Damn, its kind of a toss up. The auras and ki blasts look better on the Playstation, but the Saturn version has more going on in the backgrounds and the explosions are way more detailed with dust flying up and stuff. When ssj3 Goku spin around fat Buu and threw him, he bounced a couple times before stopping on the playstation as well. idk, I guess I'd still go with the Saturn version though

Personally prefer the Saturn version, you only compared the meteo attacks but the fighting itself is alot better in the saturn, sure the psx feels a bit faster but it's also a lot glitchier, the vanashing move doesn't have the actual vanashing the characters simply glitch out, same for the back, forward+attack that knocks the opponent accorss the screen, if you stand anywhere but right in front of your opponent the characters will glitch out.

PS1 = Better animations, much more fluid, better effects too. Saturn = Better sounds, better environment. There are many good concepts also. Nappa sending Saibaimen? That's just genius. I think both are good, in different ways.

@@nandasyahputra7468 look at ss teen gohan hitting fat buu with that kame hame ha. you can barely hear him yell or hear the music on playstation, the sound is light years ahead on saturn surprisingly. even when you charge ki you can barely hear it on ps1. PS1 is also easier to see what direction to counter in as well but has the better visual effects. I own both since 1999 and I play it on saturn exclusively still 21 years later.

Both versions have their strong points and weak points. PSX version clearly handles 3D better than Saturn. But hands down on the Saturn version. Just look at the absolute impact feel the Mystic Gohan attack has on the Saturn. On the PSX it's all right. But does not really give off anything out of the ordinary. Now lets look at the same attack on the Saturn version: camera is dynamic, shakes around to give the idea of how strong the blows are. Sound effects when the hits are made also help tremendously in making a strong impact. Saturn might indeed be inferior in terms of raw 3D power. We could easily see that with the Spirit Bomb attack. But the animations are far superior on the Saturn, and that easily takes the cake for me.

not to mention the ps1 version is a lot easier. You can literally see the after images when being attacked making it a no brainer in which direction to counter every time. I like the saturn version much more and always have. I got the ps1 version after i already owned the saturn version and beat it once or twice and never touched it again. This was the top dbz game until tenkaichi 3 came out and with all its mods it still holds the crown. Xenoverse 2 is only good for having the 3 characters on screen at once but i never felt fullfilled playing it and actually felt dbz legends was done better for its time.

Actually Saturn was technically more powerful than the PS1 at handling both 2-D and 3-D.

Yeah but look at great saiyaman power up it looks horrible on ss, but look at the ps1 power up. The energy flying out the ground into the sky circling around him as the camera shakes. And look at ssj2 gohan power up on saturn....he has a yellow dome around him. On ps1 he has the blue aura that turns into a blue dome then fires his wave directly into the camera the same way he did on the show. The wave is yellow on Saturn and puny.

@@jokkergar yes a lot of the attacks look inferior on Saturn. Only edge i give Saturn is the fighting speed is faster and there are more destructible items in the background. I own the Saturn version on my tablet with a emulator and use a ps4 controller with it. I actually prefer the ps1 version because the saturn version seems TOO fast..almost like its just all over the place.

rest assured that stereo sound is coming from the saturn version. that scene on ps1 sounds like it is transmitted from a tin can. i will say that the ki effect is better on ps1 but the lack of good sound really kills any impact.

@@cathyas3749 Except for some special attacks. Nappa using a saibaman as his special attack is just stupid, he has way better attack moves than that, and Bandai foolishly have him using a saibaman, who is even weaker than Chiaotzu.

It seems that in some attacks the programmers went cheap for instance, Great Saiyaman's ki burst on the kame hame ha. On the other hand I think that they didn't use transparency fx on Saturn to avoid messing with the sprite priority. Also: there's something off with Saturn's sprite resolution, they seem scaled to fit as it could like Castlevania NITM.

I will hand it to the Saturn because it has shorter animations and more details to the battlefield. The PS1 has nicer graphics but the animations take to long and there are not enough battlefield details which can make the game look so empty (like an early 3d fighter like the first Tekken)

In Saturn version Vegeta has no Final Flash attack in PlayStation there is final flash attack even he is not in super saiyajin state in versus mode

The only thing the PlayStation has on the Saturn version is the energy attacks and auras, due to hardware limitations. The Saturn has actual objects on the field, and suprisingly, better 3-D appearances of the 2-D sprites.

