In case anyone is still confused (or just flat out forgot), Relinquished has a reflect effect. Any battle damage received by Relinquished in an effort to get rid of it is reflected back to the opponent as effect damage. AND EVEN THEN Relinquished would just stay on the field because a monster equipped to it would be destroyed in its place.

Attack with Utopia, use its effect to negate its own attack, activate Double or Nothing 9ff that negation to double Utopia's atk to 10k. Swing into bird for game.

I mean it's *RIGHT THERE* EDIT: for those who don't quite understand what exactly happened in this clip, Relinquished has a lot of effects but the one we should pay attention to is: "While equipped with that monster, any battle damage you take from battles involving this card inflicts equal effect damage to your opponent." For comparison, Sonic Bird's WHOLE EFFECT is: "When this card is Normal or Flip Summoned: You can add 1 Ritual Spell from your Deck to your hand." So just attack the bird and they don't lose like that

Checks out. I was up against someone with like 2 Dark Requiem Xyz Dragons and 2 Dark Rebellions along with a Phantom Knights of Break Sword. One Requiem had 7000 ATK, the other had a 5500. They were out of xyz material. Despite having way more lifepoints than my opponent (who was at 1900), I was backed into a corner. I had a one more plan, my last, desperate attempt to grasp hope… I allowed them to destroy my Box of Friends thereby providing me with Doll Monsters Miss Mädchen and Bear-Bear before playing Waboku, my last line of defense. I was able to survive the enemy’s onslaught. My turn came and, absolutely nerve-wracked, I acted. I played the Monster Reborn already in my hand to summon back my Gem-Knight Sapphire. With three level 4 monsters on my field, I performed an Xyz summon and brought it out… Number 69: Heraldry Crest. As it it hit the field, it negated the already pointless effects of all other Xyz monsters on the field. That wasn’t the fun part. Not by a long shot. Heraldry Crest could steal the name and effect of one Xyz monster on the field until the end of the turn. This was it. I copied the mighty Dark Requiem. And that’s when I realized Dark Requiem can only use it’s effects when it has Dark Rebellion as Xyz material. I copied the wrong monster. I did not get the chance to try again. I lost soon after. Read cards, folks.

Yeah I always recommend new players to Yu-Gi-Oh to just skim the card and look for relevant words such as summon, search, battle, graveyard and finally destroy. Skim Relinquish's text to see the "battle" and then read the sentence pertaining to that. It's what allowed me to get caught up in the game after a break and facing Tri-Brigades.

As someone who made Volcanic burn deck i know that the iliteracy is even worse when "very dangerous" monster is not on the field. My main win condition is to just dump 3 volcanic counters into gy (volcanic counter banishes itself from gy to deal the same amount of damage as you received, but it stacks so every counter deals the same dmg), and pray that enemy wont banish them and activate them with strongest monster and kill himself(i cant choose to not use the effect). 9 of 10 players dont read and just attack my face with 5k atak monsters and get 10-15k dmg back. Of course deck have other distruptions/burn cards so the enemy is scarred to play or to prevent from activating the volcanic counter to early, so the amount of burn dmg needed from counters isnt always 8k, but the fact that nobody ever wonders why im trying to get these counters to gy is staggering.

Indeed, i'm using utopia deck to gold 2 now and i'm sure bring 2 utopia is the best choice. After you double utopia monster with that xyz monster (i forgot that xyz monster name), you can only attack monster. So with OG utopia with cancel attack, you can double the attack again with "double of nothing" and boom your attack become 10,000 (not included ZW monster that can attached to utopia)

This reminds me many same style moments, but I will share the most recent one. XYZ tour in Master Duel, opponent uses the loaner Cipher deck. I had my own Galaxy-Eyes, in which I also run Draglubion and Heart-eartH. The latter's basic effects are that can't be destroyed by battle and that it reflects any battle damage to the opponent, while having 0 ATK. Pretty neat. After I summoned it AND attacked with my boi, next turn, opponent eventually brings out Neo Cipher, in order to steal my XYZs (I had another other 2 out) and he did. All but Heart-eartH. I was like "you kiddin' me, right?". You can guess how he lost in one single attack.

The amount of players who have tapped out all their mana to cast a spell targeting one of my creatures with Ward 2* is insane *Ward auto counters every opponent spell that targets the creature unless the opponent pays a specific cost, an additional 2 mana in this case

Some japanese players do be like that, today in amakudari's stream there's one japanese eldlich player who doesn't understand how skill drain works and thought Ra the immortal phoenix still had its protection on, so this dude just kept re-summonning the golden boi to stall out the game and eventually decked himself out kekw

lul, the only protections that enable defying THE SKILL DRAIN are Trap Immunity and Card Eff Immunity, and because Rulings Jank, the card has to be on the board before the Skill Drain resolves, otherwise it negates them as they arrive

The funniest part is if he had utopia from double utopia he could have won by using doubles effect with double or nothing swinging at sonic bird. They had a chance to win but didn’t.

Assuming that the guy didnt have another Utopia to summon to make use of double or nothing and attack sonic bird there wasnt really anything else he could do to win this. Again though making a lot of assumptions on the guy's extra deck

He could have summoned ultimate leo using double's effect. Search for a ZW twin pegasus saber and use Leo's 2nd effect to permanently negate relinquished's effect and half his attack

I learned this the hard way as well, I power pond fusion chaos ancient gear giant and then attacked it while it had 0, so I ended up drawing the game because I did 9000 damage to both players.

i once dueled someone using a kaiju mill strat, while i was using a nurse burn deck, as a backup they tried upping the power of one of their own kaiju to get me low enough that d.d dynamite could kill …but they attacked into my muscle medic, who's effect is that any damage from battles involving this card is turned into life point gain long story short i ended up with 10k+ life points, meaning they couldn't burn me to death before i burnt them to death, simply because they didn't read my cards effect

As a kaiju player, if I'm understanding the relinquished support correctly, the relinquished guy could have won sooner. Use golden eyes to equip the kaiju, tribute the other xyz for the second thunder king, equip it by relinquished itself. Giving relinquished 6600. 300 more. But then we wouldn't have gotten this gem

I used to take advantage of this fact in Duel Links. Succ the set monster with relinquished (counts as 0 atk) and then slam into enemy’s monster

Fun fact: Recital Starling can also do this if summoned properly. That's why you never give its attack buff to itself unless you misclick.
