South East governors we are waiting for the results of our economic summit you guys held we must see something happening NOW 👀
@LabaraNdonia3 ай бұрын
Good question. The problem is Gov Otti and to some extent Gov Mbah are the only sensible of the SE governors. Soludo should know better, but he is a complete disaster by the looks of it. given what happened to Ibo assets before, at least, what Ibos should do with Port Harcourt should be a subject for discussion to gather opinions and chart the way forward. Right now, there is no guidance on the subject both theoretical and otherwise. As a result, Ibo business people are forced to make their own individual decisions and it is left for platforms like this to discuss the risks. It seems clear from the comments that Ibos need to return to Port Harcourt and use its port as was intended by the founders. At the same time Ibos must invest with caution given the antecedents. In other words while Ibo businesses should use Port Harcourt, effort should be intensified to create the Azumini Port Complex as backup/replacement. Sadly economic thinking among Ibos is at its lowest ebb since the demise of Pius Okigbo and a few others. Even Jaja of Opobo was more knowledgeable about economics than our present leaders. For example, when Jaja sensed that European trade was shifting from slaves to commodities, he quickly left Bonny, the old slave port and founded Opobo on the mouth of Imo River to control trade with the Ibo interior in the 1860s. Very clever! Today, the focus of trade is moving from Lagos which is liked to Europe, the old imperial centre to West/central Africa which should be linked to Port Harcourt /Azumini and Asia, the future economic, military and political powerhouse. But our SE governors do not see this trend and they fail to capitalize on the desire of Ibos to leave Lagos after the demolition of their properties to facilitate this eastward shift. Thus instead of a concerted effort to develop the Azumini Port Complex, they are building conference centres. * I hear they have stopped teaching history in Nigeria, does that include economic history too?

1. I thought Gov Alex Otti said he was building a seaport in Azumini area. What happened to that? It seems that he has now been distracted by the usual culprits and instead of continuing the seaport idea, he is now purportedly building yet another airport when his state is surrounded by airports. 2. Port Harcourt was created from scratch by the British to perform the same role as Lagos in the west. What happened during the war and after was a blatant violation of Ibo rights which went unchallenged. Today Ibos should revamp and use the port but install legal-rational and physical safeguards to protect their assets regardless of whether Ikwerres are Ibos or not.

@@IGBOAREATV You have raised an interesting point well beyond the scope of this podcast. In my view Ibeto Group has reached a state where it should be floated as a public company with him holding majority shares. Same as Innoson, Air Peace etc. in order to move away from the sole trader model, divorce ownership from control and ensure the long-term survivability of Ibo businesses. Failure to do this has resulted in the death of big Ibo brands with their owners e.g. Ekene Dili Chukwu, Bolingo Hotels etc. So if creating a company and selling shares to the likes of Anyim is not a bad idea to raise capital to revamp the company. *BTW Incidentally, this is why many people are totally disappointed with Soludo and his lacklustre regime in Anambra State.
