Halo Reach fucking blows man (for a Halo game). That multiplayer at the time was panned for the loadouts , bloom , armor lock , terrible design on DMR. Bungie was fully checked out on Reach , that story is as superficial as it gets, the multiplayer was stuffed with terrible looking forge maps and the multiplayer maps were recycled into the campaign itself. So many people love it because they grew up with it as their first Halo game (majority of Halo fans currently). Halo 2 / 3 are still God tier, 3 being the less ambitious younger brother of the two.

I just turned 40. SBMM ruins MM. I used to be able to carry my own. In H:I. Shots arnt allowed to land. Pull the trigger when sniper crosshairs are on OPs head? Shot wiffs for no reason. Get one shot with full shields from cross map next sec. Then get spawned killed several times in a row. The only guy on the other team allowed to get kills has insta-gib perfect aim around corners or the moment you step out of cover. No matyer where you are or where he is. Then get insta killed from nowhere by no one. All i want is firefight. Screw MP.

I think the main thing that kills mic chat in infinite is the lack of any postgame lobby or lobbys in general. Its hard to work up the motivation to talk to strangers if its impossible to find them again after our 10 minute interactions. Being able to find people and stick with them for games on end really bolstered the social aspect in ways not possible by modern "streamlined" games

It doesn't help when a lot of people just mute everyone by default because of the menus being so hard to navigate in-game. Muting a player who was on a loud, low-quality phone call was literally impossible for me to do mid-match.

I know your pain man. Halo isn’t what it used to be. Although 343 has been improving infinite and it is a lot better now, the franchise still has a ways to go before it reaches the heights of the bungie era, and hell, it probably will never reach them again. As for your current situation, I understand not being able to let go of your favorite franchise despite not liking it anymore, but sometimes, for the sake of our mental well being, we need to realize when it’s time to let go instead of sticking around hoping that one day things will be just as good as they were before. Been playing Halo since CE. I was 13 years old when it dropped. Theres some BEAUTIFUL Forge Campaign and Firefight maps that have come from it. For old fans, i feel like Halo may actually be great again.

The only thing I can bring myself to do anymore is custom games on halo infinite. Halo MCC is a ghost town lately. Infinite is way too sweaty, too many mechanics. I’m not a Reach guy. I really enjoyed the simple sandbox of the first 3 games. I don’t like loadouts, I don’t like armor abilities, I don’t like equipment. I use them, because sure they create opportunities for fun, but ultimately they just create such a sweaty space. I. Miss. Casual. Gaming.

The server issues are what killed my original drive to play infinite. And that is an issue that still is not fixed (supposedly working on it now). My games are decent playing solo, but when in a group it feels like im a frame or 2 behind servers, getting shot thru corners, blank melees, last shots not registering, cant feel when being shot till almost dead, ect. Yet having a 55-60% accuracy. Im hitting shots but still cant do well in grp vs solo. I play at least a bit each season and was happy to see things they added over time, most of the newest season is good. Except i am not thrilled about the replacing of BR with bandit evo. Its not a "get good" situation either as my accuracy has been even higher with bandit than BR. Its simply i come from the classic halo era (the good era) so to me the BR feels MORE like halo, i know CE was pistol. but 2-3 were my best Halo times & with BR. Infinite's BR has been best in a while (server issues and desync made it worse tho) Id rather 343 fixed desync & tweaked the BR a bit (projectile speed, how tight the 3 bullets are, range ect) Than simply replace it, Bandit has faster TTK, sounds bad and plays very boring. Halo has a certain feel to it, slower movement and strafe, long ttk, more floaty jumps ect. Gameplay that came to be as a result of being designed around controller to give halo its feel. I think with the recent jumps to pc, many MNK players took issue with those things along with the BR where burst weapons have always played better on controller in most games along with lack of recoil making use of even less MNK usual strengths over sticks. I think the move back to single fire shots with a faster TTK is a move 343 are doing to bring halo more into the PC style game play, And are sacrificing halos iconic feel to do so. which could alienate older console/controller players while still not being a major PC/MNK hit streamer viewed title they want. Halo deff has other issues but those are my to biggest currently.

