Sikhism is so beautiful. Our guru came only 551 years ago not to denounce Islam or Hinduism but to remind us of the messages of that one light that both teach us about but has been lost over thousands of years. Sikhism helps us gets back to the basics of recognizing the light within all of us. It’s only through being a Sikh that I can totally appreciate Islam and Hinduism. I fall in love with Sikhi everyday thanks to your channel and its affirming what my heart and soul always felt. I only pray that I am blessed to develop the discipline to connect with my inner self. Thank you 🙏🏼 you are doing great Seva to human kind in enlightening us with the teaching of gurbani in English… it’s much needed, but MOST needed for us Sikhs. The Sikhi isn’t about the five “K”’s and Sikhs most of all need to understand that. When our love for Sikhi comes from within, all else will naturally follow. Thank You again. May God bless you to continue doing this wonderful work that you’re doing 🙏🏼

your channel is SO needed. As a 45 yr old, born in the US, I suffered much, cut my hair and then was outside of any 'group', It affected my self-worth & image for YRS! And b/c I wasn't fluent in Punjabi, couldn't be in enriched by this wisdom. So, I was spiritually barren when young, and it stunted my growth. You have a true supporter, god bless and Jo Bole So Nihal!

Ha! Indeed the story of most of us GenX’ers who are sons and daughters of Indian immigrants to North America. Neither here nor there. In a way, it’s a blessing, because you are a blank slate and can absorb these teachings more readily, rather than ‘undoing’ pre-existing beliefs

30:30 I lost a three year old that I thought was mine biologically and turned out not to be due to the lies and machinations of her mother. It's easily the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. Thank god I had a Sikhi education when I was going through it or I'm not sure I would have come out the other side. It will never not hurt, but as long as she remains safe and healthy I've resigned myself to that being what's important, not my feelings about my relationship with her.

I love that Sikhi attempts to reconcile some of our natural attachments as useful and necessary as long as we maintain the proper perspective on them. Determining when to accept and when to fight is a large part of the work, I think.

36:30 This is partially what keeps me from Sangat. I've been hurt many times by group dynamics and especially since I don't speak Punjabi it keeps me from sangat. I think growing up in a white family with no opportunity to learn Gurmukhi is going to be my greatest regret this lifetime. I'm so close, I hope to be born into a Sikh family in a cycle soon if I am worthy.

I'm not punjabi either. I know exactly what you feel, I've experienced a few things that made me feel unwelcome, even in the gurdwara. The punjabi sikhs are wrapped up in identity, I dont want to be a punjabi. I dont care excessively for indian food, I dont care about punjabi issues or politics simply for the reason they are punjab. I'm happy that i don't consider the area some lost/stolen homeland. The internet is full of young sikh boys being radicalised and brought into little sub groups of sikhi. You don't have to be born a sikh. The sggs is our way out. Ignore the other texts, the modern martyrs, the sub groups. I have also struggled with the identity. But have a close look at the majority of people born into a sikh household and ask if they really are any different.
@marnmeli2 жыл бұрын
this is maybe a good time to ask .. Am I willing to give my head? Can I personally let go of who I/ME is and just be .. ONE? Can I give my head? Certainly in terms of history this Punjab idea and identity is and has protected and preserved WAHEGURU therefore having so many die for this cause out of respect for their sacrifices sure there should be pride.. Do not be discouraged that you’re not able to contribute to certain discussions or lend passion to things that aren’t authentic to you.. rather enjoy identifying when is this proud to preserve the unifying language/message of Guru/waheguru and even is it an I/ME POSTURING… good luck and you were born into what perfect place you needed you will be an example to those who would otherwise never be exposed to such a gift as you have given. i apologize if i convey anything other than a validation of your belonging as you are.

Hey veerji, great content, been following for a while now. You really need to make a video on just the “go with the flow of life” idea you often bring up. Because it seems like so much of sikhi goes against the (maya controlled) grain. Aka hey man, you don’t drink, why not? Go with the flow, man have a beer etc. you touch on this idea a bit. But it’s really complex. You say you find the discernment within - the Force will arise within you when to push back, etc. I get that. This is the most complex topic. I also get that there is no good and bad - but in the Sikh gurdwara context - our agreed upon institutional frameworks - there is an idea of ideal and not ideal.. hmm

What ever happening how you behave, how u live ur life, how happy you are, how sad you are, how arrogant, how u look at your life, is that all not the supreme god's will ?? What ever happening , suffering, happiness is that all not his will. What we try to understand that we need to give ourselves to the god and understand that we are momentarily wave of this huge ocean. But giving ourselves to god is that also not god's will. ??

But there is a thing called, "Prevention". When you say Life is going to do what it's going to do, Isn't there a prevention method to use? For example, let's say, I decide to make a friend, but I first learn about that person he or she how that person is, is that person good or evil. If it's evil, then I would not make him or her my friend then you prevented mental negativity which involves life. It's just sometimes I think of these things that sometimes we make decisions without thinking and then we need to face consequences.
