Spent my first 8 weeks in residency on a surgical unit with a preceptor who had only been a nurse for a year and a half. It was an environment where I would get so overwhelmed I would throw up in the break room at least once a shift. Switched to a gen med unit with an experienced nurse preceptor and it's like night and day. I'm doing so much better and am so much more confident. The spiriling and anxiety attacks stopped. The preceptor makes all the difference.

I’m newly licensed, and I just came across your KZbin channel last week. I just passed NCLEX last week, and I got hired for a Med Surg unit. I’ve been looking at your videos non stop, and I have gained so much insight on how to prepare for my nurse residency program. Thank you so much!
@linneaweilacher61682 жыл бұрын
1. Keep a journal 2. Ask for feedback / clarification 3. Documentation form completed each shift, asking, details and specific examples 4. Follow up with an email regarding any and all feedback... Thank you for the feedback. Per our conversation... 5. Stand up for yourself - Don't allow anyone to bully you.

omg Kendra! Facts facts facts facts its such a blessing I found your channel. I'm late to the nursing journey and jumping hoops to finalize my position as a RN. Life happens and I took a year after graduation to attend family matters; July2022 I finally wrote the NCLEX on 1st attempt & passed - I'm still waiting for registration and now wondering "am I prepared? Is this organization worth my fight to continue? I'm amazed at all the grey areas nurses' go through and still face that appears just. I too believe in hands on experience to build nursing character and overall competence. I appreciate your videos on so many levels which is so motivating. I got here through watching 'Nursing is toxic' and immediately I felt the need to push through and don't give up. Advocacy in nursing is not being taught to its full capacity but only textbook covered understanding. The (fear of) speaking up for self is so not taught which is a practical need to combat workplace bullying (I feel). A change in nursing is warranted; esp. the union between nurses... I just don't understand the catty-ness, I don't want to believe its just too much women (estrogen) levels and everyday stress. Its all about habits learnt and carried forward... idk smh anyhow, sorry for the novel I just wrote but I wanted to say Thank you for sharing honest content that is so useful and necessary...👋👌🙌♥💯#Nurses & #Solidarity 👊🤜🤛✊🤝

I got fired from my first nursing job and it was a little bit discouraging at first but now I have an even better job, with better pay and a much better environment! If anyone on here ends up getting fired from their first nursing job, just know it's not the end of the world by any means. Yes it is discouraging because it feels like "Wow, I made it all through nursing school and passed my boards only to be fired from my first job." but looking back, the environment was definitely not the right environment for a new grad like me. Very toxic and draining. I dreaded going to work! But now I feel like I have found my home in the hospital I am in currently.

Ms. Kendra i am listening to every words you are saying and the reason is when i did my CNA clinical i was unaware how to chart properly and my intstructor sat me down once for 5 mins to go over charting & that was it, she never went over it again .. so what I'm saying is sometimes you only grt to learn something ONCE from the prof and they expect you to understand it ofc..i still wasntt able to get a good grade i passed with a C & was devastated! 😢 now in RN school and know how important everything is and yes you need to keep a record of EVERYTHING absolutely! during clinicals it is so imperative... I really regret not charting as much and not asking alott of questions when certain thing was off .. now i know not to let fear get the best of me and im open to learning and doing more skills in the future❤

Hello Kendra! I’m trying to watch a video on basic nursing skill on KZbin when your vlog popped up. I’m foreign educated nurse and I just passed the board examination, I wanted to have hands experience so I got a job on med/surg unit. Everything was totally different and I felt like a total novice. I was reported by my preceptor that I knew nothing and I was layoff I cried my eye out and felt so worthless,hopeless and loose all the confidence and enthusiasm I had before.

My fellow nurse! Can I just say that I love you! Everything that you are saying, I have taught my mentees! They thought I was being strict on them but it is out of love and that I don’t want them to go throw what I have been through. Upper management does not like when a nurse, especially of color being a self advocate and holding them accountable for lack of leadership! I document everything! It was not a mistake that you randomly appeared on my algorithm. This was on time and meant to be.

@julissarosado80412 жыл бұрын
Yes, I live by this, there's no way you can store up all of that info in such a short spanse of time. It saved me as I had 2 total dependant boys with mini vents and G tubes with Oxygen and med admn. The other nurse tried to set me up and told the patients mom that I had not administered the seizure med to one of the boys They observed the patient to see if he was going to have a seizure. My clinical manager called me and asked me directly and I said let me check, if I wrote it I did it. It was written. I was cleared. The other nurse just wanted my shifts because it was a super high pay. I gladly left and stayed with 1:1 patients. No skin off of my apple, I'm not greedy.

When you have a disagreement with your boss, email him/ her and document how you both agreed to resolve the problem ( this is called evidence). Should you butt heads again you have kept a record of all the events!!!

Great solid advice!!! I'm glad you brought up those evaluation forms because there were things made up by the "mean girls", (once I spoke up about things I didn't appreciate) that were contradictory with prior evaluations. They must have forgotten all of the "great" things that were said about me. All of a sudden out of nowhere, it was said she doesn't take initiative or take the lead when on all evaluation forms it stated she was great at doing those very same things! Ooop 🫣🤭🤦🏽♀️ The thing about preceptors is that there aren't quality vet nurses. I had about 5 different people, and one of them was still in a residency herself. Not sure why they promise these things and make it seem like you will have all of this support and be well supported because you don't. It's all lies and smoke screens. That's why people leave and don't stay. These hospitals don't care about producing quality nurses. The bottom line for them is to hire as many as they can because they know they are going to lose about half of those nurses and hopefully it will even out. It's sad...nursing is overrated, and even if this is truly your passion it's a great possibility that many won't feel the same once they've had their own experiences.
