long as my hormones are not acting out. 😀

One more physical thing you can do that Dr Berg didn't mention and this is *even if you don't feel cold* ... Warm your feet thoroughly - so they're as warm as toast. It's a physiological fact that if you have more blood in your feet (the case when they're very warm) there's less in your brain and you will start to feel sleepy. I worked this out for myself years ago and it works. Getting into bed with medium to cold feet will take ages to warm up under the bed covers alone. You need to soak feet in a bowl of hot water first and/or use a hot water bottle.

Hi Dr. Berg, I love your informative videos. One thing in this video though. Plants only produce oxygen in the presence of light (photosynthesis), otherwise they use the same oxygen in the room as the occupants do. They would produce oxygen during the day but that would diffuse well before bedtime. Unless you sleep with the lights on, it is actually bad advice to have plants in a bedroom, except if it is well ventilated, which defeats the purpose of the plants in your example. No biggie, keep up the great work!

I had complications from the Phizer... Could not take a deep breath for about 18 months it felt like.. Had a ton of tests done and doctors could not figure out what was wrong with me. It felt as if the breath had just left me a few days after my first dose 18 months ago. I am a young man in my early 30s who exercises regularly but did also have some boughts of depression so I probably wasnt getting enough vitamin D to combat some of these problems. Anyways... I started taking large doses of Vitamin B1 the past few weeks and I've drastically improved. It feels like I'm a new person... I can think again, feel happier, more energy and I am finally getting some sleep again... Insanely amazing and so grateful. Hopefully it continues. Have also added L Arginine now to see what happens

Very good advice with lighting. I've been designing lighting systems in various buildings for decades. In my own house we have replaced the halogen lights with LEDs. The ones I selected change the color temperature, lower when dimmed. So, they give off a yellow light when dim and a bluer light when up high. It mimics the setting sun very nice. I see so many people putting in blue (high color temperature) LEDs because they say they like it "bright". All good during the day but not in the evening. Using different lights at different times of day works too. Cheers

I was given an Ambien Rx 15 years ago. Ugh, how do I get off of this? I can only imagine the damage it’s doing. I have not had “real natural” sleep forever. I have learned since that my hearing is off the chart sensitive. There are not instruments that measure how sensitive my hearing is. The ENT had never seen anything like it. So now I wear ear plugs and it’s awful. I wake up with migraines from the pressure. I’m at my wits end!

Ambien is usually prescribed for no more than 6 weeks and recommended for shorter periods of time, if possible. Your Doctor will need to taper you off the Ambien if you want to stop. Quitting Ambien when dependent can cause uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. The detox process involves gradually stepping down doses. Watch sleep videos on Dr Bergs channel and then decide the natural ways you will try to deal with the sleep thing.

As you age, low level pain and discomfort can keep you from being able to fully relax. My dad used to say that was how he could have coffee after dinner, sometimes he needed it just to feel well enough to sleep.🤷‍♀️

"If you go to bed at 10:00, eat your last meal at 5:00". I finish work at 5 😢 sometimes later. Constantly tired, never get enough water. Constant problems.

I have never really struggled to sleep in the past but over the last year I have had a few episodes where i haven't slept properly for up to several days. My doctor prescribed me some pretty awful tranquilliser/anti depressants which knocked me out and made me feel worse. However I have since started having an Ashwaghanda capsule at breakfast, have started running 5k regularly again and have been avoiding eating food after 7pm. So far so good as I'm sleeping really well again 🙏🤞

Few useful tips to get sleep at night: 1. Perform breathing exercises like pranayam. 2. Drink a cup of warm milk. 3. Wash your feet with cold water before going to bed. 4. Dont use mobile when in bed, instead read some useful books. 5. Avoid stress.

Sometime after 2017 I lost my ability to sleep. I no longer get that adenosine hit that signals bedtime. I think the longest time I was awake for was 3 days. When I do sleep, it's usually very light and I feel more exhausted on waking. I tried everything to try to fix it, absolutely NOTHING worked. Eventually I stumbled across a carefully measured supplement regimen that allows me some relief, but God forbid I get the dose wrong! I now try to keep to a strict bedtime routine: in bed when it's dark, or use blue light blocking glasses, up in time to look at the sunrise. No caffeine, no stress, no eating 6 hours before bed and DEFINITELY no acidic foods. The price of getting it wrong is a night of no sleep. Thanks Dr Berg!

Insomnia causes stress which inhibits sleep, causing more stress, anger and finally panic, making sleep impossible. To break a bad cycle of insomnia I've found nothing better than sleeping pills. After that there's a long period of weaning off the pills and slowly getting a good balance with excercise, food and rest again. Until some upheaval in life triggers the next cycle. Doesn't need to be big, just some uncontrollable events that cause a chain reaction. But then it's always so helpful when someone suggests camomile tea and a breathing excercise.

Currently I’m doing shift work. So I have to go to bed 4-8 hours before waking up to get ready for work. I eat after I get home from work. So I have to stop eating as far away as possible from my going to bed time. If I sit in my recliner I am out like a light! I can fall asleep lying under a tree outside faster than my own bed. I think nature has a lot to do with it and the fresh air. Doing shift work I can’t usually open my windows to sleep during the day if the temps get much higher than 75. It has to be cool for me to sleep. Can anyone else relate?

I get like that. So tired and yet can't sleep. So then I get mad. The longer it takes me to go to sleep, the angrier I get. The angrier I get, the harder it is to get to sleep.