I do think Call of Duty's success partially lead to the slow death of Halo. It really was the "Halo killer". After CoD4, Microsoft saw the cash flowing in for that and nudged Bungie to imitate it, and you could see some of that in Reach. It only got worse from there.

I never had a Xbox with online growing up. But this hits home with the Call of Duty franchise. The entire beginning feelings you expressed is how from COD4 till now are. I used to go to midnight releases with friends. Stay up till the sun comes up with friends playing multiplayer. After MW3 my passion started to decline with games not being excited. Here I am today not pre ordering the new MW3 (2023). I bought the newer MW2 (2022) and didn’t even load up the game. It almost seems having these live services games just gave excuses for devs to create half baked experiences at the start, only to be fixed a whole year later. I tend to stick to single player games now, but even with that I really don’t play. It’s nostalgic to think about how much I played, and how fun I had making memories with friends. Being that it’s only nostalgia, nothing will ever be the same. Good video! being able to be relatable without even talking about the same franchise.

I was stuck in that cycle a few years ago back when H5 was still being played. Sadly, it's only gotten worse with Infinite. The biggest flaw with Infinite though is 100% SBMM, coupled with the fact that 343 doesn't understand what a social playlist actually is. Just because people don't want to sweat doesn't mean that want to play fiesta/infection all day long. There's just no in between with the game, and even when you do grind rank it's still not fun because of the impossible to win games it will give you. I gave up on Halo Infinite before 2021 was even over because of this, and 2 years later it's still the same song and dance. 343 will never change or learn.

Sadly alas I'm solo playing infinite and my friends have lost all faith in 343i and their decisions, despite the fact the leadership causing those issues being removed. I really wanna believe and enjoy this thing. And the gutting of possible campaign dlc makes me worry they won't ever commit to a proper progression of a narrative. Happend in h4 Janus key arc, happened to the created arc h5, and is happening again with the iratus and cliffhanger at the end of infinite.

Halo always has been a social game. Open mic, staying in the same lobby, checking out armors and stats of your team before loading... And now, loading a game, having a good teammate and challenging enemy team, and with some luck, you stay 2 or 3 games with them, to never see them again.

I haven’t played Halo for as long as most others here, started to really sink my teeth into Halo when 4 was a year old. Me and my siblings would play Halo 4, then 3 like crazy. As soon as we got home, we’d rush to the Xbox to take the top right screen corner cause we thought that was better. I remember all of us yelling and laughing together, accusing each other of screen hopping and making random stuff in forge. I could go on for days. I got into Halo after its glory days but man, I think got close to touching it. Online was later, it was in the state that it’s in now. Super competitive and no mics, coming from playing with 3 other hyperactive siblings I just didn’t play multiplayer games at all because it was too jarring. Infinite had so much potential to bring halo back, but you know, Additionally most of my fun has come from my group of friends playing halo mods on MCC, more halo made by halo fans is what people have been excited for with Infinite's forge mode but why not just play Firefight sandtrap with the squad.

