I live in the UK and have seen firsthand how many marriages fall apart because, from day one, some families tell the groom he should be grateful to them for bringing him here. They don’t realize they’re hurting his pride, even though they needed him for their daughter. Similarly, some women believe that by bringing a man to a foreign country, they’ve bought him as a servant who must simply obey. Thankfully, I came here on my own as a doctor, earned my citizenship, and married here. I noticed similar tendencies in my in-laws, but they couldn’t say a word because I built my life independently.

I live in Canada and have witnessed such scenarios where parents try to secure their future and need a daughter in law from Pakistan to serve them in their old age put practically it does not work that way and they ruin the life of their kids. Secondly, I have also witnessed the parents in UK, bringing the bridegroom for their daughter from Pakistan and then taunting them about their modest background and the guy eventually decided to part ways, once he got settled.
