Taking the ball very early on the rise and striking the ball flat and with pace, Kalinskaya was able to take time away from Iga Swiatek and forced her into errors. She is now into her first WTA 1000 final and will be favored to take home the title tomorrow.

Very happy Kalinskaya ♥️🙂 saw her play for the first time last month against Sloane Stephens in Melbourne and wow what a match that was!!!!!?!?!!!! Now she gone on to beat Ostapenko, Guaff and Iga in quick succession to get into her first ever final 😳🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌♥️🌄

I knew beforehand that Anna could pose problems for Swiatek because of her taking the ball early and hitting it flat with pace on the fast court in Dubai but I thought Iga is still likely to win. Anna deserves to win the title having beaten 3 of the top 10 players in the draw.

what a contrast in responses. Anna was so humble and complimentary about her opponent .Iga moaned about tiredness and was choking when speaking about Kalinskaya. The fact is anna spanked Iga with a tactical masterclass in moving her opponent to the point of submission.

Indeed, Iga should have had complimented Kalinskaya on her win, but maybe she was still finding it hard to process what Kalinskaya did to her, especially since she was such a big favorite in this match with 85% probability of winning and she was expected to win the Desert double.

Iga is usually not gracious in defeat. She loses to Elena or Jelena and there is always something wrong with her. It's ultimately tarnishing her reputation and ultimate likeability.

Smashing performance from Anna resulting in a well-deserved win over the world #1. I don't like the way that Iga try's to slow down the server by holding her racket up. She does this a lot. Umpires should tell her to stop it.

This young player Kalinskaya could be the REAL DEAL! Has the goods and the game to be a GS champion and dominate the game for a while! A la Serena, Steffi, & chrissy. She doesn't seem like other players that are hyped but show little results or consistency!! (Ons, Sakkari, Raducaanu) just to name a few!

Thanks for commenting. Remains to be seen whether she can keep up this level of play, but certainly Anna has the game to pose a challenge to top 10 players when she is healthy. Hope she stays free of injuries as that is what is keeping her from fulfilling her potential.

What happened to match point? Oh well, great match by Anna. It seems that the way to beat Iga is by hitting the ball hard and flat. Rybakina hits like Anna, and she has a winning record against Iga.

Thanks for commenting. I'm also an Iga fan but respectfully I will have to say I don't think Iga is tired based on her previous matches where she won very easily. It was just that this is the first time she had played vs Kalinskaya and Kalinskaya's game is best suited for the fast courts of Dubai. I am confident though that Swiatek will win against Kalinskaya the next time they will meet, especially on clay courts.