I have had an interesting history with halo. I never had an XBOX or Playstation as a kid, I only had a Wii and Game Cube. All the other "popular" kids were playing halo or Call of Duty. And I ended up hating halo because all of them would rub it in my face. Call me a loser for not playing "Adult games". Later on I started pc gaming when I got Minecraft in January of 2013. When I got to high school in 2017, I began to get a proper steam library. And I think in 2018 I started watching red vs blue. I now finally wanted to try Halo, I found out about Halo CE Custom Edition, "found" a copy and downloaded it. I fell in love with the game. I loved the combat, I loved the story, I loved how fair it was. Sadly, most of my friends were less entertained. Then 343 announced that MCC was coming to pc in late 2019. I was contemplating getting a switch or a new pc. I chose the pc, built it myself in march of 2020. I would finally play a valid halo game on the 26th of June 2020 at 7:04pm. Over the next year and a half my time on steam would be dominated by TF2, Halo MCC, and Payday 2. The MCC almost came close to beating tf2 as my most played game on steam. Then came Halo Infinite, I was beyond hyped for this game. I played the flights and got a few of my friends to play. The game came out and I loved it. But we all know what happened. The content drought. Even with the content drought, I never really stopped playing. I'm not playing as much as a used to because I'm now back in school but I still love the game. It has the best core gameplay and thats what I care about the most. You can say that 343 will never make a good halo game because they will always mess up the launch. But a bad launch doesnt define a game forever. Right now, Halo Infinite almost has the most hours on my steam account. Only 11.5 hours behind TF2. Believe me, Im not a shill for the game. Often I fantasize about going back in time a punching the guy who came up with the coatings system as hes pitching it. I hate that system so much. But the game has done good things as well, like almost completely get rid of FoMO. I guess I just want to say, I never got to experience the true highs of the bungie days as so many people describe them, but I still love all the older games, and I love Halo Infinite.

I appreciate the comment, everyone has a different story as to how they came about Halo. I do like the gameplay of Infinite (always have), but it's still plagued with the desync and packet loss issues. Not to mention 343s stubbornness or slow progress with patching issues (I'm thinking about comp issues such as mangler 1 shot beatdown, reducing frequency of mangler spawning into the map, etc)

As good as infinite is getting their are still fundamental philosophical issues with how 343 thinks the game should be that DO NOT work with making a good Halo game. Yes 343 has been making good strides in fixing some of the more in your face issues, but after season 5 it's somewhat clear that those fundamental philosophical issues have not been addressed. And i don't think they ever will be addressed, not because 343 isn't listening but because video game dogma (and your maybe looking at Kiel, Nintendo and a handful of indie devs that do not fall in line) do not think that complaints are valid. 343 can make a great Halo game, but their need to be a shift in the philosophical ideas of games first but for now the entire industry is pushing against it saying NO.

I’m a huge fan of halo but infinite taking this long to get the ball rolling with basic stuff just blows tbh. These days I just log on the mcc Thursday and weekends. That’s when people decide to make invasion lobbies on CGB and they are still so fun. There’s actual strategy and coordination among players, gets pretty intense. But if you’re feeling burnt out try taking a break throughout the week and go all in on weekends.

Multi-player can sometimes bring joy, and sometimes break your heart completely, since you're more a multi-player enjoyer since your friends play halo you had the chance to feel something that cannot be described, only to lose that in the newer games, I'm a campaign guy and so far I wasn't super disappointed by the newer halo games(of course never played halo 5 cause I'm a pc player) and halo infinite definitely is awesome, love it, but obviously the joy and heart break appeared here as well, I had joy up until halo infinite then a heart break when the devs working on the dlcs were fired, knowing that no dlc will come I am now very sad

343i is just another cog in the gaming wheel bound to metrics and player data. No real vision beyond that. They released the game thinking they could turn legacy playlists into live service content for crying out loud. Perhaps all the shake ups can get them outta the rut and get some people with clear vision. The industry as a whole is suffering under the same problems that Halo is, so at least we can say that’s not unique to just Halo. It’s just harder because Halo does have such a distinctive legacy, so your videos point rings true.

Halo was always at the forefront of games for me but curiously the whole series has been on break for me. Could be because not many of my friends play, but I do remember when MCC had it's updates on PC and Infinite first came out and I couldn't get enough of either of them. Now it's been hard for me to pick it up and stick with it. I almost completely stopped playing Infinite, and it's recent season updates only left me feeling like "yep, this is Infinite", while MCC I might boot up for a game or two every so often then drop again for months. I always gotta ask, what happened? Did I just miss playing these games on Xbox and finally got my fill when they came to PC? Are they just outdated compared to the wider range of games available now? Did I grow out of FPS's in general? Or is it simply because the community seems silent and "dead"? Idk what it is, but the magic seems gone and all we got now are a set of games in our library that we can use simply to pass the time.

i have same feeling to hole gaming industry. Microtransactions, season passes, broken games at launch, masive patches. Remember when we could unlock characters/skins/weapons/vehicles etc. by completing some missions/games/challanges? What about cheat codes? They were awsome to jerking around and have fun by playing games. I'm 36 years old and I respect my money and I vote with my wallet. I play HALO Infinite from the beta and I didn't by any single item from the shop.

