Just got around to watching this one; what a beautiful cover of a great old Dylan song. I’m 78 and this was my music when I was about Margot’s age, proof that classics like this are truly timeless. Oh Miss Margot, this song is another classic from Blood on the Tracks (1975). Excellent cover, Dylan is finally back here!

An original version, in which you make the song yours while staying inside Dylan's lyrics. Your phrasing directs us to their romantic meaning. This is one of his relationship's-over ballads--somewhat like Famous Blue Raincoat in theme. The narrator talks about replaying the past and has to mention Tangiers, an exotic location (Detroit or Bayeux too hick for this story...). Your guitarwork is just right, and you're adept, as always, in accenting key chords. The setting is important to you, as a pro musician, and you look relaxed with that great-sounding Gibson and sitting on road cases.

When doing covers, you always get compared to the original version. When doing Bob Dylan covers standards are raised to the level of imposible. I always felt that Bob is the measure of the upper limit, in the sense that "it can't be done better than that". Through the years I heard hundreds of attempts, even from well established singers. Only very few reached that level and perhaps surpassed it - if anyone might say that. The Byrds did this once or twice in the sixties, and we had to wait another half a century to see something similar. Congradulations, you have my full attention! That was smoking good!!! Hope to be able to see you on stage, sometime, somewhere....
