I didn't know anything about this accident and had assumed the first flight where MCAS activated was the accident flight. I was utterly flabbergasted to learn that the aircraft wasn't immediately grounded for a thorough technical investigation, but instead flew (and crashed) the next day.
@MentourPilot5 сағат бұрын
Yep, there is a lot of things people didn’t know about this flight
@dalgrim4 сағат бұрын
yeah, this pretty much proves that while MCAS was a contributing factor, pilot error and failure to follow trim runaway memory items, Which is only 4 or 6 items depending on the result of item 4, was the primary cause. There is even a small fold out handle built into the trim wheel to get better leverage when trimming it manually. In both MAX crashes the pilots both turned back on the electric stab trim which is expressly prohibited after a trim runaway. Memory Item 6: STAB TRIM CUTOUT switches (both)................................................CUTOUT

MCAS issues aside, this story clearly shows the difference between good and average pilots. I really believe that pilots should never be simply "good enough". There are lots of occupations in the world that will forgive mediocracy, flying whether for fun or professionally is not one of them. Having said that Boeing acted disgracefully. Thank you for this Petter, I've been waiting for this one. An excellent publication as always.

@danielch66625 сағат бұрын
Sorry to be so blunt, but I call BS on that. I don't know how you fly, but I buy my tickets months in advance, with absolutely no idea who is going to fly the plane. When I show up for my flight, I rely on the regulatory agencies pressuring the airlines to ensure that their pilots are all properly qualified and licensed. That is, literally, simply "good enough" by definition. For if they were not "good enough", they would not have qualified and would not have a license. If their standards fell below "good enough", they would lose their license. That is all I do. All that I can do. How do you ensure that the pilots on the planes you fly in are all good pilots, and not average or simply "good enough"? Do you get back off the plane if the pilot arrived late after all the passengers boarded, and you decide he is "just average"? Just how do you figure out which pilot is good and which ones are not? How do you rank them? And have you considered how _average_ works? By definition, half of all pilots are below average. They just HAVE to be. 😊
@dominikobora53855 сағат бұрын
How is possible when one of the biggest factors is experience? That would start a chicken and the egg dilemma which would result in almost no new pilots.

Thank you to you and your production team for such a thorough analysis! I’ve been following your channel for a couple years but only recently joined your Patreon, and I only wish I had joined sooner. Thank you for sharing this with us early so we could review and refine it. I must’ve watched this 6 times already! On a technical note, I’m glad you mentioned the part about transponders. This was misunderstood by the crew and ATC for Aeroperu flight 603 in 1996, and it got them into deeper trouble. They thought they were at 10,000ft, and ATC “confirmed” this, but in reality they were dangerously low over the ocean. ATC was only seeing the altitude being reported by the transponder, which was getting faulty data from the ADIRUs. Sounds like this functionality was still misunderstood 22 years later.