When halo infinite came out and it was unfinished, I thought there was a small vhance for something that seems a little more possible with every passing season. Halo Infinite could be the Gary's Mod of Halo. Right now, halo is content rich. But it's still got like another 20- 35% to go. If they fix custom games, let us load in with friends... we may have a level of sick customs lile what became of OG stsrcraft or unreal 2004. With the campaign AI, it's almolst there, but useless until they fix customs and dsynch. They're bringing in community maps, thats huge man.

I will always love Halo, The memories. With many people that I don't have with me. But yet here I'd agree We want to love Infinite. I am having a fun time with Infinite but sometimes a bit frustrated with somethings the new management needs to improve on and fix. I enjoy the new management. I want to trust them but. They have a long way to go if they ever want Halo back to the king of FPS and for everyone. Halo is for everyone. For the people who enjoy a lot of what the classic games had to offer. We know Halo could become on what we want it to be. Though I doubt it honestly. I will keep on playing or move on from Halo at some point. Not right now. Time will tell. This is what I have to say with the new changes. They are being more transparent with the community fixing and adding the content the best they can. The old 343 never could had done that. Don't make a girl a promise. If you know you can't keep it. Like I said they still have things to fix and work upon but time will tell if it will ever happen. I am yet thankful for the Bungie and 343 Industries Halo games. We dislike/hate some stuff from both of the developers that worked on the franchise. But in the end of the day. In General: If you're there for the single-player/multi-player/machinima/lore/fun time with the boys... We all love Halo. Thank you.

I haven’t played since about late 2021 moved on to soulsborne games till 3 months ago I replayed halo 1-3 on legendary and saw you and mintblitz news on the new season and it’s actually been a lot of fun again I haven’t seen the new maps or nothing but I instantly ran to tactical slayer so rip my fun😂😂😂

Took the words out of my mouth man. It sucks watching this franchise (among many other things) fall to the pursuit of making $$$ the passion feels gone for the most part. Maybe I'm just old? Maybe we need someone to make a $15 version of Halo like the Battlebit to Battlefield kinda' deal. Where my nostalgia won't be found on the store's microtransactions and different varieties of colors wouldn't cost more than a full priced game.

I don't think the game will ever grow. It's too late. It might bring Halo fans back to playing and player count will go up. But it's not going to bring in new fans or the wider gaming audience until the next AAA Halo release. We can only hope they release a finished game next time

I'm relatively new to Halo, and I do wanna play the game, but I'm not good at it and it keeps throwing me into matches I can't win. In a streak. Hoping PVE helps that.

Yeah the problem is that with the population low the only people that still play are Halo fans that have been playing for 15 years. Tough time to try getting into it as a new player. Firefight should be fun for you though

Honestl if they just add one feautre, game lobbys, then the game could be a lot more fun. Halo was always a social experience for me. Ive made hundreds of friends on 3 and reach. But since 343 took over the social aspect of halo is just gone.

its hard to explain but aiming (console/controller) and movement (pc and console/controller) in this game feels heavy and clunky? and just wish it was a bit more fluid as someone who grew up with every series of xbox i just cant play this one on controller plus de sync even with Ethernet is unbearable

