I want to tell historical facts here: French colonialisme wasn't friendly to Natives, it was a relation of domination. But I don't want to juge them*. Still, the ones called 'Coureurs des Bois' (wood's forerunners (fur runners)), beside their european education, was not only forced to cooperate with Natives to learn the particularites of the land and hunt technics, but ended to truly embrace the Natives lores. A new culture had rise: the French Canadians. This album referes to them, our brave ancestors, and not the colonialism that is responsible for so many dramas and atrocities. The particularity of Quebec is that the French-Canadians never had could decided for themselves. We lacked courage after, during the referendums. But celebrating our ancestors is a good thing. Pierre-Esprit Radisson et Pierre Le Moyne, sieur d’Iberville (born in Nouvelle-France, said Captain Winter because he learn with Natives how to turn the cold climate to his own advantage) are also great figures to honnor. *I don't want to judge them because I'm not a fucking woke thinking that only my generation can save the world by demonizing hystory.

They can't rewrite history because they never developed a writing system. The only writings we have are those of the first Europeans. There are several different sources and we know what was the psychology of the classes of that time (priest, peasant or explorer). French colonialism was mostly about furs and they didn't need to invade the land with people. There were alliances between the Hurons against their Iroquois enemies, which engendered Huronia: territory of commercial partnership between French and natives, which was eradicated by the Iroquois a few decades later. It was especially when the British arrived and wanted to take over the land that things got worse. The British were 100 years ahead of the rest of the world. When the other great powers caught up, they too committed atrocities in the name of their culture. If the French had wanted the land like the British, I don't think they would have done better and probably wouldn't have had more pangs of conscience. But this is not what happened and we must distinguish the French-Canadian people from the European authorities. The proof that the peoples mingled freely is the Métis community that still exists, especially on the prairies. The French-Canadians were also badly treated by the British, we were almost assimilated too with Lord Durham. The WASP also deported the Acadian tho. But the uprising of the 13 British colonies (which will become the USA) scared the British who could not support two revolts simultaneously, lightened their program and allowed us to keep the Catholic religion and the French language. An important Quebec politician also supported Louis Riel's revolt when it was to their great disadvantage against the Federals. The regime of reserves and pensions was done under the British regime. Robert bourassa did the Paix des Braves. Who could have emerged victorious against the British power? It is obviously necessary to set the record straight on their history, which has mostly been buried: we were talking about 'formerly powerful' nations. Only few people know the history of Canada, even Canadians. Federal continue propaganda about Canada (as the movie about John A. McDonald...) by doing a masquerade to Natives. Above all, we must finally restore their dignity by treating them as humans. But that's not on me: it's all federal hypocrisy. @@doumgreg Besides, Quebec as Canada will be merged by massive immigration and I don't think the “French-Canadian” roots will survive. It is above all a question of climate: the North will warm up and ultimately Canada will have a new, very long border to defend.
