Oja Ndi Igbo is a musical Instrument that is blown with the Mouth. It is among other Mouth blown musical instruments like Clarinet, Saxophone, etc.............Any gender Male or Female (Man or Woman ) can "blow" those instruments for production of a Melody.........In Igbo land most of the time Oja is used as part of Masquerade Activity which Women in Igbo land are forbidden to participate in (NOT allowed). Men therefore blow the Oja most of the time............read this carefully.............That DOES NOT mean Women are forbidden to blow the Oja as part of other NON-Masquerade Activity like Dance Melody, in the case here. Oja is part of this Dance Melody as Clarinets, Saxophones etc. are to ANY Music production. Yes Women blow Mouth Musical Instruments like Clarinets, Saxophones etc. It is like a Male Nurse or Male Mid-Wife..........generally Women do those work. That DOES NOT mean that Men are FORBIDDEN to work as Nurses or take the position of a Mid-Wife ( working with Doctors to help in baby delivery) .

Where is the acrobatics? This is a washout. Teach the real thing or something close enough or just leave it alone. The Oja sound got me though.
@kelikel25 жыл бұрын
That's why it's up to ppl who grew up in culture to teach the overseas born igbo from a young age... Fortunately we have igbo women like Amazing Ijeoma who are intentional and teach their charge culture via dance... They won't learn from attending the odd cultural show... They need dedicated teaching..
@justinben42855 жыл бұрын
Acrobatics make atologwu super. Where is acrobat. It's foreign atologwu ok . Accepted
@ebeleobianyo37295 жыл бұрын
Dancing is more of traditional women dance steps and not the agile atilogwu dance which is More acrobatic.

Women blow Saxophone which is more like Oja. Generally Men blow Oja BUT Women are NOT forbidden to blow Oja. Like I told one Commenter already, it is like a Man working as a Nurse or Midwife.............. Masquerade is Forbidden for Women. Women cannot even come out and watch it much less get close to it.