I completely agree with you . I absolutely love halo mcc because it has endless replay value . The Mp is perfect , incredible maps , I can sink hours into an incredible story across all 6 titles . Fire fight and custom games just provide endless replayability. My problem with infinite is that it doesn’t feel infinite . Yes that was cliche but the game feels so bland and empty . I often get online , play 2 rounds then turn it off . I haven’t even been able to enjoy the campaign because it’s just an empty open world rather than fully fleshed out individual levels . Every encounter with the covenant/banished is walk in a room, shoot them, go to next room it’s just so Boring . On the bright side , graphics are good , sound design is very crisp , and the gunplay is the best/most modern in the franchise but it just pales in comparison to the mcc . Halo and battlefield 4 are the only Multiplayer games I even play anymore these days

I re-installed the game for season 5 but everything is so unsatisfying. The progress system, the majority of customization options being ugly and cringe, the store, the grind you got to go through for literally EVERYTHING...

I hear you, I feel the same agony and desires for things to be as they were.. The Awe we all felt. I played Halo 5 Warzone FireFight forever until I jumped into Destiny because waiting for the next halo took too long.. And then Destiny 2 dumpster fires started.. And then Halo infinite dropped.. Infinite has gotten better but still has yet to deliver promises stated at launch. The community is making Infinite better because of capabilities released in forge.. I'd like to be recognized, WE'RE Making Infinite Better!! But, we're also a feeder for content the Devs can use or not use to make the game better. Right? Either way, I too was hoping for Under Promising and Over Delivering... and as you said... 343 just doesn't work to make that happen. That was the Young Bungie... I'm not telling you what you should do but I know the dull pain that comes with playing a game that's a husk, a poor imitation of what we once had. Even if it didn't release in decent condition, it's still a complete Halo game, /with/ a personality. The vehicles and movement feel weighty. Like they should. Not like the balloons held down by static electricity in Infinite. Call in some reqs! Drive a ghost around (or any of the redesigned covenant vehicles that look *WAY* effing cooler than they did before [from a modern design standpoint], and are *WAY* more visually interesting than the banished designs [The Halo Infinite plasma pistol is a model port from H5, and while it doesn't fit there, it's still sick looking, _fight me_ ]) But yeah! This is coming from, 'Started with Halo CE, when Halo 3 was out, on Legendary, with look speed ten because I knew it would pay off eventually, at 6 years old' In the absence of Bungie's proper Halos, and the mobile-app-•ss, soulless menu design of MCC, Halo 5, funnily enough, is the last _active_ place that I can scratch that itch. DON'T PLAY GAMES YOU DON'T LIKE! That's your main problem, not how Halo is doing. Thankfully you seem to maybe have realised this. Like, it seems like a lot of people are more concerned with yearning for the Halo 3 era of gaming, and are bitter that the world isn't like that anymore, and that their favorite game isn't dominating the industry. It's really weird. AAA-games are deeply corporatist capitalist things that only get funding because some suits thing they can make a lot of money (just like movies). Yeah, sometimes they make stuff that we like, but to them the main goal is profit. So don't carry water for big corporations by getting *that* deep into a fandom. I assure you, corporations do not care about you. Yeah, have fun with it (I certainly have fun with Halo, at least some of them), but don't make that shit your identity. That's just toxic. I've been a pretty big Halo fan for most of my life (esp. CE, Reach, and yes even 4), but when I saw the trailers for Halo 5 I realised that they simply hadn't made a Halo game that appealed to people like me. So not only did I skip Halo 5, I skipped that entire Xbox generation. Things change, games change, maybe into something you don't. That's just the way of the world. I suppose it was easier for me to accept since it already happened with me with several game series, notably: with Unreal Tournament. I *loved* Unreal Tournament 2004 and played it long into the late oughts. However, no other games in the series was quite that good and eventually they killed it off. Things like this happens. If you tie your identity too much into a single thing you're just going to end up bitter. Game releases a lighting in a bottle for many reasons, both because of the gaming culture at large, because how hard it is it to make games (only gotten worse with time) and having a certain set of people with specific taste and talent in a studio. I'd say that the Bungie people loved stopped existing immediately after they handed Halo to 343 (which happened during Reach). In part because many Bungie people joined 343. Anyway, personally I've played the shit out of Infinite because I *actually really like it*. The Infinite iteration of BTB just really hit the spot for me (though, Squad Battle is cool too). So I've played it a lot, *because I liked it*, and the enjoyment I got was way more than the problems with the game *for me*. But if I didn't like it? Well, I'd stop playing it immediately. Probably go back to MCC (which I"ve also had tons of fun with, shoutout to anyone playing CE BTB customs!). Sometimes you like the games in your favorite franchise, sometimes you don't. Who knows, maybe I'll end up hating whatever comes after Infinite. Oh well, then I'll play something else. I was originally going to sort of defend 343 on some things, but ultimately it doesn't really matter. As far as gaming goes the only thing that matters is this: play games you actually enjoy, and for the love of all good in the world: *don't* play things you don't enjoy.

