I'm bringing my latest recommendation for an economics book to read, this time in development economics. If you want to learn about poor countries, my best economics book recommendation is Under-Rewarded Efforts by Santiago Levy. #economics

Both added to my reading list. I haven't had any formal training in economics, but I do have a degree in engineering and I've studied some econ in my spare time so hopefully I'll be able to keep up!

Great video. I have been thinking about how economics can help to solve poverty especially in other countries. The manner in which you broke it down made it easier to understand and identify the issues are. I will be purchasing this book.

I loveeee the topics in this video. Currently reading Poor Economics to supplement my upper level Developmental economics course for my undergrad. A lot of what I’m taught you also go over and it’s fun to see it from a different perspective. Could you make a video on specifically what stats and math courses an undergrad should take for graduate school?

Solid video. I'm not an economist or a student but I'm very interested in learning how to utilize data in order to validate a business thesis. Would love any recommendations for a novice. Thanks!

Export led growth is a good model to get to upper middle income level but to become a developed country you need massive R&D and some amount of good luck. Case in point:- Thailand vs South Korea

Can you please make a video on job market paper for international students interested in development economics? I am a third year phd student in economics, moving into my fourth year in 1 month. I am completely stuck, I just do not know what interests me and I cannot decide on any topic or question.... initially I was interested in Child marriage but the country I want to work on has extensive work on it already and I cannot think of the contribution or new question that I could ask. I am getting extremely anxious and I have been very depressed since starting the PhD. I will complete my course requirements by May 2021 but after that I am stranded.

cutting your own pages? thats a thing? for what purpose or was it a manufacturing error?

Just a printing error. Not sure why, but there were a lot of pages that were not cut. Historically, that's how it was done! (See the Great Gatsby)

If you have an economist that everything in their life has gone well clear through getting a Ph.D. and becoming a professor. Vs. One that has struggled in life and things have always been a challenge. Both lived in the USA. Same scenario in another third-world country. Would they look at the same economic theories the same?

can we also say institutions also play a big part in the development of these underdeveloped countries be it judiciary, effective financial markets, enforcement agencies. This is the problem that persisited in India and pakistan/bangladesh. India has more or less come out of it on the other hand Pakistan/bangladesh are on the same path. These supply side measures are actually important to make society more capitalism oriented hence better productivity and less rule of those who are there just because of political connections(capitalists which are actually against capitalism for there own benefit). I think these factors like avaiablily of enforcement nd financial markets makes a pretty big change. May be that can be a reason for low productivity in Mexico

The funny part, not even one economist solved poverty in any country. The reason is simple, they read books rather than society.
