I was 7 year old when we visited the jetty in 1978 and we got 97 blue swimmer crabs in a couple of hours with a just few crab nets. Was the one of the most amazing things I had seen up till that time. Fed the whole caravan park where we were staying. Go to gaol for that now but eh, I was 7.

I grew up in busso, I like to target squid at night off the jetty. You rarely go home empty handed! The jetty was a great place to be at night as a teenager, drinking beers and playing up. Nobody could tell us off out there. There was a local dolphin who used to show up hoping for a free fish, I jumped in to swim with him a few times. Good memories.

Not to be technical, but the longest jetty in the southern hemisphere is at Lucinda, QLD. Busselton jetty is the longest "Timber piled" jetty in the southern hemisphere. "It is the longest jetty (wharf) in the southern hemisphere at 5.8Km in length, extending from the Lucinda bulk terminal out to water deep enough for the largest ships in the raw sugar trade."

what to cook ? it has a chequered past, careful what you wish for! It got badly wrecked in a cyclone many years back & local, state & federal govts would NOT contribute towards the costs of replacing a lot of the damaged sections. Not that long ago fishermen (kids) lit a fire out the end (as they do) and caught the platform on fire doing huge amount of damage. A lot of the soft corals below that hadn’t seen direct sunlight in 150 years died off. The Jetty was saved by public donations / fundraisers to restore it after the cyclone, then again after the fire. It’s a mega icon tourism draw card with the underwater observatory at the end. Yet no one wants to contribute to the ongoing maintenance / repair costs. NSW you too could have these problems. 😂😂