It pains me to see fans of the franchise proclaim Infinite as the series's best, when 343 has yet to even attempt a map like Sandtrap with it's drivable mobile bases. Wacky and/or scenario driven maps are as quintessential to Halo as grenade jumping, which was confirmed by a former Halo dev to be an intentional addition, and which 343 gimped to the point of being functionally useless. 343's Halo's all feel sterile and flat in most regards, to me.

I love and hate this game so soooooo much. I had the most unbelievable thing happen to me this morning... the matchmaking actually put me in with people around my skill level on btb and I had a good time, not sweating my nutsack off just to go 8 and 25. Lol granted, I just got in vehicles the entire time, like the ghost, wraith, and wasp, but still. Even gunfights weren't overly frustrating. Then the next hour I decided to play I of course get punished and every asshole on the planet had to be matched with me and none of the guns would do their fuckin jobs. Because why would a rocket right next to your feet or hitting the side of your open vehicle blow you up? Then to get spawn trapped by a wasp and there are no antivehicle weapons around, and even if none would suffice, partly due to them saying fuck having consistent weapon pad placements across games. Or spawning me right around corners, or directly in front of people and I get no time to react nor do I have a decent ranged weapon to fight 1 person off let alone 2. Or I spawn and immediately get ran over or gunned down by a ghost or hog on rats nest is probably the most exemplary of their shitshow spawn system and placement.

Never played Arkahm knight, but Cyberpunk 2077 on PC was definitely more playable than MCC at launch. Although I didn't play on last gen consoles. Cyberpunk might've been worse on the ps4/xbox one

Frankly don't know what more can happen before anyone thats against current halo changes their minds. The haters got everyone to blame for halo infinite being in the current state fired. Everything they originally asked for they got and it still wasn't enough. You can't have any conversation around the game without 100 basement dwellers telling you that not only are you stupid but also evil for daring to have even a neutral opinion on the game. Just look in these comments if you don't believe me. 343 didn't make halo toxic. The community did. Thats on us. Maybe we need to ask "what could we have done to make things better?" Did anybody in the community in the last ten years do anything to help 343i? Where are the generation of halo players that went to work at 343 to make the game better? They don't exist. At the end of the day it was the community's greed and the community's ego that did just as much damage to halo as the bad leadership from Microsoft. I think this video is spot on, i do think its a bit of a bleak outlook though. Maybe it's the hopium but im finally looking forward to the future of halo. Im actually excited to play everyday. It has a lot of problems but also alot going for it. I hope they continue to support it because it's honestly what i had hoped for when it launched now. I mean the store fuckin sucks but what can you do. I really wish they didn't make it f2p :/ i have a feeling they're gonna support it for awhile like what call of duty does for warzone. They're gonna make a new campaign in a few years but it will be standalone. Infinite will be the multiplayer that keeps getting updated. At least I hope, it too me really does feel like the classic halo I grew up on but more modern (including the positives and negatives of modern halo). Its clear to me 343 really fuckin dropped the ball but they are committed to making the fans happy (or at least trying too, and also pleasing daddy Microsoft lol). I mean i got my girlfriend playing it eho doesn't like shooting games at all and shes been enjoying it.