SaiyanZero A lot of them used colored pages of the manga as a base, not the anime. And a lot of attacks are different colors in the colored pages. It can be a little inconsistent between blue and yellow in the manga's colored pages though.

For real, it takes away the pleasure of actually appreciating these older games. Overall as a game I think Saturn version has more pros for me......as far as the actual finishers.....both have things they do better than the other depending on the move.

The problem is that this video shows only special moves. Some of them look better on psx, others on Saturn. But Saturn puts more elements on stage, like trees you can destroy, etc in addition to a way faster and fluid gameplay that you can check y other fullgameplay videos.

Only owning the PS version i prefer the PS version even on the alternate moves majority of them are better on the PS. Saturn does have better sound effects and environments, might have to pick this up if i find it for cheap on the Saturn.

i think the special attacks look better in the Sega version. What is better about the PS1 is the spirit bomb and Android 19 absorption, it had better delivery. But in gameplay, Sega wins easily, it is fast paced too.

The moves look a bit better on the psx, but the normal fighting is pretty glitchy, you don't even have a proper vanishing animation for the counters your character simply glitches out.

Raptros Pt​ you mean no vanishing animation on saturn or ps1 ? Ps1 kind of has an "after image" type effect when u teleport for counters. Saturn doesn't

That's the other way around there. That's no after image on the psx, it's glitching out, if you pay attention you get the actual teleport effect on the saturn when you counter.

Hands down the best dragon ball game of the 90's. Not for everyone tho. This game is the most loyal to the source material and the work in the sprites is pretty much aaa tier. Sadly we deserved better of a 2d fighter but finalbout, and supper battle 22 / shin butoden were essentially trash.

I'll put this in a simple way. Saturn version: Great presentation, nice graphics, terrible payoff and impact. And while the attacks come out faster, faster isn't always better. Playstation version: Decent presentation, slow but deliberately built pace, TREMENDOUS payoff and impact. Too simple? Then think on this. This is Dragon Ball Z. Explosions can come out with a huge bang wholesale that makes Michael Bay look like a ranked amateur. There's a bunch of characters who can blow a good chunk off the planet or just about anywhere with a big attack and when you see those attacks come off like that, you see AND feel the impact. This is the biggest factor that puts the Playstation version ahead of the Saturn. A lot of the Meteo Attacks on the Saturn make the recipients of the attack just seem to either keel over or just knocked flat on their ass with minimum payoff. The Playstation version deliviers on the explosiveness of the attacks and that's what you wanna see. You don't wanna knock your opponent on his ass, you wanna take him out for real, and blow the living @#$%! out of him as you send him flying to the other side of the world. On top of that, I think that the pacing the PS version takes with the attacks is another thing that works in its favor, with the buildup and expectations that come to you as you see some of the bigger attacks unfold. SSJ2 Gohan's Super Kamehameha just looks great in there, especially on that angle where you see a faceful of that energy come out to you on the screen before it comes ahead to blow your opponent away. Fantastic. On the Saturn, the presentation at the beginning of each attack is cool and nice, but the way they end makes them fall short, making them feel less powerful than they're supposed to be. The quick pace of it all doesn't work too much either, because then the suddeness of the attack being released doesn't build the same level of excitement you can expect on all the memorable attacks, flurries and strikes we've come to love over the years. If y'all dig that, I'm happy for you. But don't forget how it's supposed to be done when you have watched the source material for years.

I owned both and saturn is superior in both graphics and framerate. ps1 version is a total downgrade, probably for the same reason why DBZ battle 22 is slow and looks like crap on PS1 compared to saturn's Shin Butoden. lol really.. the saturn got tons of extra sprites being drawn, from those around goku when he does the kamehameha to the trees and extra clouds that are non existent on ps1, or the lightning effects on namek which this video doesn't show but are also absent on ps1, not to mention the framerate is higher on the saturn, ps1 struggles with anything that requires tons of sprites to be displayed on screen. Saturn wins hands down, and yes I owned both versions, ps1 is a total downgrade, looks worse and plays worse.
